About TEAS

The TEAS directory and newsletter started as a short list of friends from various flights who wished to keep in touch as they learned more about the art of tea-making. Over the years it has grown to encompass all flights, tastes, tea-related professions and skill levels, and has inspired many a dragon to try out this ancient practice who might not have otherwise.

Sornieth Tea History

It is widely believed that the first tea-makers of Sornieth were Dunhoof centaurs in what is now the Viridian Labyrinth. Even if they were not the first, they invented tea-making independently of other beastclans in the Second Age, and their techniques are well-refined. While all beastclans can enjoy tea, its use is most prevalent among centaurs, longnecks and fauns. (One might think that dryads would like it, but they tend not to see the point.) The dragons that drink the most tea are those of the Nature and Wind flights, but enthusiasm for tea has spread quickly among scholars of all flights. With the advent of the postal system and a bit of good advertising, tea is now being shipped all over Sornieth.

Various ways of processing the tea plant result in products called black tea, oolong tea, green tea, white tea, and rarely yellow tea. "Herbal tea" is any plant that may be infused in hot water; some popular herbal teas include chamomile, peppermint, ginger, and rooibos. True tea can also be flavored with other substances, such as when black tea is flavored with the oil of the bergamot orange (often called "earl grey"), or when green tea is scented with jasmine.

It was the Wind flight that developed the art of cooking tapioca starch in small pieces and putting these pieces into a cold beverage such as iced tea. The resulting beverage may have dairy in it and is often shaken together, resulting in the name "bubble tea".
