WELCOME TO
« Sapphire Shores »
HOME OF THE TSALOÄFI'TU

Founded by Tseluméri and Khelebmír, children of Light and Water, their clan travels the shallow sun-lit ocean just outside the Lightweaver’s domain. As the seasons change, so too does their location, preferring to stay on the move than call a single den their home.

They are the pod of Sapphire Shores – the Tsaloäfi’tu.

Beacons of the Wandering Eye;
Seekers of Lost Knowledge.

– Origin –
When the Tidelord disappeared, the Lightweaver chose acolytes from the Beacon of the Radiant Eye to ensure her light and influence would spread beyond the Sunbeam Ruins. It was here that the Lightweaver named their purpose: to be her Beacons and Wander the World, to go where her Radiance cannot, and to Seek things Lost to Time… and those beyond the sight of the gods.

Her Beacons of the Wandering Eye.

Three acolytes chose to explore the vast ocean, swayed by a Waterborn Fathom named Khelebmír.

The Mother of Light was pleased a child of Water would welcome her children to his side. Each acolyte was given a mote of her infinite light and reshaped to suit the world beneath the waves.

Tseluméri was the First. Together, she and Khelebmír would search the depths, called by a song they could not ignore.

Anzafélu and Behansíku soon followed, though they preferred the sunny waters of the Sunbeam Ruins – the Sapphire Shores – to call their home.

The role of Mother is very important to the Tsaloäfi’tu. Born to the Mother of Light and Truth – the Lightweaver – female pod members have elevated ranks within the clan. This is doubly so if they have successfully raised a hatchling to adulthood. Her knowledge helps the clan grow stronger with each passing year. As such, while they may designate leaders to care for all, it’s through the Clan Mothers (séyan’tu) that difficult choices are made.

100 Lore Questions by Unlovable

1 to 18: Basic Info, Other Clans, Beastclans
  • What is the name of your clan?
Sapphire Shores, though the clan refer to themselves as Tsaloäfi’tu.
  • Is it considered a clan? A tribe? A group? Other?
A clan, technically, but considering they are made up of Fathom and Undertide breeds, “pod” is a closer match.
  • How did the name originate?
Sapphire Shores is the trade tongue name. Tsaloäfi’tu comes from their group’s language, meaning the “Pod of Sapphire Shores”.
  • What form of leadership runs your clan? A council? A King/Queen/Other? If not, how does the clan operate?
The Clan Mothers (Séyan’tu) form a council that decides what the pod will do, where to go, difficult decisions, etc. They guide the pod together. The traditional “leadership” found in other clans function more like deity intermediaries than leaders for the Tsaloäfi’tu.
  • What is the main income of your clan? Is there anyone that manages the money?
The Tsaloäfi’tu don’t hoard treasure like other clans, so common forms of money are highly unlikely to be found in the clan.
  • Are certain things more valuable than currency that would be used as such?
Knowledge! Especially potential leads for forgotten ruins left by dragonkind or otherwise.
  • Is your clan dedicated to one craft or few, OR do they specialize in many things?
Water-proof spell scrolls, which can harness magic Light motes by non-Lightborn. Though these aren’t really made as something to trade as valuables; they’re more utilitarian in function among the Tsaloäfi’tu and mainly used by curious hatchlings or Waterborn adults.
  • Does your clan trade with other clans for wares, or do they prefer to keep to themselves?
Interaction with other clans is common, though they are exceedingly self-sufficient.
  • Are there any enemies to your clan? If so, how?
No, the Tsaloäfi’tu have no specific enemies. And if negotiating with aggressors fails there’s always the Five D’s: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge.
  • Does your clan squabble with these enemies or other clans often?
  • Does your clan have many allies? If so, how do they usually interact with each other?
Most interactions occur when the Tsaloäfi’tu are in Sapphire Shores proper or other shallow waters. It’s pretty much just a chance to meet up with friends and chat.
  • Are there treaties or contracts involved in alliances or is it verbal/based off of trust?
Kinship ties are the most common pact between aquatic clans. Otherwise, verbal agreements.
  • Does your clan get along with Beastclans or are they all enemies?
Of all the Beastclans, the Tsaloäfi’tu are the most familiar with various merfolk pods and their cities, and will regularly make stops to catch up with friends. Other non-aggressive Beastclan have a neutral standing within the clan, though they are not going to specifically seek them out.
  • Does your clan accept Beastclan members? Why or why not?
Yes, though not as many actually join due to the groups’ constant travel. However, it’s pretty common to see a lot of merfolk with the pod while nesting at a beach, due to the increased time spent in one place and the vigilant protection from Fathom and Undertide parents guarding all of the bín’tu (little ones in the clan/pod; hatchling/small; endearment of merfolk).
  • If yes, would they have any form of issues integrating into your clan? Would any dragons show distaste towards them?
No issues integrating outside of constant travel.
  • Is any specific race of Beastclans disliked? Or certain races seen as less than others?
Not really. The Tsaloäfi’tu mainly just interact with the merfolk.
  • Are they treated like actual Familiars?
No, if Familiars are seen as something to be owned.
  • Are there any races or animals treated as Familiars?
    No.

19 to 48: Elemental Holidays, Magic, Deities
  • Does your clan celebrate the Elemental Holidays? Why or why not?
No, mainly because they’re off exploring the oceans.
  • If yes, what do these festivities entail? Is it always monthly? Can anyone participate?
  • Is any specific element more respected than others, or one more hated than others? If so, why?
    No.
  • Is any breed of dragon more respected or more hated than others? If so, why?
No, respect is tied to (proven) knowledge and wisdom, regardless of who it comes from.
  • Can all forms of elemental magic heal?
To a point. Elements of Water, Nature, and Arcane have the greatest potential to heal serious wounds. Plague can heal, but is more likely to warp the healed flesh into something new, which may be considered disfiguring by other Flights. Other elements might only heal lesser wounds.
  • Is all magic absolutely elemental (strictly to the in-game lore magics) or are there general forms of magic any dragon can use? If so, how do they work?
No, there’s magic like glamours and enthrallment that are tied to an individual dragon’s core instead of an element. Any dragon can learn this magic, though it may be less effective on elements with a type disadvantage to the caster. These particular spells require a constant stream of magic from the caster, and have the potential to be fatal if one doesn’t keep track of their remaining magic.
  • Is any certain magic more powerful than others?
Magic from deities and their Blessed dragons are stronger than other dragons.
  • Are there such things as enchantments or curses? How would they work?
Yes! Minor enchantments and curses require very little magic from the caster, requiring more physical ingredients to fulfill the spell’s charge point. These spells won’t last forever, though! Stronger spells will have more dire requirements, but will last longer. Some of the strongest can last generations within a dragon’s lineage!
  • Are tomes important to magic users? Why or why not?
Tomes, no. Other items such as waterproof scrolls, yes, for better streamlined swimming than if using bulky books. (Also, waterproofing glued spines is more trouble than it’s worth.)
  • Are certain things or places able to amplify one's magical abilities?
Yes! There’s a few places that the Tsaloäfi’tu have noticed an enhancement of their magic while exploring the Deep. The most important is a cavern accessed on the abyssal plain where magic from the world’s core seeks out the weaker members of the pod and strengthens them. But reaching the cavern is a trial itself, as other beings have also noticed the effects and lurk nearby.
  • Do dragons have to be in certain conditions to be able to perform their magic? (Ex. An Ice or Nature dragon would not be able to perform their abilities in the Ashfall Wastes.)
Magic is less effective when in a flight with a type advantage, but it’s still able to be used. (With the exception of Fire underwater: while flames are impossible, superheated water bullets can be formed! It’s just not recommended to use a breath attack where you can’t breathe…)
  • Can a dragon's magic become naturally more powerful over time or would they need any form of training to help them become more powerful?
A bit of both! Dragon’s are born with different starting “baselines” due to their deity’s Blessing, but can still find ways to get stronger over the course of their lives.
  • In-game lore says only water can be seers, but can any dragon be able to do the same regardless of element? How do they receive future prophecies without the influence of a Deity?
Light flight has Truth-Seers, magically gifted dragons that are able to see into a dragon’s heart and soul to perceive who they are in that specific moment. They are not able to predict the future or see into the past, though. That’s Water flight’s domain, normally. Within the _ however, Waterborn are no longer linked to the Tidelord. This connection is replaced with a mysterious link to the Deep and the formation of Seekers: dragons with an uncanny ability to find things long thought lost and resist manipulations.
  • Does your clan have any dragons dedicated to researching and studying magic?
No one specifically, but they’re all fairly curious about it to the point of having theoretical (and practical) discussions during travel.
  • What about a court magister or someone who is very knowledgeable in magic/arcane that gives advice or helps with magic/arcane matters?
Yes! This is usually left to Truth-Seer’s and Seeker’s with the highest possible deity Blessing, as they are more likely to be able to fully assist podmates having trouble.
  • Can dragons use magic to shape or create things?
Yes! Light magic is commonly used for illusions (either incorporeal or tangible), providing light and/or warmth, and non-verbal communication (bioluminescence on skin or light shows in the air).
  • Can one's magic influence or read someone's mind?
Yes! Lightborn, especially those within the Tsaloäfi’tu, have the ability to enthrall other beings. They just prefer to limit that particular magic toward attacking monsters so the pod can escape.
  • Do your dragons use magic to attack others in combat? Can any element engage in magic combat?
The Tsaloäfi’tu use magic to avoid combat, wherever possible. Magical combat includes, but is not limited to, the in-site elemental battle items (breath, bolt, etc).
  • Do your dragons worship the deities?
Yes, though they don’t preach to others about it.
  • Do dragons worship only their deity of their element, or would they worship another deity, if at all?
Just the Lightweaver, their Mother, for the Tsaloäfi’tu.
  • Are there dragons that don't believe in the deities or hate them? If so, why?
Not among the Tsaloäfi’tu, since their origin is directly tied to the Lightweaver.
  • Are there dragons dedicated to convincing others to serve their deities?
    No.
  • What is exalting to your clan/dragons exactly? Is it noble? Foolish?
Exaltation is the beginning to becoming an Acolyte at the Lightweaver’s Beacon of the Radiant Eye shrine. As they are an offshoot of these Acolytes (Beacons of the Wandering Eye), being Exalted is an honor to serve the Mother of Light and Truth directly. The Tsaloäfi’tu Beacons are far more independent, even though they do report findings to the Lightweaver.
  • How does one go about exalting another? Is it a ritual? A process? Does one decide for themself and leave? Does anyone else help?
Exaltee’s are chosen by the Lightweaver and summoned to her side. This can be done over great distances. The whole clan celebrates this Calling by traveling together back to land to see off the newest Exaltee to the Radiant Eye.
  • Where would one go to be exalted?
Lightweaver’s shrine, at the Beacon of the Radiant Eye.
  • Is it considered blasphemous or crazy to not worship one's elemental deity?
Not worshipping a dragon’s deity is baffling to the Tsaloäfi’tu, but they don’t interfere with another’s choice.
  • Do the worship of the deities play a big role in your clan?
Worship of the Lightweaver (or Meriséyava’tu) is pretty important, as she created their clan founders from her Acolytes.
  • Do any of your clan members hate the Tidelord or are scared because he vanished? Are any helping to search?
Waternborn Tsaloäfi’tu are uneasy about his disappearance, and are aided by the rest of the pod to help search during their travels. But the longer they search, the less connected to his magic they become, and the less time is spent actively searching.
  • Do dragons that come back from exalting seen as higher or lesser for leaving/being kicked out?
Dragons that return from Exaltation (gen 1’s) are sent by the gods to help the clans. For Lightborn, these are previous Acolytes of the Radiant Eye, and play a major role within the Tsaloäfi’tu. For Waterborn… it’s trickier, due to the Tidelord’s disappearance and the fact that Waterborn Tsaloäfi’tu instead share a connection to the Deep, the ocean beyond the continent.
  • Does your clan or any dragon do any form of sacrificial ritual for their deity? Or offer any items?
Knowledge and other discovered secrets are shared with the Lightweaver at the Radiant Eye every so often, when the Tsaloäfi’tu deem they have gathered enough to make the flight worth it.
