A caravan of wandering traders, you're no stranger to harsh trails and hardship, but the Ashfall Wastes are a new challenge to you, and there's trouble at every turn. To be sure, fellow travelers and Fire Flight inhabitants are pleasant enough, if a bit opinionated. It's the land itself that seems determined to undermine your journey. One by one, your wagon's wooden wheels had combusted, until finally, you were left with a useless metal box and no way to move it across the ground. Wanting nothing more than to put your first day in the Wastes behind you, you laboriously haul your bedroll and tarps from the wheel-less wagon. Even undoing the knots of the cords seems strenuous. But then, you hear a whisper. You blink blearily, peering into the dim light of evening. Despite the frequency of magma pools, it's darker here in the Wastes, with swirling ash obscuring a decent amount of moonlight. At first, you see nothing; but then, a bright flame coalesces before you. Startled, you jump back, only to discover the flame taking the shape of a dragon draped in flaming plumage ranging from bright orange to a calming blue. As suddenly as they came, they fade, as if blown back by the wind... except, there is no wind. Only a murmured, intriguing melody, as if someone were hissing a tune. They seem to be asking you to follow. Your heart pounding, you consider turning away... but there's something about this apparition. So you follow. The wisp gambols ahead, seemingly pleased by having found companionship in you. At one point, they flit around you; but to your surprise, they don't burn to the touch. Instead, it's a pleasant feeling, reminding you of the welcoming warmth of your hearth back in your homeland. This creature seems friendly enough, but you're still wary of where they might be leading you, especially when they fall back, choosing to follow you instead as the path leads down a narrow corridor through a rocky crevasse. Suddenly, you turn a corner into a dead end, with nothing but a heap of useless scrap piled on the ground, the bygone remnants of an ancient machine- nothing especially outstanding here in the Wastes, home of the metalworkers. Fearing the worst, you turn back towards the wisp, which charges. You brace... but they pass through you harmlessly. You turn just in time to see them jump head-first into a large pile of scrap metal and vanish. A glint catches your eye, and you begin to dig through the debris, to find... Large, metal gears? You examine them. They seem to be in good condition, with no rust and few dents. You're awed by their size- each one as big as a... wagon... wheel... By the Deities! That's it!! You call out to the wisp to thank them, but they've vanished. Shrugging, you begin rolling one of the gears down the path, eager to show your companions and bring back help to retrieve more. No more wooden wheels to worry about; these gears are the perfect replacement. As you leave, flames burble over the surface of the stone walls like water. Something resembling a face forms, the edges of it upturned, as if in a smile. And then, duty done, it disappears.[/i][/size] [img]https://i.imgur.com/wuPbsUZ.png[/img] [size=5][b]PERSONALITIES[/b][/size] [size=4]Only found in the Ashfall Wastes, Will O' Wisps, or "Wisps" for short, are jovial tricksters that delight in the concept of balance. They are curious by nature and wonderful observers, with a keen eye for useful trinkets & buried treasure. Made of pure heat, they possess the ability to phase in and out of their flaming corporeal form, and use this to follow anyone who catches their interest. If they are pleased by your generous deeds or feel pity for your misfortunes, Wisps will lead you to things of value. A Wisp that observes a particularly violent misdeed will instead lead one to a miserable end at the hands of natural hazards.[/size] [size=5][b]CLAN LIFE[/b][/size] [size=4]Though typically solitary nomads, Wisps are attracted to magic, and clans with particularly talented wizards can learn to attract them with magical energy. While Wisps born of the Ashfall Wastes generally align Chaotic Good, they can sometimes be coerced into committing evil acts through deceit. Master Fire conjurers may also learn to create Wisps through magical means. Conjured Wisps will obey their master's every command... for better or for worse. Most Wisps are excellent judges of character, and Wisps pledged to a particular clan can be posted as guards. If a Wisp deems a passerby as friendly and honest, they will happily lead that traveler to the entrance of the clan wyer. If they are judged to have ill intent, well... Let's just say that dedicated Wisps make wonderful sentries. Their vigilant, loyal, yet playful natures mean they excel at guarding nesting eggs in particular. [emoji=primary gene size=1] [b]PRIMARY RANGE[/b]: Spruce > Storm [emoji=secondary gene size=1] [b]SECONDARY RANGE[/b]: Indigo > Stonewash [emoji=tertiary gene size=1] [b]TERTIARY RANGE[/b]: Sunshine > Pumpkin To be considered a thoroughbred Wisp, your dragon must be in these ranges, and exhibit [b]Tapir[/b], [b]Alloy[/b], and [b]Glimmer[/b] genes. Right now, the only acceptable breed for this species is [b]Coatl[/b]. Eyes can come in all shades, but Will o' Wisps are exclusively denizens of [b]Fire[/b]! [b]No variants for this subspecies officially exist outside of Eternal Youth (Lil' O' Wisps). If you would like to discuss creating a variant, please PM me with your concept![/b] Other species and color ranges may be considered, so don't feel like you have to stick to this specific combo. Wide-eyed, they watch things with delight, highly attracted to movement, loud colors, and bright objects. A vocal lot, Lil' O' Wisps vocalize mostly in screeches & keens that can annoy most dragons. They are often quickly forgiven and melt even the most icy heart with their antics. After all- just look at that cute face! Though they often mean well, they may lack the keen sense of morality that mature Wisps have, and may overreact to -or ignore- things that mature Wisps wouldn't.
