Something or someone must have created them. There is something so perfect, so artificial about the way they drain the color from fields of flowers. It's beautiful, but in an eerie way. Your instincts were right. The spell to create a Flutterfae was created by an ancient mage of the Plague flight looking to create a biological weapon against the Gladekeeper. These Fae-like creatures were intended to take not just the color but the life from any plant they encountered, neutralizing the natural defenses of the Viridian Labyrinth. The creatures you see today are only a prototype. The spell was never finished and the project was abandoned as the Nature flight crept closer and closer to the original mage's clan. It became that long-term weapons like the Flutterfae needed to be put aside to deal with the immediate threat of the Gladekeeper's armies. Even with all their efforts focused on defense, the Plague clan was destroyed. The detailed instructions on how to create a Flutterfae managed to survive, but they were buried in the ruins as greenery overtook the remnants of the clan. One day, a curious archaeologist stumbled upon the crumbling parchment. They immediately copied the entire writing to fresh paper and donated it to a library, where any dragon could stumble across it.
