Information:
The phenomenon of birthstone wyrms has only recently begun to be dissected and understood. While they have been found in all corners of Sornieth, their origins remain a mystery. There are few known truths:
Nests in such locations such as the Crystal Pools have a higher chance of producing birthstone nests and hatchlings but there is no guarantee. It is more likely that an entire nest will be crystallized, including the immediate surrounding area. These usually occur overnight and are almost always shocking to the expecting parents. Though a few intrepid (or unscrupulous) explorers may lay nests specifically in an attempt to encourage crystalization of their offspring - it's unclear if this is considered genetic manipulation at a scientific or arcane level, and thus if it goes against dragonkind ethics.
Being made of crystal and mineral, Birthstone Wyrms have hard, glass-like bodies and are not easily injured. Many Birthstone Wyrms become natural fighters, finding they can protect their teams easier than those dragons with a vulnerable hide. That isn't to say they are only fighters: on the contrary, there seem to be just as many Birthstone Wyrms who primp and preen, shining their crystalized scales to sparkle in the sunlight, adorning themselves with jewels, silks, and other treasures that accent their unique appearance.

- a crystal hoarding dragon may bring home a crystal for their collection, only to have it hatch
- if dragons lay their nests in a crystallized area, normal eggs have a small chance to not only absorb the element but the properties of the crystals around them
