The wind howled and pulled at his wings. It was bitter cold, but he could feel the heat of the fire on his back. He could feel the burning pain as it licked at his heels, encouraging him to go faster, faster. He stretched out his stride, running for his life from the fire. But the wind did not help. He skidded and swerved as the fire leapt onto the path in front of him. He almost fell, but regained his balance in time to throw himself out of the way of a falling branch. The dry yellow grass of the light flight didn't help matters either. It was the perfect kindling for the fire. The fire that showed no sign of stopping. He kept running. He could barely manage to breathe. The heat of the air burned his throat, and there was little oxygen for his lungs to filter out. THen the ground disappeared beneath his feet, and Noel saw no more.

The first thing he was aware of was the pain. Dull aching in his bones. As far as he could tell, nothing was broken. He pried open his eyes. He was on a shore. He could feel the sand digging into his skin. Stiffly, he managed to get himself to his feet. A cool breeze wafted off the water. It ruffled his fur, lifting it from his skin. He shook himself to get rid of the sand in his coat. He looked around, baffled until he remembered. Remembered the screams, the accusations. Remembered the fire. Remembered running home, trying to warn his parents, trying to tell them to run. Remembered being too late. Remembered lashing out when he was cornered by the townsfolk and accused of starting the fire. Remembered the terror on their faces as he snapped. Remembered seeing no surprise in their accusing eyes. He sat down heavily on the sand and stared at the flaky dried blood coating his hands. A pang of fear ran through him. Raw, primal. He scrambled back from the water's edge as if he could run from his actions. He shook his head, bringing himself back to his senses. He had to run. If anyone had survived the fire, they would come for his head. He couldn't afford that. he stared out at the water. There was so much of it. There was no way he was in Light territory anymore. His best guess was that the currents had carried him into Water flight territory. He turned around, looking inland.

He shuddered. In his present state, he was in no shape to meet a monster. He stiffly got to his feet and began to trudge through the sand towards the grassy plains of Wind territory. He had to find somewhere to shelter before nightfall. Before long, he came to a place where the air turned sour, and the grass was dead and bitter smelling. Everything was tinged with gray, and Noel felt unease gnawing at him. His senses went on high alert, and he began to move more stealthily, carefully stepping to make no sound. All he could hear was the blood pounding in his ears. The air was unnaturally still, especially for the Zephyr Steppes. He heard a rustle in the tall grass, and he felt his heart stop. The dry grasses rattled like a sinister tune, and he felt sure his heart was going to leap out of is chest. He picked up his pace subconsciously. Gradually, he became aware the rustle was following him. He abandoned all pretenses of stealth and began to run. The rustling grew louder until it was the only thing he could hear. He turned o look back, just in time to see a blindingly colored figure in an even brighter cloak reaching at him with claws that gleamed like daggers. Then, he could no longer feel ground beneath him, and he dropped like a stone. He could see red rock walls rushing past him, and he managed to spread his wings, slowing his fall. The tips of his wings didn't even come close to grazing the sides of the canyon walls. He looked down, and saw the ground rushing up to meet him.
