you confiscate my kazoo but little do you know that i have a second, hidden kazoo between my toes
Origins

Deep beneath the mostly unaware temple rests beasts that fester like an infection within the catacombs. Trapped within their barriers, desperately clawing their way to a freedom just a ragged, frigid breath away. Unable to grasp freedom themselves, they produce and extend their reach through Sornieth by their hands of their younglings. Having just enough old blood in their veins to fend for themselves, yet weak enough to penetrate the barriers, these entities fly off to unassuming cities and spread their diseased ideals.

It does not go unnoticed, and most of these beasts are dealt with in the silence of shadows, never to set near other dragonkind. But some reach their destinations, and it is then that dragons are dispatched to handle the threats. One such day with one such dragon blossomed thoughts of a future for generations to come. A group who could not only handle finicky little demons, but dragons that have become enemies to others. And here, sitting amidst the caravan riding beneath a canopy of sparkling silhouettes, the creation of the Blood Moon Dancers began.

An organization that was originally created to train assassins as lethal as they were ethereal to dispose of pesky demons, the Blood Moon Dancers now take up separate targets, such as fellow dragons, or other entities that have troubled many clans. After the first established house – House Antares – was created, many more followed in its path, allowing for a widespread influence of dragons that were skilled in the blade and dance. Hired for employment by many different dragons, whether it be pure entertainment or more nefarious deeds guised as a lighthearted dance, it all depends on the client. While there is a home base House that accepts and trains new recruits, many dancers, as well as other House members with influence to acquiring new customers, establish themselves in far off clans.

But they always return to their House when summoned.

House Information & Ranks

With precedents set and strictly followed by House Antares, numerous Houses began to crop up with the approval of the First House. After ensuring they had a proper, tested Head to lead them properly, they chose their House name and were sent off into the world. House names must be named after a star/constellation. There will be no House name duplicates.

House Head
Breed Restriction - Wildclaw
Gender Restriction - Female
Number - One

House Heads are, as the name implies, the 'leaders' of the House. They are the most skilled, passionate, and devout to the House and its rules. They put the lives of their House before their own, and approve of all missions prior to accepting for all their dancers. Their word is law, and disobeying even a single order may result in the termination of such dragons from their House. If such a thing arises, House Heads may, on rare, terrifying occasions, hunt down the traitors themselves. Such dire situations are rare, and a House Head dreads and hopes that day never comes. Silhouette scrolls are permitted, and if a Wildclaw Head identifies as a female, then that's also allowed. There cannot be two female Wildclaws in a single House -- giving birth to a female Wildclaw is considered taboo, and the female is cast out after training to start a House of her own. Due to their rarity and taboo, female Wildclaws do not breed with Imperials, Noctrunes, Coatls or other Wildclaws as to restrict their chances of hatching a female Wildclaw. These restrictions are also placed on male Wildclaws.

Second
Breed Restriction - None if female, Wildclaw, Coatl or Imperial if male
Gender Restriction - None
Number - One

The Second is the Head's closest compatriot -- they both trains incoming dancers and is in charge of relaying the Head's words to the rest of the House. If the Head isn't there, then the Second's word is law. They are the the second strongest and skilled dancer in the House, and typically remain at the House as the living word between Head and House. However, some Heads may permit their Second to live abroad, giving them orders to handle missions on their own, or create alliances. It all depends on the house.

Head Dancers
Breed Restriction - None
Gender Restriction - Female
Number - Two

Head Dancers typically remain within the House itself to train incoming dancers. Both are female and are completely responsible for their dancers. Portrayed as the closest 'parent' to many of the dancers, these dragons are maternal, yet stern, and act as the third and fourth most skilled dragons within the House. If a dancer is harmed under their watch, or is behind in their skills compared to the rest of the class, they are to blame. Thus, such relationships are important between Head Dancers and the dancers themselves. Silhouette scrolls are permitted, and if a dragon identifies as a female, then that's also allowed.

Dancers
Breed Restriction - None
Gender Restriction - Female
Number - Unlimited

Dancers make up the bulk of the Houses -- they may live within the House itself, or go off to other clans and spread the influence of the Houses, whether it be by collecting new clients or working by themselves. However, when assigned to a mission by the House itself, they are required to complete it -- and if they refuse, they could potentially be labeled traitors to the Head and be hunted down after being called Houseless. They may live out their lives within a clan, but when the House calls, they are expected to answer. Silhouette scrolls are permitted, and if a dragon identifies as a female, then that's also allowed.

Elite Dancers
Breed Restriction - Nocturne, Imperial, Obelisk, Fae, Guardian, Veilspun, Pearlcatcher, Ridgeback, Coatl
Gender Restriction - None
Number - Unlimited

Elite Dancers are dragons bred uniquely with magic resistance and an uncanny ability to seek out magic themselves. Originally bred for easily detecting demonic magic, these dancers also work well in situations where their target happens to be proficient in magic. However, due to their prideful nature and the natural rivalry between them and the regular dancers, they are forbidden from holding a position of power, and Wildclaws are strictly forbidden within the class. Furthermore, they are often paired with regular dancers are partners on missions to truly ensure the mission is a success. However, they are allowed to go by themselves as well. Males are allowed to be Elite Dancers, which only fuels the rivalry between these two breeds of dancers. Houseless Elite Dancers are known to be chaotic, and lacking any structure in their lives means they are dangerous to the lives of other dragons, and are usually hunted down.

Male Dancers
Breed Restriction - Wildclaw, Imperial, Coatl
Gender Restriction - Male
Number - Unlimited

Male dancers are rare within a House, and due to heavy expectations, they are restricted to certain breeds. However, if they prove to be talented at a young age, they are drafted into classes with the rest of the House to become a dancer. The same rules and expectations as female dancers apply to male dancers. Silhouette scrolls are permitted, and if a dragon identifies as a male, then that's also allowed.

Miscellaneous
Breed Restriction - None
Gender Restriction - Male
Number - Unlimited

Many other ranks within a House or scattered across Sornieth -- whether they be guards to dancers, messengers, spies, etc. If you have a question about a potential occupation, feel free to message me, but assume it's allowed unless it conflicts with the core of the House principles itself.

Houseless
Breed Restriction - None
Gender Restriction - None
Number - Unlimited

Houseless are those cast out by the House and most likely hunted by not only their own House, but other Houses. They seek out safety within other clans, often keeping their heads down, knowing that one wrong word and they could be found. Besides, they have no idea who is an ally to their House or other Houses -- they must be careful. Very rare in number as usually they are found and terminated, but some may make deals with their Heads if to remain alive if they are exceptionally talented -- or have a hefty amount of blackmail -- but this is also rare. Houseless dragons are not allowed back into Houses -- Head's of any House are reluctant to allow a traitor into their midst, no matter the reason.

Elite Houses

Born from the spite of repression, Elite Houses rose after Elite Dancers rebelled against their Modern leaders. These Houses detest each other, and rare encounters with rival dancers in territories or out on missions end in bloody disputes. Despite this, they are similar in structure, and Elite Houses have merely swapped the roles. All Elites now hold positions of power, though the male Elites are restricted on what they can do and what breeds apply (similar to Modern males). Moderns may have places in the House, but they are all clumped together, and males of all their accepted breeds can be dancers. However, no Modern Wildclaws are allowed in these Houses, only Elite Wildclaws (one female, limited males). This is the same for Modern Houses - they do not allow any Wildclaws of the Elite variety, but allow limited male Wildclaws if they are Modern. Elite Houses hold similar traditions and festivals around the same time of year, allowing for a brief respite.

The Houses

Meet the Houses and their Heads! Each House has been given their own Excel Sheet so it's easier to figure out which House you would like join. Please respect Houses that are not open to accepting. They may change in the future, but if it's closed, please respect that the player wishes to have a House only to themselves within their clan. If you have a question about a rank, feel free to reach out to the House Head player to ask about whether your dragon may fill it. Please be aware that if you own a House, this may happen -- if you do not want unsolicited PM's or pings, please contact me and I will edit it within your House information splurge. Each player can have up to two Houses, but can only have one public House. This is to deter an abundance of people hoarding female WC's, but also giving the opportunity for some personal clan lore.

Modern Houses

Modern Houses are the original, staple Houses of the Blood Moon Dancer. Due to their age, they have grown in mass numbers and hold substantial influence across the world. With contacts beyond just their House members, these Houses are strict, traditional, and prioritize their contracts with dragons to complete jobs and pursue personal exploits. All Modern Houses comply to the rules laid out by Colette, and after years, are completely independent and capable of defending land and dragons confidently.

Modern Houses Document

Elite Houses

Elite Houses are new Houses that have sprouted from a collective uprising against Modern Houses led by Skalti. They are ruthless, survivalists, and while gritty, are small and their influence is limited. In time, they will grow, but they are still leagues behind their Modern House counterparts who are fully sustainable on their own thanks to years of development. However, with their unique genetics, they are still dangerous to meet on the field. Elite Houses detest Modern Houses, and their ranks are flip flopped to be the complete opposite of Modern Houses.

Registiring

All newly born Blood Moon Dancers will not be immediately registered to a House just in case someone simply likes the colors and wants no affiliation with the subspecies. If you wish you register your dragon, check to see if any Houses are open, and feel free to add your dragon to a rank. If you want me to do it, feel free to just post here and I'm more than happy to do it for you!

Anyone who has a House may change their information splurge or close or open their House whenever they want. Please message me this, however. If you do not message and communicate, they will remain the way they are since I am unaware of the change. Do not feel pressured to keep your House opened or closed! That's entirely up to you.

If you want to register a House, please post here or send me a message.

If anyone's interested in a bio code to slap on their hatchlings, please click here.

Lanterne & Echoed Winds Festivals

The Lanterne and Echoed Winds Festivals are where the Houses all around Sornieth throw a free festival for all the public in their jurisdiction. The Lanterne Festival is in summertime, and takes place in the evening where the only light is from the moon and the lanterns they hang around outside their theaters. Yes, the festival takes place outside, and all dancers are allowed to celebrate, but also required to put on entertainment for their guests. However, it is much more lax, and basically celebrates the Houses and the community. It also gives the House good publicity so their more insidious deeds are left further in the dark. No assassinations are allowed to occur during these festivals. Vendors that aren't a part of the House are allowed to sell their wares, however, they are required to apply in-person with the Head to make sure no shady drakes are swindling their guests. They hold firefly catching contests, give away flower bouquets, and much more!

The Echoed Winds Festival is also outside, but takes place in the winter. It's the same rundown as the Lanterne Festival, but this time, there are snowball fights and snowdragon(man) building competitions! The dancers also get to exhibit their gifts on ice, as they provide one of the biggest plays on the nearest frozen lake or river for the public. Before and after the show, their guests are welcome to skate and talk with the dancers. Lanterns are also used as decoration for the festivals, however, the festival starts earlier in the day and once evening hits, the play starts so they skate under the moon.

Participants will have two weeks to respond to a small writing prompt -- or draw it -- and that will put them into a pool to earn a prize. Winners will be chosen at random with a random generator. If you don't wish to write or draw anything, or don't have a Blood Moon Dancer just yet or want to showcase your other dragons with your subspecies one, you are more than welcome to write about other dragons coming to the festivals!

Prizes will vary, but I take suggestions on what you guys want! Please, suggest items! I try and gather some unique items over the course of FR, and while this is a subspecies centered festival, I'm trying to give you guys fun things, like apparel sets or breed change scrolls or whatever. Donations are also accepted, but completely unnecessary. Any ideas you folks have would really make my day.

Honor Battles

As the subspecies grows larger and Houseless dragons either seeking glory or homes frequent the doorsteps of preexisting Houses, there also lurks dangers. Female Wildclaws who qualify for these positions, yet hold no power, may come and challenge an existing Head for her position. By challenging a Head, they are officially untouchable by the rest of the House -- and the two females will spar before all who are affiliated. By doing this, there are plenty of witnesses to the victor, who may do with the loser how she sees fit, whether by exiling or some other means. If the Head is overthrown, her immediate Second and Head Dancers are typically replaced to place only those she trusts in the higher ranks. Many underlings will either remain in their comfy lives, or flee with the previous Head -- if the victor was kind enough to let her live. These brawls are ruthless and at the end of it, to show their support, every member of the House will bow their head to the ground in submission. It's tradition, and also requires the Head to remain vigilant to everything in her territory.
