The two creatures looked at each other and then at the water they had come from. In time, the first would take on the name Dew, and the second would become Rill. As they explored their River and the forest surrounding it, they would find that they could if they wished take on the form of a puddle again. They could become one with the River and use its energy to travel as far through it as they wished, and take shape again afterward. They discovered that they could even control the water's movements, extending the Magic that gave them life into it for a time. They also found that they, as if by instinct, knew a lot about the life and that surrounded them, as if the Magic that they embodied was the same that governed all of the plants and animals of the region. Though they know that some of these creatures must inevitably become prey for those larger and stronger than them, Dew and Rill frequently used their power over the water to protect the smallest and the weakest. And even larger predators are sometimes threatened by creatures that inhabit the land. They became protectors over all of the living things of their River. Their first contact with dragons was with a few members of a small clan living not far from The River. They watched from the safety of the water at first, as their innate knowledge told them nothing about these inhabitants of the forest. After some time of observing the dragons that visited their River, they came to the conclusion that these larger creatures were not a threat, and many even cared for the life of the forest around them. The two little creatures spent some time amongst this clan, learning about Sornieth, other types of Magic, and about how to be a dragon. Along with other things, they learned that dragons were hatched from eggs. But they had simply arisen from the water. Ever curious, they wondered if they might be able to produce offspring too in some way. And after a bit of thought, and trial and error, they combined a few drops of the water that gave them form. At first, nothing seemed to happen. But after some time, these tiny little puddles grew larger and began to take on shape much as Dew and Rill had. Though some looked a little different, these new beings seemed to be much the same as their parents. And many of them went on to form partnerships with other dragons. Though the results were a little more dragonlike, a little more solid, these descendants seemed to maintain much of their progenitors' affinity for water and power over it. Some even retained their ability to change state and blend with the water. Longing for their birthplace and its various living things, Dew and Rill eventually left the clan and returned to their River, where they keep watch over the waters and the creatures that inhabit it to this day. They like their solitude, and tend to hide from dragons that approach the water. But a very lucky dragon may catch a glimpse of one of them before they meld into the current. Lore

It was a cool spring morning when something began to stir in the rapid waters of The River that forged its way through the thick trees of the Shreiking Wilds. Water splashed up onto The River's Bank, and this small puddle slowly took on new form. It resembled a hatchling in shape, made of swirling water that refracted the sun's light to create the illusion of ever-changing colors.

It looked around curiously at its surroundings, intrigued by the swaying trees, buzzing of insects, and variety of animal calls that filled the air of the forest at all times of day. And then it examined its own tiny clawed hand.

What am I? And what is this place?

It was soon joined on the bank by another puddle, and the first watched as it took on a similar form to theirs.

Sublineage Registry
Some of Dew and Rill's offspring have found that their lines have their own distinct characteristics. Some are drawn to specific types of bodies of water, some are drawn to s different types of Magic. The possibilities are as diverse as the dragons themselves!

Each sublineage is headed by a direct offspring of Dew and Rill and has their own lore that sets them apart from others.

To register a sublineage, follow the instructions at the bottom of this post!

Sea Dwellers
Descended from Laqueta, Owned by Agion
64852297_350.png
Sea Dwellers feel an innate pull towards the openness of the ocean, but they never stray far from their home in the rivers. They often hide among the seaweeds and kelp, being quiet and shy creatures, only appearing to dragons when necessary. Sea Dweller River Fae are regularly estranged from the rest of their bloodline, save for other Dwellers, because of the long distance between them.

Twisted Currents
Descended from Est, Owned by ZincAlloy
64852296_350.png
Twisted Currents are often silent and aloof, preferring to watch over and protect a riverside dragon clan or beastclan settlement from a distance. All to often though, they'll become attached to someone or something and follow them far away from the river they still call home. Their yearning to return to the waters they protect and innate arcane magic give them the power to temporarily twist currents, causing a river to flow upstream, waterfalls to fall upwards, and other similar effects.

Bourn Bound
Descended from Rivule, Owned by KalicoKat
65275272_350.png
Dragons descended from Rivule and her mate Runne, though they retain the powerful water-bending abilities of Dew and Rill, tend to prefer small, trickling streams. They are entranced by the calmer waters of these rivulets, gentle babbling of the shallow rills over the rocks, and the variety of wildlife that make these waters their homes. They will venture into deeper waters when necessary without fear, but always return to their bourns.

Marshdwellers
Descended from Aeshnu, Owned by KalicoKat
65853793_350.png
Living in stagnant marshes, dragons of this sublineage take inspiration from the vast variety of aquatic insects found in the waters they call home. Dragons descended from Aeshnu and his mate Dryo do retain the water-bending abilities that Dew and Rill are known for, but changing their form takes a lot of energy and tends to leave them feeling drained for a period. They usually choose to stay in their insect-like form.
