Lightwatch Clan

Deep in the reaches of the Crystalspine Mountains lies a waterfall locals call the Spyre Falls. Living on the edge of the falls is a relatively new clan: The Spyrefalls Clan.

The Spyrefalls Clan is where dragons and beasts of all shapes and sizes can come to rest peacefully, away from strife and judgement. The clan's founding member, Sylvara, although not the leader, has declared the clan open to all who would join.

The lair is located beside the Spyre Falls, where the grass grows thick and green on the unforgiving soil. Large crystalline spires which surround the falls give it its name. Homes are dug out of the crystal by magic, and are located in a circular pattern spiralling out from the waterfall and its large open meadow at the center.

The hatchery is located in a shallow cave behind the waterfall, which protects hatchlings from the elements. This cave is commonly guarded by Wächter, the leader's centaur friend, who adores the children as if they were his own.

Very few trees grow in the spaces between the spires. Those that do are revered by the dragons that make up the clan, as they are home to a multitude of berries, birds and insects.[/color]

But even the Spyre Falls, protected as it is, is not impervious.

After six months of living together in the Spyre Falls’ crystal spires, disaster struck. A swarm of creatures, alien to Sornieth, found the clan’s home. It destroyed their homes, poisoning the grass and trees and cracking the mighty mountain until the formerly gentle waterfall became a gushing river.

But all was not lost. Beowyr and Sylvara worked together to gather all of the dragons out of their homes, while Meghan and their new allies kept the creatures at bay. They fled deep into the Crystalspine reaches. Terrified of the possibility of being followed by these terrible creatures, the clan crossed the border of the Starfall Isles and into the Scarred Wasteland. They braved the Wasteland and the cruel tricks of the Tangled Wood before finally settling in the Sunbeam Ruins.

But one question still remains: What did the creatures want with them? Why did it attack their home, destroying their peace? Will it follow them to their new home and destroy that too?

Deep in the Sunbeam Ruins, near the Hewn City, lies a small forest. During the day, the sunlight falls through the golden trees onto the ruins below. At night, small wisps of light float around the trees, casting a beautiful yet eerie glow.

The Lightwatch clan lives among the ruins of the forest, building their homes within the stone with the help of their Stonebearer. A small frozen-over pond lies in the center of the ruins, under which lies a Shadetouched. Far away from the pond, in a secluded ancient temple, eggs are guarded by the leader’s familiar, Wächter. Birds sing in the trees, and insects buzz around the ruins.

The Hewn City is visible from the tops of the trees. Hatchlings are warned from straying too far from the lair – or too high. Every once in a while, the mysterious shade from the city blows over the clan, casting the ruins in darkness. The vast majority of dragons remain inside when this happens.

The clan is full of refugees, cast from their homeland when the Spyre Falls were destroyed. It is hoped that the presence of the Hewn City will hide the clan’s new home from the creatures that attacked them – as well as from the Lightweaver’s gaze, who would likely destroy the clan should she ever find out that her rogue God and his husband have taken refuge within it.

The Captain of the Guard has instilled a Night Watch, due to the presence of the City and the various dangers to the clan. Members take turns guarding the clan while it sleeps, and no dragon – apart from the Captain herself – takes watch more than two nights in a row.

History

The Lightwatch Clan, formerly known as the Spyrefalls Clan due to the close proximity of the Spyre Falls, was founded by the imperial Sylvara. She found and raised two hatchlings, Beowyr and Faera, whose eggs had fallen from stars. Sylvara soon came across a waterfall with a cave hidden at the back and raised the hatchlings there. Soon other dragons joined the small group, and the Spyrefalls Clan was born.

After only six months of living in the comfort and safety of the Spyre Falls, disaster struck: Alien creatures from the Focal Point found and attacked the clan, destroying their home. Forced out of the former Falls, the clan travelled through the Tangled Wood and into the Sunbeam Ruins, where they settled in a series of ruins in a small forest near the Hewn City. The Captain of the Guard, Meghan, hoped that the close proximity of the City would hide them from the creatures as well as the Lightweaver herself. However, having grown up in the Ruins, Meghan knows the danger the City presents, and so has instated a Night Watch, shared by all adult dragons. The newly dubbed Lightwatch Clan lives in peace tinged with fear.

Roles
The Lightwatch Clan is very tight-knit, for the most part. All members share duties related to hunting, fishing and gathering. The Clan's fisherman, Cemlyn, teaches hatchlings and new members how to fish using long-honed skills.

The Night Watch and Day Guard duties are shared by all adult members. Certain dragons who are used to fighting are found guarding the clan more often than others, and the Captain has to regularly be told to take a break by the clan's leader, Beowyr. The Night Watch is split into two shifts: An Evening Shift, which lasts from sunset until midnight, and the Morning Shift, which lasts from midnight until sunrise. No dragon is put on Night Watch duty for more than two nights in a row, and never for the same shift twice in a row.

The duty of den construction and upkeep falls to the Stonebearer, Tiay.
