He doesn't look particularly imposing, and he's not especially villainous or vengeful, mostly interested in scavenging what his crew needs to continue sailing. Though he's not opposed to raiding when it's called for.

Cabin girl Artaban, who studies under her uncle and has dreams of succeeding him as captain one day. She knows her chances aren't great - Uncle Kanaloa has three sons in the crew who all outrank her - but she loves the pirate life and would gladly spend the rest of her life at sea.

Makai is Kanaloa's little brother and the crew's best warrior, but most of his skill is just for show, and he dislikes fighting actual opponents unless he has to. He's too much of a refined gentleman with a taste for the finer things in life to spend his time challenging others to pointless battles. But being a pirate lets him satisfy his desire for said finer things, and he likes hanging out with the family, so it all works out!
