Hatching will re-commence around 11:00 FR time!
Hey everyone! Last year I held a lore-based mass hatch for my first FR-nniversary! This unfortunately (or fortunately) coincided with the day of the Veilspun release, so it was continually getting buried under people screaming about their brand new Veilspuns (myself included!) I know people love to follow mass hatches, so I thought I'd get this thread up and running early!
I will be hatching TWO of each kind of egg (except Banescale) on November 12 because it will be my second FR-nniversary! Because it is a lore-based hatch, I will be periodically updating the thread with lore snippets as each egg is obtained. I currently have:

Unhatched Earth Egg
Dragon Eggs
A rough unhatched boulder of an egg. It is extremely heavy, and pebbles fall away every time it shakes. The hatchling within must be very strong.

Unhatched Nature Egg
Dragon Eggs
A fertile, earthen pod that has attracted a healthy colony of fireflies. It is bursting with ripe, healthy green leaves and looks about ready to bloom.

Introduction
The annual Nocturne hatch had just ended. Those eggs which had chosen to hatch had hatched, leaving the clan crawling with tiny baby Nocturnes everywhere. The eggs that had chosen to remain dormant were being gathered and placed into storage. Many clans valued them as possible Firstborns, and were sometimes willing to pay in treasure for the chance to have a clanmate intimately connected with a deity. Clan Aquaurora knew this, and so each clan member was sent out to search for eggs to store and hatchlings to protect.
Livewire piled two more eggs onto the cart. "For Stormcatcher's sake, why do the wild Nocturnes have to do this every single year?"
"You've got me," Clawrice said. "Although I think it should be 'Shadowbinder's sake', don't you?"
"Whatever," Livewire sighed. "Whoops, hold on, this one's hatching."
The three dragons waited patiently as the baby Nocturne wriggled out of its shell. It cleaned off its own egg goop, and immediately began half gliding, half hopping in the direction of the Tangled Wood.
Marquise shook her head as she added another egg to the cart. "Another wild one."
Livewire crumbled a pawful of empty shells into dust. "You'd think they'd at least have the decency to clean up after themselves instead of leaving this stupid Nocturne dust everywhere. We can't even brew with it."
"Hold on a second." Clawrice was hefting a pair of eggs, one in each claw. "I just had an idea. You remember that stupid thing we did a couple months ago for Aoide's birthday?"
"Uh huh. We almost got in big trouble for it, too." Livewire took the eggs from Clawrice and placed them firmly in the cart. "What about it?"
Marquise looked at her fellow Spiral, faceted eyes glinting. "Oh no. You aren't thinking what I'm thinking you're thinking, are you?"
Clawrice grinned as she grabbed two more eggs. "Two times the eggs, two times the fun. We'll have to start collecting now." She secreted them in one of her tool pouches instead of placing them in the cart.
Livewire groaned. "Here we go again..."

Unhatched Nocturne Egg
Dragon Eggs
A tiny Nocturne hatchling grows within. The thick, armored shell makes it unclear what elemental alignment it has taken.

There was a knock at the door of the treasury (the only cave in the clan that even had a door). Spiritus spluttered and nearly knocked his glasses off. "Can't you read the sign? It says 'By Appointment Only' for a reason!" He was carefully counting gems, a fiddly business and one he particularly hated being interrupted while doing.
There was no reply. The Skydancer fussed a little with his ruffled feathers, and glared at the pile of gems in front of him. He'd lost count anyway, so he may as well answer the door. He quickly swept the gems into a bag, stuffed them under the desk, and undid the large bronze latch. "What is it?"
No one was there. He looked up, sideways, and then down. A package lay on the doorstep, crudely wrapped. It was humming slightly.
Cautiously Spiritus picked it up and brought it in. He probed it with magic, and then with a stick. Nothing happened. Finally he opened it.
On the desk lay two eggs, both dormant. One was basically a rock--in fact the only reason he assumed it was an egg was because the other was definitely an egg--one of the strangely pulsating, purplish eggs of the Arcane flight.
The Skydanger frowned. He rewrapped the eggs and left them on the desk, locking the treasury door behind him. He headed straight for Aoide.
The Mirror was trying to organize the emergency food stocks once again. She sighed. "More dandelion puffs. Sometimes I wish Tidewrath would hunt somewhere other than those blasted ruins...oh, hello, Spiritus. Everything all right?"
"Did you order some eggs via courier?"
"I most certainly did not! We need to be saving our gems. Did you receive some?"
"Two. But the courier didn't stick around for payment. I have no idea where they came from."
Aoide frowned. "Ordinarily we'd be suspicious of unexpected packages. Still... they are eggs, after all..."
"Maybe someone else ordered them," suggested Spiritus.
The Mirror scoffed. "They had better not, unless they were paying with their own private funds."
"Perhaps the alchemy den?"
"They don't have that kind of budget."
Something clicked in Spiritus' brain. "Nonetheless...I think I'll go pay a call."
He hurried to the alchemy den and stepped inside, staying very close to the door and swaying queasily.
Marquise let out a surprised yawk! and bolted for the storage room. She missed the doorway by two feet and slid down the wall limply. Clawrice was right behind her but more successful in hiding.
"Ahem."
The green Spiral slowly poked her head around the door. "Yes?" she asked meekly.
"Are you two messing around with ordering eggs of strange, unusual, and potentially volatile properties again?"
Marquise raised bleary eyes to Clawrice's. They looked at each other and shook their heads. "Nope, not us this time."
"Then who...and why in Sorneith did you look so guilty when I walked in here?" Spiritus was feeling considerably green about the gills now, and hoped he looked more threatening than he felt.
"We thought you'd caught on to the other eggs," Marquise said glibly. Clawrice clawed her hat down over her eyes.
Sickness forgotten, Spiritus marched over to the Spirals. "What other eggs?"
Clawrice heaved a sigh. "We knew you'd figure it out eventually." She popped into the storeroom and brought out the two Nocturne eggs that she had filched a few weeks before. "These eggs. We figured we'd save back a couple for Aoide's birthday...again."
The Skydancer rolled his eyes, beginning to have a headache now as well as feeling sick to his stomach. "Again? Look, girls, if you'd just let me know about these things, then I can start to plan ahead, make out a budget, cut things a little here and a little there so we can afford it..."
"Okay, okay, we'll keep you informed. Now get out of here before you make us sick just by looking at you."
Gratefully Spiritus stumbled to the doorway, taking great gasps of fresh air. Suddenly his antennae picked up another furtive movement from the Spirals, and he whirled around sharply. "But I'll take those. Don't worry, I'll keep them separate from our bartering lot," he added over their protests.
That evening over his dinner, Aoide came by. "Oh, by the way, Spiritus, I remember now that I signed up for a raffle or two--some kind of thank-you gift for assisting with mercenary training, or something. I never dreamed that they'd offer Firstborns as payouts! I thought I had a chance at some rare enchanted apparel or scrolls. But in any case...do what you think best with them."
"Thank you, Aoide, I will." Spiritus bowed his head to his leader, smirking. He thought of the four eggs sitting together in their own designated crate--a crate made to his specifications, with partitions for twenty-six eggs...

Whiffle soared in circles around his mate, Phaedra. The slower Mirror snapped at him in play and put on a burst of speed. The Skydancer dodged expertly and flew right along underneath her.
"Behave," said the stoic Mirror as the Skydancer giggled in front of her. "What will the kids think?"
"Who cares?" Whiffle asked, gesturing behind them. Three tiny Mirrors and a small Skydancer sat on the back of an Imperial, whom they had left far behind. "Parents are allowed to be in love, and to have fun with each other."
The dark Mirror tried not to blush. "In any case, we're supposed to be guiding our party home, not flying so far ahead of them that they can't see us any more."
"I'll concede that point," Whiffle agreed. Suddenly his antennae straightened. His expression became very strange, and he dove for the ground without warning.
"What are you doing?" Phaedra yelled, plummeting after him.
The Skydancer pulled to a stop and fluttered gently to the ground. His mate cupped her wings and stopped her free-fall an instant before hitting the earth, a skill that only Wind dragons possessed. "What is it?"
"I'm not sure. But it feels like..." Whiffle poked his head into some taller grass, antennae twitching. He let out a soft cry, and reached into a clump, pulling out a single egg. It glowed softly green, and seemed to sway in its own breeze.
"Is that..." Phaedra reached for the egg, her warrior's claws gentle and soft around the delicate shell.
"I believe so," Whiffle responded. "It's a Firstborn child of the Windsinger."
Phaedra clutched the egg to her chest gently. She did not say anything to her mate, but she thought back to a conversation she had had with Aoide just a few weeks before. The clan leader had accidentally let slip that she thought that she and Whiffle were not very compatible mates and might do better off looking elsewhere. Phaedra knew that she meant more than just their personalities--although they looked like a well-matched pair, they were not, meaning that their children were frequently...odd-looking. Definitely not excellent Wind Representatives.
Aoide had immediately apologized, but it had still hurt. Phaedra looked at the egg once more. Perhaps this was the Windsinger's way of telling her that it was all right...that her children still bore his blessing...that her chosen mate, as different and ridiculous as he was, was still the right mate for her...
She glanced up at Whiffle to see his eyes shiny with unshed tears. "Sorry," she muttered. "I forgot Skydancers can read emotions."
"It's true, you know. Our children ARE purple."
Phaedra couldn't help but laugh. "And blue, and green, and every combination thereof."
"And they are beautiful!"
"Yes, they are!"

Frostfoam scurried along the beach, nosing each piece of driftwood and turning over every rock. You never know when you might find something useful--or when something might become suddenly valuable. She grinned as she adjusted her seaweed crown. I was wearing seaweed before it was cool, she thought. And now it was a collector's item. She'd been turning quite a tidy profit under Aoide's nose until her older brother Spiritus had sniffed out her clandestine operation and insisted on the clan taking a cut. He'd make a decent Mafia boss, she griped to herself.
Her pleasant mood forgotten, she poked along, glaring into every tidepool to see what she might find. Every seashell was examined, every possible edible packed away into one of her many bags. Every sand dollar was measured with care; the largest were carefully saved. They always had value, but right now, at the time of the Saturnalia, their value skyrocketed.
The next tidepool she carefully avoided. She'd learned from bitter experience what it was like to upset the Merfae who lived there. But in the following pool she found something unexpected: an egg.
She tapped it gently. There was no response. It was a dormant egg: abandoned, perhaps, or a Firstborn. Others would know for certain. But it was more valuable than many sand dollars. She grinned. With this kind of a bargaining chip, she might even be able to haggle her brother into giving her a few more of the profits from her seaweed creations.
