Her name is Astarrea. [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/60325175][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/rendern/350/603252/60325175_350.png[/img][/url] Even outside of the Strand, those who live near the woods are wary of her. There are all sorts of legends and folktales, warning dragons not to wander too deeply into her territory, and to always give her proper respect. Of course, there are those who do not believe the legends about the starwood kami...and then, when they do not return, or come back with their minds broken, they become the center of new tales, themselves... Why is Astarrea so vicious, though? Is she an evil kami? Not at all! To those who respect her, she inspires breakthroughs to mental blocks, and grants intellectual clarity. She is, however, first and foremost, a guardian to the kodama in her woods. What is a kodama, though? A kodama is a shape-shifting tree-spirit, similar to a dryad. They transform between their dragon and spirit forms at will, but a kodama's true body is that of a tree. If the tree dies, the kodama fades away. Each kodama's dragon and spirit form resemble their tree. (Though there are some kinds of lesser kodama who cannot wander as spirits. These kodama became kodama through some other means, and are not naturally so, hence their limitations.) They are fairly docile creatures, only desiring to live peacefully in their forest homes. They rely on their kami (much more powerful spirits who rule over their homes) to protect them, and follow their commands without question. However, Astarrea only has direct rule over the starwood trees in her territory. And in Astrrea's territory, there is another kami. He is her husband, Sanmei, and he rules over a grove of sakura trees. This grove rests deep within Astarrea's territory, and though she does not rule over the kodama there directly, Sanmei is submissive to his wife's authority, as he and his kodama live within her greater territory. He is a muse, and many an artist seeks him out, but he is very difficult to reach. First, one would need Astarrea's permission to see him, and then permission from Sanmei himself to enter his grove, which he does not leave. Permission is not easily granted, and if one offends either kami, a terrible fate awaits them.

Kodama are tree spirits, and generally harmless. However, under the direction of their kami, they can potentially be quite formidable. These kodama are considered second-class citizens among their kind because the only way that one becomes such a kodama is through the kamis' curse, and part of the curse is that they are given a role of servitude. And [i]this[/i] is because a dragon is only cursed if he or she breaks the law of the kami (usually through trespassing.) They are also powerless to resist the curse and any command given to them by their superiors. They have less freedom, too, and will generally be confined to Astarrea's territory. These kodama and their trees both are slowly rotting away. For the protection of the healthy trees, the kami have banished them from their fellows, and so they wander far from home. They make their dens out of magically-cured tree sap, and where can one find more trees in the Starfall Isles than in the Starwood Strand? Perhaps it should not come as a surprise, then, that hidden within Astarrea's territory is a very old Fae village. This is the home of a clan of Fae called the Shinobira. The Shinobira have lived at peace with Astarrea since even before Sanmei came to the forest. The priests and priestesses of Astarrea are always communing with their kami, divining from her what is acceptable and whatever orders she may have for them. Priests and priestesses are instructed in how to do this from a young age, and keep this role for the rest of their lives. Its is a highly honored position to hold within the clan, but not many are granted it. In fact, there are usually no more than five acting priests and priestesses at a time. The elder priests and priestesses hold the most power, being the most knowledgeable about the kami, and they have the highest authority in the clan. These hidden warriors know how to move about the trees of Astarrea's territory in such a way as not only to avoid detection, but also to ensure that none of the trees are harmed or bothered by their movements. Every clan member is taught this even with his or her first steps. If a child is not chosen to be a priest or priestess, then he or she continues on this path of the secret warrior. Though Astarrea and Sanmei are powerful forces in their own right, a good part of that power comes from organizing their resources and mobilizing those under their command. One such force is the Shinobira. There are many everyday tasks that have been delegated to them, such as making the rounds of the territory and killing insects that are preying on the trees. This task is particularly useful to the Shinobira in that not only are they pleasing their kami, protecting the trees of their home, and getting in some valuable training by which to hone their skills, but the insects they hunt are also their main source of food. Other roles they may be called upon to fill include protecting the Kodama from harmful animals, weeds, fungi, and beastclans living in the forest. They may also be called upon to quietly deal with intruders to the forest. The Shinobira are extremely mistrustful of outsiders, and never leave the Starwood Strand. They only ever leave Astarrea's territory if told to as well, but that has not happened in a very long time. They are a closed, highly-insulated community. That said, there have been rare cases of abandoned Fae being adopted into the clan on their kami's orders. Very rarely, however, a dragon may hear from a member of the beastclans about something living in the territory. Some sort of hidden village of stealthy, deadly warriors who fulfill the kami's wishes... ----- [u]Shinobira Requirements[/u] Elements: [i]Arcane (VERY. VERY RARELY other elements MAY be allowed in as outsiders, but this is EXTREMELY UNCOMMON.)[/i] Breeds: [i]Fae (ONLY.)[/i] Colors: [i]They blend in with the shadows and the trees around them. Pink-range, purple-range, blue-range and black-range tend to be fairly safe bets. But, basically, think camo, but where all of the colors blend in to the previously-displayed Kodama.[/i] Genes: [i]Whatever helps them blend in. Fade/Blend and Swirl/Marbled are particular favorites, as are Firefly and Glowtail. ... Remember, they're blending in with trees that glow half the time, so a mix of light and shadow is helpful.[/i] [u]Assignment[/u] Shinobira will wind up working in an environment in which they blend in the best. They act not only as hunters but also as guards, and will communicate in a chain-link kind of way. Hence, there are many positioned all over Astarrea's territory at any given time. They work in shifts, too, but are mostly organized (at least directly) by the head ninja or kunoichi, who receives his or her orders from the priests and priestesses, who receive their orders from the kami. [u]Names[/u] All Shinobira's official names start with "Shinobira no" but they do not use this formal title amongst one another. Rather, they call each other by their given names.
