So her name is Soulful, and her "infection" (called Soulblood) is actually a variant of Lifeblood, on a way.
Instead of harming those who get it, it instead makes them stronger.
It can be gotten either by consuming the Soulblood directly, or out can just randomly happen. It isn't a very fun transformation, but those "infected" also get Lifeblood wings, visible at nearly any given moment.
