I have always loved any that dealt with astronomy, astrology, and celestial bodies. The sun and moon are a big part of that and when I saw that my home flight had the Moonportal, I was instantly drawn to that location. I thought that there have to be dragons that guard this portal from anything that wanted to cross into the Sunbeam Ruins. Then I thought, well you can't just focus on one portal, you got to focus on both. Any dragon and any creature can leave through the Moonportal just as much as it can the Sunportal. So, there must be guardians for both portals. Thus I decided that this need to be a thing and must be shared with everyone. I know that I am not the first to have dragons revolve around the new portals, but, I have not seen anyone create guardians for them. They keep watch day and night to make sure that no unwanted guests come through. If the portal activates, those that are on guard will go on the defensive and put up a barrier around the portal so that the traveler can not get too far. Only the Guardians with runes can activate the portal, Guardians with veined scars can cast magic and the Guardians with a glittery underside are fighters. There are only two that stand guard at a time, but help is never far away. Sure the two portals link to one another but not only dragons can come through the portal. So Guardians were put in place to get the upper hand on any enemy that were to come through the portals All Portal Guardians have the stamina and will to stand for long periods of time and are very focused. They are not easily distracted nor are they ever in a relaxed state while on duty. For this reason Obelisks make the best Portal Guardians. This is due to their natural ability to be statuesque. This allows them to stand watch for longer periods of time without tiring out. Pearlcatchers, natives of the Sunbeam Ruins and Nocturnes, natives of the Tangled Wood, have also been tasked with guarding the portals. The reason some Portal Guardians bare vein markings is because those were once battle scars that were healed by the Lightweaver or Shadowbinder. This blessing leaves the scar looking less like a scar and more of a natural effect. Because of that, offspring of that dragon may be born with similar markings.
