Lore:
In Shadow Bay on a moonlit night there was a cavern on the ocean. Filled with dragon nests and tidal pools, the moonlight illuminated bioluminescent jelly fish and glowing blue-green algae in the water, and the cave walls were covered in bioluminescent fungi and worms, and the air was filled with glowing fireflies. There was an earthquake knocking eggs out of the nests. They rolled into the tidal pools as fungi and glow worms fell down hitting fireflies as they dropped. The tidal pools filled with all these bioluminescent organisms, which all covered the eggs imbuing them with glowing bioluminescence and patterns of the ocean from being rocked in crashing waves of the tidal pools during the earthquake. The bioluminescence infused the eggs in several ways. Some infused the wings so that they glowed on dark bodies. In other eggs, due to minerals that bonded to the egg in the cave and water, the bioluminescence bonded to the body as gems, or as striations of lines of color, like minerals found in the earth. In another variety the bioluminescence infused the egg as runes, and these very rare dragons become lair mages. So there are several varieties of
Luciferins due to this, 1) Pars (wings) and 2) Gemma (gems), 3) Magus (mage). Their bioluminescence glows brightly in the dark night, sparking bright as they fly in the air. Due to the variety of nests in the lair that night
Luciferins can be any species, but they have specific traits and colors related to their miraculous and unique birthing event, which include bioluminescence and patterns and colors emulating the ocean and waves at night in moonlight.
Luciferin is a word distantly based on the Latin root lucifer, or “light-bringer”, and is a generalized word for the light-emitting compound found in bioluminescence organisms. The wings of
Luciferin dragons contain a small-molecule substrate that can undergo a special enzyme-catalyzed oxidation. This creates an excited state of the molecule that then emits light as it decays to its ground state, thus giving
Luciferin dragon wings the bioluminescence. See below for details on the two types of
Luciferin dragons.

Varieties:
There are three varieties of Luciferin Bioluminescent Dragons:
1:
Luciferin Pars ( Light-bringer Wings)
2:
Luciferin Gemma (Light-bringer Gems)
3:
Luciferin Magus (Light-bringer Mages)

Genes:
Primary genes: Ripple, Bar, Speckle, Falcon, and Jupiter. Poison in the color Midnight has also been seen in Luciferin, but only that color. Poison in any other color is not a true Luciferin. A Luciferin with Midnight Poison is very rare. Cherub in the color Abyss has also been seen in Luciferins, but only in that color. Cherub in any other color is not a true Luciferin. A Luciferin with Abyss Cherub is also very rare. Note these are all genes with patterns that emulate the moonlit ocean waves and tidal pools at night. Finally, note that Luciferin Magus, only come in Obsidian or Abyss primary and secondaries, they are always XXY. They do not come in any other colors or variations, and are very rare.
Secondary genes: Hypnotic, Current, Freckle, Peregrine, Hex, Daub, Saturn, and Facet - all patterns that can emulate the moonlit ocean waves and tidal pools at night.
Tertiary gene:
- Luciferin Pars: Crackle or Smoke
- Luciferin Gemma: Gembond, Contour, Crackle, Smoke, Scales
- Luciferin Magus: Runes.

Colors
Luciferin Pars:
This variety has dark water-like patterns on dark primary and tertiary colors, and a glowing bioluminescent secondary (wings) also with water-like patterned genes due to the crashing waves in the tidal pools. (See examples below)
Primary colors: Obsidian to Shadow, and Abyss or Phthalo.
Secondary color: Radioactive, Cyan, Carrot, Vermillion, Grapefruit, Orchid, Fuchsia, and Ice
Tertiary colors in: Obsidian to Shadow, and Abyss or Phthalo
Example Luciferin Pars Dragons :
Luciferin Gemma:
This variety has dark water-like patterned genes on dark primary and secondary colors, and a glowing bioluminescent tertiary in mineral and gem striations and patterns (from the bonding of the minerals to some eggs in the tidal pools).
Primary colors: Obsidian to Shadow, and Abyss or Phthalo
Secondary color: Obsidian to Shadow, and Abyss or Phthalo
Tertiary colors in: Radioactive, Cyan, Carrot, Vermillion, Grapefruit, Orchid, Fuchsia, and Ice
Example Luciferin Gemma dragons:
Luciferin Magus:
This variety has dark water-like patterned primary and secondary genes in only the darkest colors (Obsidian and Abyss), and a glowing bioluminescent tertiary in runes. This rare
Luciferin will be the mage of a lair when they reach adulthood.
Luciferin Magus, the runed mages, are always XXY. They do not come in any other colors or variations, and are very rare.
Primary colors: Obsidian or Abyss
Secondary color: Obsidian or Abyss
Tertiary colors in Runes: Radioactive, Cyan, Carrot, Vermillion, Grapefruit, Orchid, Fuchsia, and Ice
Example Luciferin Magus dragons:
