Told majorly in stories to help lull a weary hatchling to sleep, Mothwing dragons were credited with being creatures with whimsical and charismatic personalities capable of warding off evil spirits. There hasn't been enough conclusive studies to show if the true Mothwing dragon can do what their wives-tale variant can, but none spoken to have denied it. One thing became certain with the appearance of these colorful dragons - they bore no notable elemental allegiance. No matter the flight, it seemed capable of producing a Mothwing that bore the same characteristics of their peers. More often than not, parents would have a hatchling that would develop a Mothwing pattern later in life, much to the confusion of many scholars. [/columns] [center] A genetic mutation, the rise of Mothwing dragons arose when dragons with the necessary recessive genes coupled. After many years, the generations have diverged enough to avoid possible toxic bloodlines, and are now on the rise. Due to the nature of this occurrence, the mutation has crystallized over the years into a purer form. Formerly faded or otherwise less vibrant markings have become more vibrant, and a more insectoid nature has become much more prominent in the otherwise dragon-like ways of the Mothwing. Mothwing, while capable of being loners, usually live in colonies. Colonies are usually headed by a queen, or other similar hierarchy that oversees the brood. While there is no general restriction on breeding in Mothwing colonies and both male and female specimens are fertile, there is generally one or two that are the "brood-carers". Hatchling Mothwing are stored in "brood walls" that are well guarded portions of the colony territory. Typically these nursery areas are well fortified and well protected places that are burrowed into walls, but they can also be underground. The eggs will be surrounded by natural debris and kept warm in compost - whence they hatch, they will feed on the remnants of their own egg for three days before beginning to eat solids given to them by the Carers. Depending on the size of juvenile Mothwing (eg; imperial mothwing) they will remain much longer in their compost nest. The larger juveniles will often be fed a liquid substance by the adults, a partially digested cud that they will regurgitate up from their stomachs at the beckoning of children. Pureblooded Mothwings have plainly patterned bodies that are typically an ombre-fade of one color into another, although halfblooded mothwings have been seen with simpler patterns such as spots and stripes. When it comes time for breeding and courtship, Mothwing tend to prefer others of their kind that have the same or similar colors to their own. It is unlikely for a mothwing pairing to couple if their color difference is too extreme, out of a fear of accidentally ostracizing their children from their communities. In the event a couple is unable to pair, they may seek out surrogates - as Mothwing communities are incredibly accepting and tolerable. If a Mothwing couples with someone outside of their community and creates children, they will create "halfwings". While eyes may help a mothwing secure a position, that position is not definite. A mothwing with rare eyes could be a warrior, and a mothwing with common eyes could be a brood carer.
