HTR-4 woke up slowly but surely, blinking her optics open to the sight of a scrapyard. A large rusted chain sat a few yards away, and junk scattered the yard like wildflowers, weeds cropping up here and there.
She moved her head slightly to the left, tensing her entire body to take stock of her systems.
Limbs functioning at 95%, wings at 80%.
Her head felt heavy when she tried to lift it. She attempted to activate her eyes’ magic sensors.
Nothing.
HTR-4 furrowed her brows and attempted to activate her eyes again. Still nothing.
Heat sensors came next, then night vision, and finally infrared. All negative.
All she had left was her normal vision, and even that was slightly fuzzy, as if static had dropped over her field of view.
A sound caught her attention, and she scrambled to sit up straight, ready to report her functions to her superiors.
A spiral came into view, wavering in and out of view, as if she had trouble keeping her body into view. The spiral’s eyes widened as they caught sight of HTR-4.
“I found someone!” they called, voice unmistakably female. HTR-4 heard scrambling come from behind piles of junk, and soon she was being surrounded by no less than five dragons.
The spiral dipped her head in greeting. “Hello, my name is Ionn,” she said. “I am part of FL\GHT.”
HTR-4 blinked. She had never heard of this… FL\GHT before. Before she could open her mouth to ask, however, the spiral – Ionn – continued.
“I am sorry to say that you have been deemed defective,” she said, her front pairs of wings drooping slightly. “You have been scrapped.”
A ringing started up in HTR-4’s ears. She knew exactly what happened to scrapped androids.
“Am… I… dead?” she asked slowly; it seemed her voice wasn’t in full working order, either.
Ionn shook her head, but as she opened her mouth one of the others, a guardian, spoke up.
“We have to go,” he said. “We’ve been here for too long already.” He stepped forward and dipped his head. “Greetings. My name is Jalon; may I carry you?”
HTR-4 nodded. She had no idea where she was being taken, but she did know one thing.
She had been given a second chance. She would not waste it.
Hetira, or HTR-4 as she was previously known, is an android that was scrapped in favor of a newer model. The dragons who did so weren’t gentle, and she suffers a permanent case of visual snow as a result.
After recovery, she was brought back to the Lightwatch Clan by Ionn, with whom she had formed a deep friendship during her repairs. She soon decided that she wanted to join FL\GHT, and spent the better part of a year travelling across Sornieth, searching for the headquarters. Ionn was forbidden from assisting her.
She became a Field Agent, often taking up missions to rescue other scrapped androids like herself. She is commonly partnered with Ionn, in part due to her competent sense of direction.
