As the clan gathered members, it became not the army Henare had dreamed of but a sanctuary for whoever the winds blew to their doorstep. Situated in the passage between the wild winds of the Reedcleft Ascent and the Twisting Crescendo, travelers often stopped to rest on their journeys. Others came to consult the clan’s ever-growing library or to seek assistance from resident experts on various subjects and trades. Some of these visitors decided to stay, inviting others they knew to do the same, and little by little the young clan grew. Carcin’s administrative skills keep the clan running. Henare and Hani’s strength keep it safe, and Skaede’s negotiations keep it largely peaceful. The clan has not been completely untroubled and many of its residents had walked a hard path to arrive there, but in their small corner of the world they have worked to build a santuary.

History
The clan was founded by Henare and Carcin, who continue to lead it. Its history has largely been one of peaceful growth and many strange meetings.

Henare was born and raised among roving mirror packs, and her first experience with a permanent clan was when she was taken in by Carcin’s due to a severe injury. Impressed by the clan’s strength, she resolved to create her own, and once she recovered she set out with Carcin. During their search for a home, they met and recruited the mage Saerilin and warrior Hani, their new clan’s first members.

Their journey ended when they stopped to rest beside a small lake. As Henare scouted the area, crows flocked around her. She returned to the group to tell them that this was where they would stay. She offered little explanation for her choice, but the others, tired from their journey, soon agreed; the area had water and trees, caves that could provide temporary shelter, hills for defense, and after some divination Saerilin determined that it sat at the intersection of several minor ley lines. They began to build, preparing for more members.

To ensure that the clan grew, Henare and Carcin decided to offer a home to anyone who wanted it, provided they were willing to live peacefully with the other members and contribute in some way. To Henare’s dismay, the majority of the dragons who found their way to the growing clan were not warriors, but travelers and scholars.

Most of Saerilin’s luggage had been books, and as soon as he had a building to store them in he began to amass more. He exchanged letters with other scholars and researchers, and some came to visit. Some came to stay. Three of the earliest permanent members were the alchemist Hydrargyros, grateful for somewhere he was permitted to pursue his sometimes hazardous experiments; the archivist Haesk, who collapsed at the clan’s doorstep looking like he had flown through a tornado and declared he would not be leaving; and the mage Lephyntylth, who largely ignored the rest of the clan in favor of research and experiments that were outlawed in much of Sornieth.

Its culture, such as it is, is largely a conglomeration of all the beliefs and traditions of its members. The deities are not as strongly venerated as in most of Sornieth. Though they live under the Windsinger they pay no tribute to him. The dragons of the Wind flight in general regard their whimsical and often fickle god with less reverence than others, but Henare treats the deities with a casual blasphemy that would concern even most Wind dragons, and that attitude has spread to those under her. Though some dragons honor their gods in private, there are no public shrines, and the traditional elemental festivals have transformed into something largely secular. One tradition unique to the clan is their reverence towards birds. Born from Henare’s first meeting with the local crows – which legend claims told her to settle there, although she has never confirmed this – the clan sees all birds as good luck and works to encourage their presence. They leave out many kinds of food for wild birds, and incorporate spaces for them to roost and nest into every building. Many clan members keep domestic birds and most wear feather ornaments of some kind, black crow feathers being considered especially lucky. Gifting someone a personal feather - either one of the giver's own, or one dyed to match their colors - indicates a close relationship. It is most common among family, mates, and close friends, but a dragon may also give a feather to someone who has had a strong impact on them in some way. Some dragons incorporate these feathers into jewelry, others display them in their dens. Art and crafts are a big part of the clan, and decorating the buildings is a joint effort. Every member contributes murals, carvings, chimes, banners, hanging ornaments, or whatever else they can make. These vary from elaborate works of art to crude bamboo mobiles made by hatchlings, and every one is treasured. Handmade chimes and hanging charms are popular gifts, and a number of traditions have grown up around them. The traveler’s lodge is especially crowded, with layers of murals and ornaments dangling from every available outcropping; every visitor is encouraged to add to the display during their stay.

While this assistance is provided to anyone for free, it is customary to offer a gift in exchange; the same is true for access to the library. These are traded for luxury items and difficult to obtain materials needed by the various craftspeople and researchers. Essential resources are distributed within the clan from central stores, ensuring that everyone has what they need. Other goods may be traded between members, or simply given away with the understanding that the generosity will eventually be repaid. All clan members are expected to contribute in some way, but this may be as simple as occasionally helping to tend the gardens, care for the birds, or add to the clan’s many decorations. For the most part, residents can pursue their own interests. It isn’t an elaborate system, but for the small, close-knit community it has proven sufficient. Resources aren’t scarce; there’s no reason for anyone to go without.

The clan is entirely self-sufficient, although they do trade for some goods they can’t easily produce themselves. It lies close enough to major trade routes to get occasional merchants, and they also trade with neighboring clans.

He works tirelessly to organize the constantly growing collection of books, scrolls, tablets, enchanted crystals, and every other storage medium known to dragon or beastclan. He also records the stories of the travelers who pass through. He can be somewhat brusque at times, preferring to skip trivialities and get straight to the point. He studied in a clan in the Sunbeam Ruins and had planned to travel Sornieth to compile local histories and legends. He was unprepared for that journey, and upon arriving at a peaceful spot with a good library he vowed never to travel again. He can collect stories from the comfort of home just fine. Kythe may not remember faces or what he did yesterday, but he has read every book in the collection and will not hesitate to offer recommendations. He lacks Haesk’s formal training and organizational skills but makes up for it with better people skills, making him the face of the library. He has had a lifelong love of books, and when he heard of a new clan growing around a library not too far away, it drew him in immediately. “Libraries always attract librarians,” he claims, “and if they don’t, they make them”. He is full of energy and constant chatter, rarely silent or still for more than a moment. He will try to make friends with anyone and anything that isn't actively trying to kill him, willing to overlook and forgive things most others would not. He wandered into the clan with Lephyntylth. He has few memories from before that, and if pressed usually makes something up on the spot, not even trying to make his stories believable or consistent.

Notable members
These are the clan leaders and those you would be most likely to meet should you visit.

47308451.png Henare
> matriarch and warrior, co-founder
> loyal, ambitious, reckless
> closest with: Carcin, Hani
The face of the clan and its chief defender, her forceful personality holds its disparate parts together and draws in new members. She is as fiercely protective of her clan as a guardian defending their charge, and she has never backed down from a fight – though her body is covered with the scars to prove that isn’t always the wisest choice.

She was raised among roving mirror packs, but after spending time in a permanent clan due to injury she decided to found her own with Carcin's assistance. Though she doesn’t quite understand all the scholars and books she has somehow collected instead of warriors, she is more than willing to fight for them.

47308452.png Carcin
> chief administrator, co-founder
> steadfast, cautious, caring
> closest with: Henare, Bierah
The the solid foundation upon which the clan rests, and the one who keeps it running smoothly. He is quieter than Henare, and more flexible; he works with people, rather than driving them. He's usually the person to go to with a problem.

Henare is his mate and his charge. He found her, badly wounded, on the first day of his Search and brought her back to his clan to recover. When she said she wanted to found her own clan, he started studying the skills that would be needed to make that happen, and when she left, he followed.

47939140.png Skaede
> ambassador
> polite, reserved, perceptive
> closest with: Greattail, Kythe
The clan’s ambassador and diplomat, he assists Carcin in his administrative duties as well as negotiating trade and alliances with nearby clans and beastclans. Others tend to find his presence subtly unsettling, and he has few close friends in the clan. He rarely drops formality and is always impeccably dressed, but usually keeps to himself when not working.

He studied diplomacy in a Shadow clan, one member of which kept up correspondence with Saerilin. His mentor thought the young, peaceful clan would be the ideal place for Skaede to begin his career – and perhaps finally escape his past.

> librarian and archivist
> conventional, studious, inquisitive
> closest with: Kythe, Haelan
One of the two dragons in charge of the library.

48950495.png Kythe
> librarian and tutor
> quiet, amiable, bookish
> closest with: Haesk, Saerilin
The second dragon in charge of the library.

47690992.png Greattail
> scout and messenger
> outgoing, talkative, relaxed
> closest with: Skaede, Lephyntylth
Greattail patrols the borders of the clan's territory and is usually the first member a new visitor meets.

Instead of destroying the spirit and leaving her daughter a husk, Henare allowed them to stay. Given that they previously worked to infiltrate and destroy, they aren't quite sure what to do with themself anymore.
