Welcome to my lore thread, the designated place where I yap about all the stories in my head and eventually get them all organized and pull everything together. The first couple posts are going to be general intros to each group in my lore, and after that I write anything that comes to mind; random lore, short stories and other stuff. My lore does take heavy inspiration from Skyborn first and Guardians Of Ga'Hoole second. You don't have to have read these books to understand what's happening in my lair, but if you have you'll probably notice a lot of references!
I'd prefer it if you didn't post here: if you want to tell me something about the thread or theoretically complement my writing skills please comment on my userpage.

My lore is canon-friendly for the most part, excluding a few differences. I've got all of them laid out here for easy reference.
• Dragons can only wield magic aligned with their inborn element, something that no amount of studies or prayer to the deities will change this.
• All dragon species can eat any of the four food types that exist in-game; their canon diets are simply preferences. For example, a fae is perfectly capable of eating meat or seafood, but most will prefer insects. Of course there are always exceptions, and it's not uncommon to find skydancers with a taste for meat or an obelisk who enjoys plants.
• I do NOT use the official size chart: all dragon breeds are roughly the size of a Wildclaw. Imperials, Guardians and Ridgebacks are slightly larger and Fae, Veilspun and Spirals are slightly smaller. Please keep this in mind if drawing my dragons!
• Airships exist and are used as a form of long-distance aerial travel. They aren't used very much outside of Wind and Lightning however, and most dragons still view flying as the more efficient way to get around.
There's also the other things that weren't really addressed in FR canon, but I choose to elaborate on because they are relevant to my lore.
• There are leylines running through a dragon's body just like the ones in Sornieth. They have the exact same function, which is carrying magic. The largest convergences of these leylines in the dragon body are the heart (which is believed to keep the dragon alive and what gives them a soul), the wings (which facilitate flight even in breeds such as Gaolers and Snappers, and function as a secondary magic storage aside from the heart), and the head (which is believed to be what gives dragons their famed intellect and cunning).
• A primal-eyed dragon is born when there is too much magic circulating in an unborn hatchling's body and its leylines are overloaded. When the existing convergences are not enough to hold the hatchling's innate magic, it is forced to make its own hotspot - this is usually located directly behind the eyes. When the dragon hatches the magic searches for an exit into the outside world, which manifests as the primal eyes we see.

Dragons from all flights were sent out into the eastern sea and told to fly until they found land. Calculations said there should be land somewhere out there, land that could have housed a center for exploration and innovation. It ended up being anything but. A young fathom, too young to run what can only be described as an outpost, does her best to keep Stormbreach from dissolving into lawlessness. But even she has her secrets, her reasons to be away from the mainland, secrets that could get her killed. Nobody on the island is entirely pure of heart, and so far away from Sornieth no one would be able to hear a cry for help.

The Nature dragonflight didn't exactly hold a high spot on the 'Most Potential To End Sornieth' list. That honor went to Arcane — another great explosion, or perhaps Lightning — a new piece of tech gone too far. Perhaps it would be Plague — some strain or other overtaking the world. No one could have foreseen a skydancer who claimed to be the Gladekeeper's divine instrument, a skydancer who turned the ground under dragonkind's feet against them. Most dragons were killed or captured. Some were twisted beyond recognition, seeds shoved down their throats and turned into mindless horrors that blurred the line between fauna and flora. Of course there are stragglers, dragons who refused to let their bodies die and decompose to feed Nature's conquest, but in the end it remains to be seen: which will be stronger, dragon or plant?
