These beasts became known for their aggressive tendencies, often having “attack first and ask questions later” attitudes with trespassers in their territory; however, they would later be known for their carefree, loving natures by those who were lucky enough to meet them. However, the ancient god would say that these beasts, the Helian, would only wake when it became necessary, when the land and its inhabitants began to be overcome by darkness, and as of yet, there was no darkness strong enough to will them to wake.

However, despite his best efforts, he found that he couldn’t get them to wake. Not even the Shade, who at the time was growing with intensity within the clay-maker’s clan’s territory, could wake them from their slumber. And it would not until long after the clay-maker’s passing, in fact, they would not wake until a hellish fire would break out upon the mountain in which they were left.[/columns]

As the sun rises, blue lanterns are placed to indicate light winds and fluffy clouds, a perfect time for young hatchlings to enjoy the weather and float among the clouds. Purple lanterns are placed between mid-day and the time that the sun begins to set. The lights indicate slightly unfavorable weather which may include mist, patches of rain and sleet, and occasional erratic winds. This weather is often favorable to the brave young Helian and the older drakes who do not favor what comes when the sun sets. During the time of the purple lanterns, dragons may find themselves calmly floating among the clouds one moment and then suddenly being at the mercy of the storm. It is when the sun sets and the darkness settles that the storm ramps up in intensity and the green lanterns are set in place. Here is where the thrill-seekers come out to take part in a special event of the festival, a race. This race requires dragons to fly from one end of the grounds to the other, a simple task for dragons floating among the clouds among the blue lanterns, but becomes a much more difficult and hazardous task when rain and hail are pelting drakes downwards and howling winds are pushing them this way and that. But the true danger is having to avoid the blistering lightning arcing across the sky. The race is not for the faint of heart, but any dragon able to complete the race is met with praise and recognition among their kin.
