Introduction

The fields were silent as the sun began to rise, weak yellow rays shining across the cold ground, slowly thawing the frost that had formed overnight. Here, on the western side of the Windswept Plateau, away from the warming fires of the Ashfall Waste, cold wind blows in from the Southern Icefield, making the cold winters even colder than in other parts of the realm. And as the sun rose higher in the sky, small creatures and birds began to awake, scurrying through the ground and soaring through the air. One particularly inquisitive rodent ventured a little further from it's nest, coming to a group of three very strange rocks. They were purple for crying out loud! And how strange that each one seemed so similar to the others. And as the little rodent scurried up on top of the rocks it noted that the texture was rather unlike any other rocks it had walked on before. Pausing at the top of the rock, sitting in the morning sun, the little rodent began grooming itself, running its paws over its face and head. Though a shake from the rock it was standing on made it pause, looking around fearfully. Another shake, this one stronger than the last, send it flying off back into the undergrowth towards its nest. Really, what was the world coming to? Shaking rocks?! Behind the rodent, the rock began shaking and trembling more, strange cries coming out from inside as a spider web of cracks began to blossom over the surface and after a few more energetic trembles, it cracked open, shards flying and out tumbled a tiny dragon.

The little nocturne slowly blinked his eyes open, staring around at the world bathed in the morning sun, marvelling at the clouds his breath formed. Meanwhile behind him, the other two rocks, though really the small rodent had been wrong for they were eggs all along, began rocking back and forth and burst open in sequence, one then two little nocturnes tumbling over themselves as they looked around in awe.

The three dragons huddled together for warmth as the sun rose higher in the sky, wondering where on earth they were, and if anyone might find them out here, all alone. It was very cold after all, and they were beginning to get very, very hungry.

Welcome to my Pinkerlocke thread! I'll be attempting to write a little bit of story for each day, but I can't make any promises, especially when I don't have any inspiration for that day. But I will attempt to make sure that the story always flows and makes sense to be read.

I hope you enjoy this story, and if you'd like to be pinged for updates, let me know and I'll add you to the pinglist.

Rules
Rules from this thread (modified slightly)
 • A death in the coliseum means that dragon is exalted
 • The only exception to the first rule is while I only have three dragons, the original three will be exempt from exalting Rule no longer in effect
 • If a dragon reaches level 25 it is exempt from being exalted
 • If an egg drops from the coliseum, I can choose to hatch the egg and include it in the Pinkerlocke, or sell the egg on the AH
 • Whatever item drops from Pinkerton decides what I will do that day:
Food

Coliseum time. Choose whichever team and venue you want and go for it. Running from battles, using health potions, and ending the battle streak is fine to keep dragons alive.
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches

Materials & Trinkets

Materials: Do some creative writing for your Pinkerlocke. This can be stories, both long and short, or dragon bios or anything else like that.

Trinkets: Draw some art for your Pinkerlocke. Portraits, scenes from the story, dragons and their familiars. Anything.
Familiars

Buy the cheapest dragon in the auction house of a specific breed. Use a random number generator to determine which breed you will get:
 1. Banescale
 2. Bogsneak
 3. Coatl
 4. Fae
 5. Gaoler
 6. Guardian
 7. Imperial
 8. Mirror
 9. Nocturne
 10. Pearlcatcher
 11. Ridgeback
 12. Skydancer
 13. Snapper
 14. Spiral
 15. Tundra
 16. Veilspun
 17. Wildclaw

You can choose to buy either a hatchling or a dragon, and you can choose between the first male and female (assuming they're both the same price).
Apparel

Customisation or Breeding. If customising, apply one speciality item to a dragon (gene scroll/breed scroll/eye vial/scatter scroll) If breeding, choose any two dragons. You must flip a coin for each hatchling once they hatch. If tails, the dragon is dead and you must exalt it.
Battle Item

Death streak. Flip a coin. If heads, the death streak begins. If tails, nothing happens.

Death streak rules: Randomly select 3 dragons using a random number generator. Then, select the coliseum arena that corresponds to the highest level dragon of that group. If your dragons level up while in that area, you can stay there for the whole day. Fight in that arena for 10 consecutive battles, only stopping if a dragon dies.

Sketch is also the most quick to anger out of the three, though he can usually be quite easily calmed by Doodle when the need arises, unfortunately with his hot-headed ways and Brush's stubbornness, the two find it difficult to deescalate a situation without Doodle getting involved. Despite being a hot-head, Sketch gets on well with his siblings, happy in his place of youngest, especially since he's now the largest out of the three, and also convinced he'll be the best looking out of the three too. She herself was on her Search for her Charge, though unbeknownst to the three siblings, she realised not long after meeting them that they were her Charge, or Charges to be more accurate. Though she didn't want to be overbearingly protective, and knew that they were a little wary of her at first, she hasn't told them that they are her charges, and she's well aware they can protect themselves. Still, she was grateful when the siblings let her stay with them and since then, she's lent a claw wherever she could to help them whilst also making sure they're as protected as they can be. Azami is a very softly spoken dragon, and a gentle giant; violence is a last resort for her, though she'd do anything to protect her Charges. And while she's older than the three siblings, she's happy to defer to them to make decisions and lead the way. Azami is closest with Doodle out of the three siblings, despite being close with all three of them and the two enjoying sitting together and chatting while Brush and Sketch are, more often than not, off play fighting with each other. While she's still young and inexperienced, Azami isn't entirely sure in her capabilities to protect her Charges, and it's a blow to her confidence at the moment, though she hopes she'll get better with training and practice. ----- [columns]Apparel [gamedb item=2505] - made by Azami using fallen flowers from her familiar [gamedb item=2564] - made by Azami using fallen flowers from her familiar[nextcol]Changes -[/columns]
----- [columns][nextcol]Teri [emoji=snowflake size=1] Joined: 27th January 2021 Level: 7 Familiar: -[/columns]
Teri joined the clan during their first Crystalline Gala as just a young dragon. She found the lair by accident and was invited in by Azami, the invitation being further extended for her to stay as long as she wanted. It became clear very quickly that Teri was incredibly gifted with ice magic, she seemed to have an uncanny knack to mastering every aspect of it, and it wasn't long before snow and ice started drifting around her as a culmination of her powers. Aside from this incredible gift, Teri is very quiet, speaking only when spoken to and answering in very short clipped sentences, prefering to answer in just one word if she can. Because of this, and her affinity with ice magic, the others, especially Sketch, like to joke that she's very cold, a joke which usually makes her roll her eyes. Despite being outwardly almost hostile to those around her, Teri cares deeply for the dragons that took her in, even if she doesn't express it ever. Though when she's dealing with strange dragons, that when she really becomes cold and hostile, and the difference between how she treats her adoptive family and strangers is stark. And despite caring for her clan, she'd still rather be solitary, and spends much of her time alone, unless Sketch can find her, then he'll spend his time annoying her. ----- [columns]Apparel [gamedb item=7684] - appeared as her powers in ice grew[nextcol]Changes -[/columns]
----- [columns][nextcol]Fei [emoji=purple gem size=1] Born: 30th January 2021 Parents: Brush & Azami Level: 7 Familiar: -[/columns]
Born during the first Crystalline Gala the small clan had celebrated, Fei was the oldest in a clutch of three, though only she and her sister, Piper, survived. The youngest sister, Sonata, was claimed by egg rot, though in her short time alive, the clan has not yet explained to her or Piper that they even had a third sister, or what happened to her. Fei was born to Brush and Azami, neither of who wanted to have a nest together. Fei and Piper were the result of two young and inexperienced dragons not knowing what they were doing, though despite that, both Brush and Azami were incredibly mature about the situation and raised the sisters, with lots of help from the rest of the clan, and neither sister is aware that they were the result of an accident. Fei is the oldest of her and her sister, and ended up growing up to be the largest too. Though despite that, she's not a fighter and hates going out to learn any defensive skills, complaining the whole time until she's allowed to leave. She's very kind and sweet, though still rather innocent and not very world wise. Fei would much rather play with her sister or the rest of her family, than fight, and is a ball of bundled up sweetness and joy. For now, while they're still both rather young, Fei gets on well with Piper, though as the two seem very different in personality, no one's sure if that relationship will last. And of course, like all guardians must, some day she'll need to leave home and embark on her Search to find her Charge.
----- [columns][nextcol]Piper [emoji=raven size=1] Born: 30th January 2021 Parents: Brush & Azami Level: 7 Familiar: -[/columns]
Piper would have been the middle child if Sonata hadn't been stillborn, though as it was, she ended up being the youngest out of herself and Fei. She and her sister were born during the clan's first Crystalline Gala for Brush and Azami, though they were the result of an accident, something they're not aware about. Neither sister is aware yet that they would have had a third sister either, had she not succumbed to egg rot. Piper is not only the youngest, but also the smallest. Though that doesn't stop her from being incredibly active and loving any kind of lesson on defence or fighting. She's much more eager to learn about the world than Fei, and can often be found pestering the other dragons in the clan to either teach her how to fight, or to tell her stories of the places they've been to and where they came from. Piper likes to play with Fei, though often her style of playing is a little rough for her sister, and she often has to be told to calm down a little by the older dragons, something that makes her rather grumpy for a while, even if the bad mood doesn't last long. And like all guardians, one day she'll embark on her Search to find her Charge, wherever that may be.
----- [columns][nextcol]Alyx [emoji=planet size=1] Joined: 30th January 2021 Level: 7 Familiar: -[/columns]
Alyx first came across the members of the clan when Sketch and Azami were burying Azami and Brush's stillborn daughter, Sonata. They had the better sense to keep themself hidden during this sombre and personal time, introducing themself to Doodle a day later while she was out tending to the grave. And while Doodle felt rather unsettled by them, they've done nothing but help the clan and spent most of their time entertaining the hatchlings, Fei and Piper. After they arrived in the clan, the physical building needed expanding and they pitched in and helped the others with building it, helping the process along much more quickly and eventually ending up with their own room. Alyx hasn't yet told anyone in the clan, but they're strangely prophetic, often receiving images and scenes of the future, even if they don't fully understand them until after the event has passed. They'll often also feel a certain urge to do things, even if there seems to be no reason for it. These urges were the original reason Alyx left their old clan and travelled to the Windswept Plateau, though they're still not sure on why they were called to leave their home. But since arriving, they've found themselves growing comfortable with the other dragons that make up the small clan, with even Doodle warming to them, and they're settling into their new home, even if they still receive these strange prophetic images.
----- [columns][nextcol]Ixx [emoji=skull size=1] Joined: 19th February 2021 Level: 6 Familiar: -[/columns]

Sketch is the youngest and the most energetic out of all the siblings. He's always moving, running around and wanting to do something, barely able to sit still and he loves to play games, though his timing of when to play games isn't always the best.

Sketch enjoys being the life of a conversation, always offering himself up to be the 'class clown' and play around to get everyone else to laugh, and Doodle says if he wasn't such a goofball, he'd be an excellent comedian.

Azami found Brush, Doodle and Sketch while they were still searching for a place to make into their permanent home.

Clan Location

The forest the small clan lived in was barely a forest. It was a small group of trees and bamboo penned in by cliffs on two sides, and open breezy meadows on the remaining two sides. The sight of the Twisting Crescendo further down the coast brought winds and gales towards the small copse, though the barrier of trees broke down the gales into more gentle breezes that were easier to withstand.

Up in the sky the gentle rustling of paper could be heard as the Cloudsong floated in and out of sight throughout the day, carried by the neverending breezes of the region, each paper kite holding a whole clan of dragons on its back. These clans were the nearest neighbours to the fledgling clan, though none had ever ventured that high up into the skies to say hello, and neither had the other clans swooped down to greet them, and so they watched the kites sail by daily, but never interacted.

Almost in the centre of the small forest, an ancient tree towered higher than any of the other trees, and this was where the clan had built their home. Nestled among the boughs and wrapped around the trunk were a collection of small wooden buildings, connected to each other via ladders and walkways, with plenty of room outside each building for dragons to land and take off. And at the top of the tree a great landing platform had been constructed from wood, ready to take dragons soaring into the skies with ease using the winds brought from the Twisting Crescendo.

It was small for now, but the ancient tree would be able to hold many more dragons within its branches, and the forest floor would be able to hold many more if the need arose. And the surrounding trees and bamboo protected the dragons from the more raging winds, and other dragons seeking them out with ill intent. And to the few dragons that lived there, it was home.

Both Brush and Sketch called out in unison, fear echoing through their cry as their sister was swarmed by the mimics, vanishing from their sight. The siblings had been caught unawares when the mimics first struck, having never encountered anything like them at all. The kettle and the beautiful goblet were strange, but not unwelcome gifts when they'd woken up in the morning, perhaps from a friendly passerby? But later, when the items had begun to mysteriously move about their small cave, they'd begun to grow more weary, trying to keep an eye on the strange objects and catch them in the act of moving. It was only when it was too late that they realised that the kettle and the goblet weren't items at all, but monsters masquerading as the static items. All three of them had fought back valiantly, knowing full well what would happen if they were to loose. Only they hadn't quite let themselves think about those exact consequences, prefering to fight and hope for the best instead. So when Doodle fell, struck by both the mimics in a flurry of attacks, Brush and Sketch could only stare in horror. "Get away from her!" Brush screamed, launching himself forwards towards the mimics, managing to batter the kettle to the side where it twitched and finally fell still. Sketch was close behind him, pulling Doodle's limp body away from the goblet mimic, swiping at it with his claws as it got a little too close for comfort. "We, we've got to get out of here!" Sketch called out to his brother, panting under the exertion of trying to drag Doodle away. Brush nodded, turning towards his brother and helping him carry Doodle away, while trying to keep the mimic at bay as well. To the pair's great relief, the mimic didn't seem interested in giving chase, and soon left them alone, though they continued travelling for a while longer, wanting to put as much distance between themselves and the mimic as possible. When they eventually rested, they were in a large grassy plain, gentle breezes sweeping through the tall grasses and setting them swaying, a few clusters of bamboo growing in the distance. Here, they gently set Doodle down on the ground, looking her over with worried gazes. "She's breathing!" Brush noted in a hushed, but excited voice, seeing the rise and fall of Doodle's chest, though the myriad of wounds covering her body seemed almost too great to heal. Neither he nor his brother were any good at patching up injuries, up to this point it had been Doodle who was the one who'd sorted out any scrapes or bruises. But they had to try. They didn't want to think of what might happen if they didn't. A few hours later, with her wounds cleaned and bandaged to the best of Brush and Sketch's ability, Doodle began to stir, groggily blinking her eyes open as she peered up, lifting her head to look at her surroundings. "Doodle!" Sketch called out, noticing the movement from his sister and rushing over to her side, Brush quickly following after. "Doodle, are you alright?" Doodle blinked a few times, her brothers eagerly awaiting a response. "Ow..." She grumbled softly after a few moments, blinking again as she glanced down to see what it was that hurt so much. "The mimics, they got to you." Brush explained. "We had to run away, we... we were worried you weren't gonna wake up." He added in a much quieter voice, lowering his head down. "You're gonna be ok now though, right?" Sketch asked, looking worriedly at Doodle who blinked at him again. "I guess...? I just wanna sleep for now. Might have a look at myself later..." Doodle mumbled, laying her head back down, knowing her brothers weren't great at patching up injuries. "We can make sure you're safe, we'll look after you." Sketch said firmly, determined to not let any more harm come to his sister as he curled himself up next to her body, Brush sitting down on her other side. "Yeah. We'll keep you safe." Brush echoed the sentiment as Doodle gave the pair a small smile, then with a small sigh, closed her eyes and drifted off back to sleep. ----- ----- Pinglist @Sightlesz @Naxxar Man, mimics in the Woodland Path are vicious.

Man, mimics in the Woodland Path are vicious. I got through the first 25 battles no problem, then things went rapidly downhill on the 26th. I've decided I'm not going to be exalting anyone while I only have my three starter dragons, as soon as I get a new dragon that rule is gone and all the dragons will be eligible for exalting.

But hopefully I'll get some new dragons soon, come on Pinkerton! And again, rather a short amount of writing, but I progressed their story a little, and hopefully soon they'll find some place to settle themselves down :)
