Caustic Containers, A Multi-Flight Subspecies
Lore | The Institutes | Registration/Pins | Registered Containers | Ping Lists
Scattered somewhere between the Scarred Wasteland and the Viridian Labyrinth, there lies a subspecies of dragons intent on clearing, containing, and eradicating disease from Sornieth. These dragons, now known as Caustic Containers, are a delicate combination of both dragonkind and developing technology from the Asmodeus Institute. At their best, these dragons are able to internalize toxins and dangerous materials with little to no harm to themselves.
Unfortunately, as these dragons are merely prototypes until the technology composing them is furthered, their forms can be prone to mutation and their capsules to breakage. In the event that a container breaks, its contents will not be spilled. However, the dragon whose container has broken will quickly fall ill. Below, files on each specimen describe the function, temperament, and genetic makeup of each Caustic Container.
Subject: Caustic Containers, Unspilled
Notes: Dr. Nyota Dei, head of the Asmodeus Institute, designed Caustic Containers as a way of combining her interests as a devoted follower of the Gladekeeper and those stemming from her background in molecular biology. In an attempt to help those in Sornieth who were unable to clear toxic waste from their surroundings as well as those who were sick, she genetically modified a dragon that was capable of internalizing dangerous materials and curing disease.
These dragons, now referred to as Unspilled Caustic Containers, have metallic bodies that act as a barrier between internalized toxins and the environment as well as specialized capsules to contain and neutralize any ingested biohazardous materials. Dragons who act as Caustic Containers are often methodical, calm, calculated, and highly intelligent. Each carries their own set of licenses to practice medicine and handle biohazardous waste.

Subject: Caustic Containers, Leaking
Notes: As the technology that helped to create Caustic Containers is still undergoing research, some Caustic Containers are susceptible to leakage or even breakage. Though the mechanisms are unknown, Leaking and Spilled caustic containers never contaminate the environment but always themselves. Once their specialized capsule has begun to leak, any internalized toxins begin to crystallize on their metallic “skin” and form opalescent patches of radioactive material.
All Leaking Caustic Containers are required to return to the lab at once for medical attention. Often times, those whose sequestered chemicals have begun to leak will not even notice as the toxins can make them sluggish and cause hallucinations. Because of this, the Asmodeus Institute urges any civilians to use the Defective Containers Hotline should they see a Leaking Caustic Container wandering around freely.

Subject: Caustic Containers, Spilled
Notes: Some Caustic Containers can be damaged beyond repair. Once the chemicals from their specialized capsule have been fully absorbed into their body, their bones begin to glow a sickly, radiant green that can be seen externally. Unfortunately, there is no known cure (yet devised) to reverse the amount of radiation and poisoning that comes as a result of capsule breakage. It is currently unclear why the symptoms that plague leaking containers are able to be reversed/cured, but those of spilled containers are not. Because of this, spilled Caustic Containers are often quarantined for further study at the Asmodeus Institute.
Spilled Caustic Containers that have been observed in the lab are often thoughtless, erratic, and lack any previous sense of self they once contained. Unlike their unspilled counterparts, they have no interest in containing disease and often seek to spread it. As such, they can usually be found wandering the Scarred Wasteland in search of new territory to establish themselves. Should they make it this far without being captured by the specialists of the Asmodeus Institute, they are often enlisted by Dr. Isra Knyght, head of the competing Zytonek Institute, for more nefarious purposes.

Big Thanks to both @StormwaterSiren and @Quamosthy for their help brainstorming for these funky little scientists!
