Update: CrystalCatStudio and I have organized a hub for all future choruses. The new thread is here. Happy Valentine's Day! The final video is done. https://youtu.be/IGZjFej23wE Thank you everyone who made this video possible, and thank you for sticking with the project through all of its quirks. Also, if you haven't already, please listen to the original composition, which Ern kindly let me turn into the chorus piece. Thank you again, Ern, for giving me the chance to do this project. Edit: I've set it as a public video now, so it is searchable. I am happy to set it back to "unlisted" if anyone prefers it. What is the Banescale Choir?

The Banescale Choir is an FR-take on Eric Whitacre's virtual choirs. Whitacre makes virtual choirs by taking clips of people singing different parts of a song. When you put all of the clips together, you have a chorus singing together.

The song is Ern's incredible composition on this thread. Give it a listen if you haven't heard it already.

I made a choral arrangement with Ern's permission.
Is FR Staff Okay With This?

I asked FR whether they are okay with the project. They gave me permission under three conditions:
 1. All discussion stays on FR. For safety, I am keeping all discussion on this forum thread. That way, FR staff can intervene if they see a problem.
 2. I cannot collect any information except the audio and your username. If I harp on some rules, this is why - I can be banned if I mess this part up.
 3. Everything I link has to meet FR's Rules and Policies.
So, yes, FR is okay with this so long as I follow those three rules.
Are We Doing This Again?
Yes! And a lot sooner than I thought!

I have a song in the works. The song should be ready for instrumental recordings a few weeks before Wavecrest Saturnalia and voices right around or shortly after Wavecrest Saturnalia. We'll be finished hopefully in time for the anniversary or a little after.

If someone else wants to do a different virtual choir, I am happy to give pointers about how to make one. In advance, it's a lot of planning ahead of time, but if you plan it right goes (mostly) smoothly.
Thank you for all of your work, everyone!

Choir Instructions

I'm leaving these up in case they're helpful.

The practice videos are up! Here's what you'll need:
 1. Sheet music here
 2. Your practice video:
 3. Headphones (for recording)

*Note: New videos are pending for all but the base part. The sheet music is correct, but the voice sound blurs some of the notes together.

You can sing any part you feel comfortable singing, and you can submit recordings for more than one part if you wish. Please submit your video by February 3 at 6 am FR time.
Which Part is Which?
Soprano 1
You have melody. I only need one or two soprano 1s - do not hurt your voice to reach the high note. If need be, I can replace it with an instrumental sound.
Soprano 1 Range: middle E to B above the treble staff
Soprano 2
You have melody for all but two notes per verse.
Soprano 2 Range: middle E to high E
Alto
The second half of verse 2 is your trickiest part, so it might take a couple of tries, but it should be easy with the rehearsal video. I'll see if I can make it a little easier if needed.
Alto Range: B to A
Tenor
The piano usually supports your part. I'm okay with altos singing the tenor part too.
Tenor Range: G to middle E
Bass 1
Pretty typical base part. I do not mind if you need to sing some parts of base 1 an octave up as needed
Base 1 Range: low G to G; can be sung an octave up where necessary
Bass 2:
Pretty typical base part with a few extra low notes.
Base 2 Range: low E to G
How Does the Rehearsal Video Work?
There is a beep at the beginning. The beep does not matter until you record. The music starts 10 seconds in. The video has the piano and your part.

The sheet music images have blue dots and red dots. The blue dots show where the sheet music image will change to the next part of the music. If the music does not change cleanly, the red dot shows where the sheet music changed over.

Sopranos and altos have a solo part. You can choose whether or not to sing it. I plan to use only a couple of voices at that point.

Check the descriptions for the videos. They'll let you know how the videos work and if there are any quirks in your part.
Recording Instructions
 1. Find a way you are comfortable recording an mp3 file. Clyp has a recording option, but you can record separately and upload it later.
 2. Set up the rehearsal video. Have your headphones unplugged.
 3. After the beep sounds, plug your headphones in so you can hear the rehearsal video.
 4. Sing along, and stop recording after you finish.
 5. Upload the audio onto Clyp.
Clyp Instructions
You don't need to set up Clyp until you're ready to record/upload, but I wanted to post the instructions early in case you're a worry-wart like me. You can use another service if you prefer so long as it has no video or any way of identifying you. If you use Clyp:
 1. Set up an account on https://clyp.it.
 2. Go to settings.
 3. Set your name as your FR username. Do not add any other information to your profile.
 4. Scroll to the bottom. Set your profile to private and set your upload privacy to "unlisted by default." (You can still share your upload with a link.) That way no one will see your clip unless you want someone to see it.
 5. When you upload the recording, check "downloads" so I can download your clip.
 6. Name the clip "banescale soprano 1" or something similar so I can see what part you sang.
 7. Post the link on the forum thread (you can pm me if you prefer).
 8. I will let you know when I've downloaded your clip so you can delete it if you wish.

Note for next time: Google drive works too. It can store mp3/wav clips and allow for downloads the same way.

Your recording is due February 3 at 6:00 am FR time.

Thank you, and have fun!

@unidra
I'd be very interested in doing some art for this project!
My shop with prices and examples can be found here.
I haven't ever tried drawing Banescales, but they don't look too difficult to figure out.
If the prices are a bit much for your budget, I wouldn't be against giving a bit of a discount since this project sounds really cool.

@unidra I might be able to help with art? I don't have an art shop, but I'll add a few examples of my more recent art below. I have a few different styles and I tend to jump between them, so let me know which art style you're interested in ^^ Along with the three examples below this, I can also do just a quick sketch (don't have any examples of this at the moment, but if you need me to show an example then I can sketch something). Sketches usually take 15-30 minutes to finish.
I can usually do art in this style pretty fast (15 minutes to an hour), but it might not be the neatest art.

I'm still working on this style, so it might take a while to finish. I'm not entirely sure that I've figured it out yet though, so the end result for this type of art might not turn out like the example above, especially since I'm still experimenting with it.

This can take anywhere between 3 hours and a few days to finish, based on how much time I have to work on art. It should mostly turn out like the example. (I can do this style with a specific background, or with a plain or transparent background.)
Edit: just did a sketch with a Gaoler and a Banescale (mostly for practice, this was my first time drawing a Bane XD)
As I said above, I usually finish sketches in 15-30 minutes or so, mainly depending on whether or not it's something I've drawn before. Sketches will turn out like the image above ^^ (and I can always change the background color, or add colors to the art at some point if needed).
@FourLeaf Ooh, your art's lovely - and I like your Banescale drawing! Actually, that scene - or something similar if you prefer - might be perfect for the song. I'll add you to the artists' pinglist. What payment did you want for each type of art?

@Srysoar Nope - you just have to enjoy singing. I tried to make all of the singing parts pretty easy. Otherwise, I'll post videos that have each part isolated from the other parts.

I'll post some more information about the parts in a few moments. And I'll add you to the pinglist. Thanks!

@unidra I’d love to draw something for this project :) I’ll try out some ideas I’ve got, but what kind of drawings do you want? Like what sort of feel? I’ll upload a rough - ish drawing here once I’m happy with it, and you can see what you think about it, make some changes, etc. Payment wise, I’m pretty much in extreme poverty on this site so I’d be happy with anything really lol upload pic Here’s the rough pic, what do you think?
