He was currently residing in the Pack of the New Pestilence, one of the most feared clans. He hummed an old folk tune, feeling two more frames sit next to him. "This is where you settled down?" Hummed a fae curiously "I can see why. Could use some brightenin' up" Huffed another skydancer, this one with a thick southern accent. "You do realize I'll look insane talking to you?" Chuckled the original skydancer, not meeting the new figures' gazes. "I've been in many clans that take me in. But here, I made a promise. I'm an old friend of some of the high ranking here. They'll keep me safe, and in return, I join them." He said in a balanced, airy tone. "Most like me make this deal. Storytellers are a wanted kind, because we have a kind of magic no others possess" "Us" Murmured the fae, nodding "Yes, you. And every other story I tell. This has been way too long in the making. I kept debating on actually making it a thing, and then would procrastinate on the post when I finally got to choosing. But it's here! A Story to be Told is a subspecies that centers around Stories, and Storytellers. Storytellers possess an old form of magic that allows them to bring a story to life. These Stories then take a ghost-like form that can only be seen by those who know their tale. What a Story is about can be of endless possibilities, only limited to a Storyteller's imagination. However, Stories of a similar theme will always have similar appearance. No one knows exactly who the first Storytellers got their ability from, as no deity had ever seen this ability before. This is up to myths and legends, for no dragon who saw the first Storyteller is alive today. But the descendants still live, and now they spread their own tales to brighten the world[/size] [size=6]This subspecies is co-hosted between me and @WillowtheWispy. They are natural caregivers, with a talent for making young dragons smile and laugh. When in clans, they can often be seen hanging around the hatchlings, helping out with watching or teaching them. Their gentle nature makes them ill equipped at fighting, which is why they will often seek the protection of clans. Dragons usually take them in without a fuss due to their reputations of being both helpful and self sufficient. However, Storytellers can be trained to fight, often using their stories to aid them. They generally have a soft color pallet of tones, including tan browns, soft yellows, generally easy on the eyes colors. Any element, breed, and gender is allowed with storytellers. Storytellers are almost never found in dark colors, greys, or neons. Typically these dragons do not have a strong enough grasp on the gifted abilities to create new Stories. However, Magia are highly in tune to Lost Stories, and are able to save them by finding their original name and tale. As Magia are not born with Storyteller abilities, they are generally less sought after by Corrupt Stories, due to their magical abilities granting them a leg up in combat that normal Storytellers do not have.[/i] ------- [size=5][font=papyrus]Magia are generally not color restricted like Storytellers due to their separate lineage. So they are allowed to have bright and dark colors. Magia generally wear apparel that correlates to who they used to be, Seer, Mage, Witch, ect... These dragons will usually have books or scrolls on them with the tales of Lost Stories so they can be spread easier, and will generally be fairly neutral when it comes to elements. However, this also makes them a prime target for becoming Lost or Corrupt Stories, due to the naivety of younger Storytellers who usually create them. But this is also why they are usually so easily seen by other dragons, because the young Storytellers that make them are eager to share their ideas they spread like a wildfire. And no one seems to complain because of their action packed nature. High noon Stories are commonly found on their own, due to the common trope of an outlaw or a traveler. These Stories are very independent and will not often interact with their Storyteller. However, they have also been seen forming groups from 2-5. These groups consist of varying tropes, and are very inclusive. They tend to stick close to their Storyteller and commonly interact. [/i] ------ [font=papyrus][size=5]High noon Stories are generally of sandy, tanned, or dirt-like colors, similar to the scenery found around them in their fabled desert homes. They tend to have less busy genes and more ones that will have little to no accent color(No poison, chevron, pinstripe unless muted. Skink has limits). Whites are basically unheard of due to the amount of sand in the desert that covers even the whitest of dragons in a thin coat of tan. Similar to Storytellers, you will almost never find blacks, greys, or neons. Stay away from cool colors and stick to warm ones. Following the death of a Storyteller, their Stories slowly fade as dragons forget their tale, reduced to a specter of who they used to be. Lost Stories are usually seen as ghosts at the corner of dragons eyes, faint smudges of white that will disappear when you try to look at them, unless in pitch black. They often try to lure Storytellers to books and scrolls so they may be revitalized to their full forms. They are usually passive, friendly even, to those two can see them. Storytellers and hatchlings usually see them the easiest. They are gentle and soft, but determined to redeem themselves and return to who they used to be. [/i]----- [font=papyrus][size=5]As described earlier, lost stories generally come in a range of whites and whites alone. Genes are restricted that keep to this pure white, perhaps with a light grey. Keep away from flashy genes such as Met/Alloy, Iri/Shim, and Cry/Fac unless dulled down with stained please. They are supposed to be duller and less noticeable. One way it can form is through a lost story. A lost story can become vengeful, starting the slow process of corruption. Their white colors fade to black and they become more visible. These stories are to be feared and killed before they hurt Storytellers, or kill them, in an attempt to bring other Stories into their fate. The other way is when a storyteller experiences mental illness. Depression, PTSD, Bipolar, and other harmful mental illness in Storytellers can corrupt their Stories. These newly corrupted Stories will usually carry similarities to the mental illness. If these are seen, it is advised to find the Storyteller. Because unlike the other Corrupt stories, these can be reverted if the Storyteller gets proper help [/i] ----- [size=5][font=papyrus]Based on how they are made, corrupt stories can look two different ways. Former Lost Stories are generally in the Oilslick-Midnight range, with no accent colors. However, they can have white accents. How much white is on a courrpted story relates to how corrupt they are. The more white, the less corrupt. If fully corrupt, however, there will be no whites, no grays, only blacks. Corrupt Stories through illness in Storytellers are often seen with accents of color, only in dark shades. Colors like Abyss, Shadow, Hunter, and other dark but not black colors are now usable. However, these Stories will almost never have white accents. They barely consider their Storyteller as an equal, only respecting them enough to not be forgotten or wiped from existence completely[/size][i][size=4](Do note this is not painful in the slightest)[/size][/i][size=5][i]. Kings and Queens are rarely the central focus of these tales, therefore are never alone in their creation, existing alongside other Stories. They do not need to be good, as some are done up as villains. Villian Stories are actually not bad when brought into creation- Just intimidating. They tend to be quite amusing when living and in sight However, there is the oddity of a King/Queen focused tale, in which these Stories can be found on their own. These are usually more fleshed out in personality, and have much more diverse traits and backstories. These tend to break the snobby mold and are much more diverse. [/i] ----- [font=papyrus][size=5]Kings and queens will always have a skin color-like primary color, from pale to dark, any kind. The gene will not introduce accent colors or look unnatural, unless this accent color matches their secondary and tertiary. These two colors will always be the same, and will be the basis for their apparel. King and Queen apparel primarily consists of precious gems, metals, and silks. Queens will generally have large dresses or skirts, and have more silks then gems. Kings will have capes covering armor, and many precious gems and metals. Should they be let loose.... Dragon-kind should consider themselves doomed for extinction. Centuries ago, a war broke out. A harsh war no side could find triumph in. One side decided to call upon Storytellers. They threatened them into creating a weapon. A Story so powerful and so threatening, that you need not know its name to feel it breathing down your neck. And with the threat of torture and death looming over their heads, these ancient Storytellers did. They created monsters. These Stories ripped across the battlefield when they were released, destroying the ground and murdering countless dragons, enemy and alley alike. Eventually, all sides allied with each other to be rid of the monstrous creatures. Unable to kill them, they were sealed away, deep under the ocean surface, in the territory of no dragon. They were left to rot in their prison, their unholy screeches heard for hundreds of miles. It is said, that should any dragon come close to the ground above them, they can feel the tug of these Stories, a call of desperation, laced with a thirst for vengeance.[/i] ----- [font=papyrus][size=5]These Stories' appearance reflects their nature. Feral, sparatic, and brutish. They will often decorate themselves in bones and tattered, or war clothing. They will never don a full set of armor, priding themselves in their sheer power, as well as any scars they may get. They will often have crude weapons, and rarely wear white of any kind. Just like in their apparel, their hides are the same. They will have eyeburning, flesh-like, or dark colors, ontop of crowded genes. The harder to understand them, the better for them as they wage war. They will often have skins to make them appear more confusing or sinister looking.
