Imperial dragons are known for their striking visage. Dramatic smoke and crackle markings, shimmery or metallic scales, and imposing manes. A nest of imperial dragons can snowblind an unprepared spectator.

But not all imperials are born that way.

Across the flights, over the years, a pattern emerged that dismayed the beauty standards set by the original imperials, the children of Light: Simple, unassuming, uniform - a patterning that would almost have beauty in its understatement but for the startling, incongruous markings on the face and claws, like a besmirching mask.

In many flights, these dragons are politely averred from positions of prestige or power in the imperial hierarchy by dragons with shinier scales or more intricate markings. They tend to find themselves on low-level battling squads, roaming the midlands for small trinkets and tokens to bring back to their clan. Many of these dragons were content. But some longed for a home, and a comforting hierarchy to perch atop.

Though Minks are an imperial subspecies, certain Obelisk dragons are also accepted - make up your lore for how your Obelisk found its way to these clades!

Acceptable Genes

Minks have only two acceptable primary and secondary genes, and they must be paired. All minks have the Points tertiary gene.

Acceptable Coloring

Minks are an XXY subspecies. Every mink will have XXY colors that contrast; if the XX is light, the Y must be dark (Colorpoint); if the XX is dark, the Y must be light (Karpati). The higher the contrast between the two colors, the more prestigious the dragon. Color combinations are further categorized by pedigree, though an exact match with pedigree coloring is not required for general mink registry.

The Royal Minks are those who descend from the most pointed of lineages: those made in Toncen and Cerpeti's image.

Royal Lineage
Royal Minks must have one parent that is colorpoint (light XX, dark Y) and one parent that is karpati (dark XX, light Y). They cannot be gened or scattered.

Breeding pairs that can produce Royal Minks are called Ancestor Pairs.

I test all color combinations for the highest homogeneity in primary and secondary genes - that is, to lower the contrast between the additional colors introduced by the fade/blend or iridescent/shimmer genes as much as possible. But I did not test all possible combinations! If you want to submit your own pedigree (coloring) for consideration, please feel free :) If you have a dragon of a different breed that fits this lore and coloring, please feel free to post it for consideration! And wahh very kind of you to offer to work on badges! I don't have any ideas besides the general visual of the points patterning and maybe a badge for "Imperial Mink" and "Royal Mink"?
