Now close your eyes and the change will begin.” When the dragons opened their eyes, they found that their wings had grown much larger, allowing them to fly and glide for much longer distances, they also had gained a new pattern on their wings, resembling the stars high above. The clan gave themselves a new name Starshrikes, after the starry patterns on their wings and the brave dragon who had led them through the storm. Introduction
The Starshrikes are a subspecies descended from a clan blessed by a Unnamed God. They have long remained separate from the dragons of Sornieth, living within an island fortress. Now, at last they have chosen to return...

History
kwcWxpW.png
The legend of the Starshrikes began at the end of the Third Age, when the newly formed dragons were first forming their societies. It was during this time when a small group of Wildclaws who had settled in the newly formed Shifting Expanse was fleeing a large, powerful pack of Mirror dragons, who had invaded their lands. During their escape, the clan became pinned between the rival clan and the cliffs bordering the Unnamed Sea, facing certain death if they were to stay and fight the pack, and the great unknown if they chose to flee over the cliffs into the Unnamed Sea.
The leader of this clan, A Wildclaw named Shrike chose to brave the dangers of the Sea and lead his clan over the cliffs. The clan of Wildclaws flew for days, aided by updrafts and a surprising lack of storms. The pack of mirrors pursued them past the speckling of swampy islands and out over open sea. The chase lasted for three days until a powerful storm blew in.
The Wildclaws did their best to fly through the storm, however it was too powerful, and their numbers began to fall as members of the clan were lost to the waves below. Shrike searched desperately for a safe place to land. The only option was a tall pillar of land, soaring high into the clouds through the heart of the raging storm. He flew towards it, fighting the howling winds which tore at his wings as he led the clan to the pillar and at last, he made it, digging his claws into the stone atop the pillar. Shrike and the remainder of his clan waited out the storm atop a pillar of stone.
When the storm cleared Shrike found that only a third of his clan remained, but the mirror pack had also been lost in the storm. They had been saved, but their story did not end here. As the clan was preparing to return to the land they were greeted by voice in their minds.
“Fear not little dragons, I am not a threat.”
The clan looked around, confused and frightened by the strange voice, which continued.
“I am the god of this land, and your flight through my storm has proven you worthy of this land, which you shall inherit, and gifts to allow you and your descendants to live on the land you have earned and protect it from the unworthy. Now close your eyes and the change will begin.”
When the dragons opened their eyes, they found that their wings had grown much larger, allowing them to fly and glide for much longer distances, they also had gained a new pattern on their wings, resembling the stars high above.
The clan gave themselves a new name Starshrikes, after the starry patterns on their wings and the brave dragon who had led them through the storm.

Older Starshrikes may return to lay their eggs in the protected nests of the Aviary, and elder Starshrikes will rarely come to the Aviary to teach young hatchlings the skills they need to survive. All Starshrikes will return to the Aviary once a year for a ceremony honoring the Unnamed God. At the peak of the Aviary is a shrine to both the original Starshrikes and the Unnamed God who gave them their new home. This shrine houses a representation of the Aviary made of a conductive blue crystal that resembles the pattern in Starshrike wings. This crystal is used in several ceremonies, including a coming of age ceremony. A Starshrike will also have its inherent elemental magic, however this will almost always be much weaker than in an average dragon, and will always be secondary to the Starshrike’s storm magic. The storm magic will manifest based on the birth element of the Starshrikes. The most common manifestations of Storm Magic are: Arcane: Magic Storms The storms that Arcane Starshrikes commonly call are magical in nature. They directly interfere with a dragon’s ability to summon and control their elemental magic. This makes using magic extremely difficult and dangerous for any dragon inside the storm. Physical signs of this type of storm include: uncanny stillness of the surrounding area as well as a thin pink to purple mist. Earth: Dust Storms Earth elemental affinity results in magical storms taking the shape of powerful dust or sandstorms. These render the air difficult to breathe and make it hard to see as dust and sand is blown into the eyes and mouth of dragons within the storm. These storms leave a lasting effect on the area impacted by the storm, as it leaves behind large piles of sand or dust. Fire: Infernos/Firestorms When Fire elemental affinity impacts storm magic, the results are storms of unpredictable flame. Perhaps the most uncontrollable of the Starshrike’s storm magic, it is by far the most dangerous to the Starshrike controlling the storm. Because of this, Fire Affinity Starshrikes often spend more time training at the Aviary, often in the company of elder fire affinity Starshrikes and water affinity Starshrikes who can be used to bring the fires under control. Ice: Blizzards The blizzards summoned by ice affinity Starshrikes are colder and more violent than those that rage across the Southern Icefields, they may also contain hail or sleet, and in elder Starshrikes with ice affinity, these blizzards may even be thundersnows. Light: Solar Storms Solar Storms called by Light Affinity Starshrikes are indicated by an intensifying of the sunlight in the affected area, often causing extreme discomfort in non-Light dragons. Periodic flashes of extremely bright light can cause temporary blindness and disorientation in non-light dragons and helps light affinity Starshrikes to escape from foes. Lightning: Thunderstorms Lightning affinity Starshrikes were blessed by the Unnamed God with the power of the raging storm that first brought them to the Aviary. Though the powerful thunderstorms that these Starshrikes can call down are very violent but also very short-lived, the length a Starshrike with Lightning Affinity can maintain the magic depends largely on the age of the Starshrike and their experience with magic. Though this is true of most Starshrikes, it is especially true for lightning Starshrikes as their magic is the shortest lived of the summoned storms, lasting a few hours at the absolute strongest. Nature: Locust Swarms Nature affinity Starshrikes’ storm magic does not summon traditional storms, rather they summon swarms of locusts and other destructive insects. Nature Starshrikes may also have stronger base elemental affinity than other Starshrikes. Plague: Acid Rainstorms Plague Starshrikes tend to manifest their storm magic in the form of acidic rain. These storms are the second shortest storms and also fairly dangerous. Plague affinity Starshrikes, like fire affinity Starshrikes, spend extra time training at the Aviary before they venture out into the world. The reason for this is that the Plague affinity acid storms result in acid rain that scorches the wings and skin of those who fly through it, only plague dragons might be immune to this. Shadow: Fog burst Though shadow affinity Starshrike’s storm calls down a thick fog or shadowy mist that obscure the vision and block the sun for several hours when used. Water: Rainstorms Water storm magic tends to take the form of rainstorms. These storms are very in length but are among the longest lived on the storms summoned by Starshrikes lasting about 4 days. They are very self-explanatory, but differ in intensity depending on the Starshrikes age, running from light rain to intense downpours. Wind: Windstorms Wind Starshrike’s storm magic manifests in the form of whirlwinds and windstorms. These make flying exceptionally difficult for dragons not used to flying in high winds, however this does not bother Starshrikes with their larger wings. These windstorms have come to be used during the Festival of the Unnamed God (the yearly ceremony honoring the Unnamed God) alongside water affinity Starshrike’s Rainstorms to make complicated race courses that young Starshrikes may fly mimic the desperate flight that their ancestors made safely. The result of this pairing is a Starshrike with a smaller wingspan and less control over their storm magic. The other way that A lesser Starshrike can be made is that a Stormshrike dared to make the difficult crossing flight from Sornieth to the Aviary during a natural storm. Upon arriving, they complete a ritual to unlock the abilities that lay dormant within them and may transform into A Starshrike. * (*For more information on this ritual see Stormshrike section ) however regardless of which type of Lesser Starshrike they are, they are always carefully trained before being allowed to meet other Starshrikes, especially Greater Starshrikes, as they may be challenged, either through a fight or a race, both of which require great physical strength. The direct descendants of the original Starshrike Clan, they have the most intense blue wing markings with matching blue eyes. Greater Starshrikes have the biggest wings of all variants of Starshrike. Greater Starshrikes also have the most powerful of storm magic. This variant nearly always returns to the Aviary to nest, or If they lay their eggs elsewhere, they always transport them to the safety of the aviary to hatch.

Lesser Starshrikes are the result of two different situations.
The first possible outcome that leads to lesser Starshrikes is that a Greater Starshrike took a mate that was not of the original clan.
(*For more information on this ritual see Stormshrike section )
however regardless of which type of Lesser Starshrike they are, they are always carefully trained before being allowed to meet other Starshrikes, especially Greater Starshrikes, as they may be challenged, either through a fight or a race, both of which require great physical strength.

The Brilliant Starshrikes are the rarest of all Starshrikes, a newly discovered variation on the breed that has only begun occurring since the Bounty of the Elements. Though what causes a Brilliant Starshrike to be born is largely unknown the phenomenon is extremely rare. From what has been observed of Brilliant Starshrikes, they manifest only storm magic, though it is much more unstable and more powerful than average storm magic. Newly gathered information also notes that the abnormalities in their appearance is linked to over-exposure to their birth element, resulting in differing appearances across this variant. They have been sorted into light and dark variants based off their main body plumage color.
A warning to all Starshrike parents that find a Brilliant in their nests: Their variant of Storm magic may manifest in unusual ways!

Stormshrikes are born when Lesser Starshrikes take mates amongst dragons. The result is Wildclaws born with slightly larger wingspans than average, with scales that crackle with storm magic.
