Welcome to The Snake Den, a hatchery/subspecies hub dedicated to breeding strictly Python/Morph dragons! It all started with my XXY coral pair, Pathogen and Wake. Now, I'm branching out to a wider range of colors and tertiary genes. All dragons in the Hypomelanistic Subspecies will be hatched from Plague, Ice, Arcane, Earth, Fire or Shadow nests. Any others not a part of the subspecies will most likely be hatched from my Plague nests, unless otherwise requested. Not quite albinos, Hypomelanistic dragons retain some of the black pigmentation within their scales, giving them a cream, dark pink, or orange glow. These dragons have small, smooth scales that expand with their bodies whenever they indulge in larger meals. Hypos, for short, will nest down anywhere in Sornieth. They do prefer warmer climates, but will accept artificial heat sources such as fires and fellow dragons for warmth. Hypos cannot survive for long in the cold, so if they settle down in colder flights like Ice, they will most likely never venture from the warm confines of their home. Unlike their warm blooded brethren, Hypos are coldblooded and require heat to regulate their body temperature. They have tendencies to dig down into damp soil to cool off if they are too warm or perch upon rocks and warm sands to warm their bellies with wings outstretched like vultures. Often, they will become grumpy if their sunning/cooling sessions are disturbed. These dragons are often seen gorging themselves until their bellies are outstretched and then going for weeks after without a meal. Their colors range from deep pinks to nearly brown blacks. Some have wonderful contrasting bellies or strange glowing horns believed to be caused by an inherent magical source. Unlike their albino cousins, Hypos do not contain any yellow hues. Their eyes don't seem to have any effect on determining their placement among the species other than the fact that they lack the normal pigment that most dragons have. Each dragon has their own personality, but they tend to be wary of new situations regardless of how confident they are. Each variation have their own little quirks. All tend to be found between stages of pure leisure and then random bursts of energy once their bodies have regulated. These surges can be shown in either extreme concentration on a task until it's complete, the sudden urge to run around or bad cases of fidgeting if they're unable to get out and burn off their energy. These are only a few examples. Each dragon has a different method of blowing off some steam.

Genes: Python and Morph are required.
Stained is preffered, but Underbelly, Glimmer, Runes and Capsule arise in some dragons.

Eye color:
Plague or Ice are preferred. Certain strains may have Arcane, Shadow, Fire or Earth eyes.

Breed: Any! Hypomelanism can occur in all dragons.

Registered Hypomelanistic Dragons

Stained: These are the typical Hypomelanistic dragons that define their subspecies. Their genes have manifested in a way that adds a soft overtone to their smooth scales. They have the smoothest scales out of any of their brethren and have a slight shine when they're exposed to the sun. If one has the opportunity to touch one, they're described as being almost wet and silky.

Underbelly: Those with underbelly are not seen as undesirable, but a beautiful variation of the norm. Their bellies can be dappled with multiple pink through brown colors, looking like a colorful ear of dried, red corn. They have long, horizontal bands on their bellies, making it easier to pig out on their favorite meals. Many of this variant enjoy having others of their kind around and can be spied piled up in large, sleepy piles. If one starts to go into an energy burst, the rest will quickly follow, causing a chaotic mess for about five minutes. Many lairs have learned to take these sessions in stride and many hatchlings enjoy taking part in the fun!

Glimmer: Dragons who have shining horns, bellies and claws are said to have tapped into a magical well that most of their kind do not possess. This happens when eggs are laid close to sites of powerful energy or magical places. Many hopeful Hypo parents will lay their eggs close to these sources in the hopes that their hatchlings will inherit these wells of power. Many become sorcerers and healers, using their powers for good or take to the darker side and dabble in ancient magics that have been forgotten by many. Either way, they are revered amongst the subspecies.

Capsule: This is an odd variant for Hypos. The sloshing liquid within their bellies is thought to have been caused by some sort of mutated gene that didn't quite make it to glimmer status. They have a certain amount of magic, but nowhere near as much those with glimmer. Many eggs that are laid near magical sites are born with capsule as well. These dragons tend to take to herbalism and mysticism a bit easier than others.

*NEW* Runes: This new variant is not a natural occurrence for Hypos. These dragons are jealous of their cousins that are born with magic. In an attempt to elevate themselves to the coveted positions of glimmer and capsule dragons, they have sought out a not so honest solution. Whether they make a pact with a demon, join a cult, etc., they have managed to earn a 'blessing' of magic. This has stamped a permanent mark upon their scales. In their attempt to be accepted by their community, they have ostracized themselves with their dark deeds. If you are not born with the gift, you are not worthy to obtain it. Most runed Hypos find solace in others that have the same markings and form their own communities away from the main group.

@SpicyTunaRoll I've got two dragons that I plan on changing their genes, and they're XXX blush which is super cool, but they have lightning eyes, I now it's not on the subspecies requirements, but their kids will have arcane eyes. I was curious about any possibility of them or their kids being able to be in this subspecies?

I checked them out and I think your coatl's eyes are close enough to the lighter end of the blue scale and your bog's eyes are ice! I don't see why it would be a problem to add them all to the subspecies :) Also, if you wanted to save yourself a little time and money geneing them, I just put my blush capsule pair on a shadow nest. They'll be ready in 5 or so days.

I'm so happy you like it! ;^;

That's how I've felt with all of my snake babies. It really makes them special when you put all that work into it! :) Just let me know when you've finished geneing them so I can add them to the Registered list!
