Imperial dragons are known for their striking visage. Dramatic smoke and crackle markings, shimmery or metallic scales, and imposing manes. A nest of imperial dragons can snowblind an unprepared spectator.

But not all imperials are born that way.

Across the flights, over the years, a pattern emerged that dismayed the beauty standards set by the original imperials, the children of Light: Simple, unassuming, uniform - a patterning that would almost have beauty in its understatement but for the startling, incongruous markings on the face and claws, like a besmirching mask.

In many flights, these dragons are politely averred from positions of prestige or power in the imperial hierarchy by dragons with shinier scales or more intricate markings. They tend to find themselves on low-level battling squads, roaming the midlands for small trinkets and tokens to bring back to their clan. Many of these dragons were content. But some longed for a home, and a comforting hierarchy to perch atop.

One day, a close-knit friend group of pointed dragons were exploring the Thunderhead Savannah when they came across a group of feliforms, the native sphinxes, but one was different:

The pointed dragons murmured amongst themselves. Though the sphinx rose no higher than their big toe, it nuzzled up to their leader, Toncen, making a strange vibrating noise. Toncen noted their similarities and felt a strange twinge, a calling. He announced that the sphinxes must be devotees, and the pointed dragons destined to be their rulers.

"Do you want to take the sphinx back to our den?" asked his mate, Cerpeti.

"No," he replied. "We'll bring the clan to them."

Thus, the pointed dragons settled in the Thunderhead Savannah among the sphinxes, who quickly welcomed the strange, large cats and their gifts of meat scraps. Toncen and Cerpeti established a standard that privileged the pointed, the stark, and the plain, in their own image. These small clans soon spread throughout the lands, wherever feliforms, and their strange likeness, could be found.

In keeping with imperial culture, Toncen and Cerpeti have decreed that only dragons with the most striking markings and the most fitting lineage can be considered part of the Royal Minks, the ruling clade of the Minks. The Royal Minks are those who descend from the most pointed of lineages: those made in Toncen and Cerpeti's image. Royal Lineage Royal Minks must have one parent that is colorpoint (light XX, dark Y) and one parent that is karpati (dark XX, light Y). They cannot be gened or scattered. Breeding pairs that can produce Royal Minks are called Ancestor Pairs.

Please also feel free to submit your own pedigree recommendation! I test all color combinations for the highest homogeneity in primary and secondary genes - that is, to lower the contrast between the additional colors introduced by the fade/blend or iridescent/shimmer genes as much as possible. But I did not test all possible combinations! If you want to submit your own pedigree (coloring) for consideration, please feel free :) If you have a dragon of a different breed that fits this lore and coloring, please feel free to post it for consideration! I would also very much welcome a collaborator and/or steward on the subspecies if anyone is interested! I'd especially love help making this thread pretty and creating badges! I'm not that artistically inclined :) [emoji=cat 1 size=1] Post your dragon to register it to the mink database - gened/scattered OK, except for Royal Minks. [emoji=cat 2 size=1] Post Mink hatchlings for sale; and/or register a Royal Ancestor breeding pair (colorpoint x karpati). [emoji=cat 3 size=1] Submit Variant patternings, potential expansion of the species, or new pedigrees (colors) for consideration! I'd love to hear what would make this subspecies more interesting! More lore? More examples of pedigree coloring? Let me know!

@Rakizna

Thank you so much for the compliment!! I am obsessed with them... cat dragons.....

And wahh very kind of you to offer to work on badges! I don't have any ideas besides the general visual of the points patterning and maybe a badge for "Imperial Mink" and "Royal Mink"? Feel free to use the scries of any of the breeds I've made, or of my pair~! And if you don't get to it absolutely no worries :)
