Chapter 1
Touching Darkness

tumblr_inline_nvcxkfpBls1r7qfkn_75sq.png

In the beginning, there was nothing.

Then, everything.

From chaos, came creation. From discord, came life.

Within the disorder of Plague, came a secret order...

The beginning foreshadows the end. All things are born of chaos and all things will end in chaos. We embrace this inconstant constant.

Kindness is a dream of mortal-kind. A beautiful illusion, a plea to the world. However much you bargain with reality, death will not heed you. It shall come for you regardless. Given enough time, all will fade away, and the world will be silent and still.

We accept the truth. It is a harsh world we live in. As such, Chaos Legion only houses creatures born of the battlefield. With sharp claws capable of rending flesh and bone. We are birds of prey, wrapped in slick feathers, bringing death in a flash of red.

It's kill, or be killed. Eat, or be eaten. Master, or be mastered. It is the law of the Plague Flight, and so it is the law of the Legion. And we obey.

Darkness lives in our souls, and we choose to touch it, to love it. To us, death is not the enemy; it is the way.

Here we reside at world's end, where the jagged land itself is scarred. Do you really expect us to invite you in? The bones that surround our territory are sharpened to be as dangerous as the points of our claws.

We scorn the cowardly ways of other Clans. When we fight, we get up close and personal. Claw against claw, with nowhere for our enemies to flee.

Face to face. It is better this way. More honest.

Chaos Legion is founded on a pack of Mirror dragons, the most ruthless of hunters. The thirst for the hunt and thrill of the kill is embedded within each of us. We utilise precise, killing blows with the razor tips of their claws to end our foes. Swiftly and silently.

While other Clans are content to hide behind diplomacy, we do not compromise. Those that do not bend, we break.

We waste no time rallying our warriors with promises of glory, they know what is expected of them, and they will deliver. Win or die. There is no alternative.

If you wish to join the Chaos Legion, you'd better make sure you've got some shiny claws. Aspiring members must challenge a member for their spot, and fight to the death. No spells, no trickery. Just dragon vs dragon, claw to claw. Only a good brawl carry the weight of destiny.

We don't get many outsiders. But should you succeed, your service will be rewarded. All that is structured will decay into randomness, and as way diverges into way, Chaos will set you free. Indulge in your desires, destroy your foes, bring your ideals to life and let it become your truth.

Chaos-born dragons are raised on the battlefield, wild and free. They taste blood before they taste a meal. For they have to kill if they wish to eat at all. The Legion needs warriors, not more soft mouths to feed.

Sometimes we get hatchlings that lack this ferocity, without the potential for greatness. These shy-claws will be exiled or killed. It's survival of the fittest, and they are not fit to survive.

Go now, leave us to train amidst the wicked, razor bone shards, and pray we never meet on opposite sides...
Chapter 2 The Butterfly Effect All things end in chaos. And, like all things, the Legion bows to this fundamental law. Corruption lost a lot of respect when he picked Arcturus as his second. Although she was a fierce fighter, she was not plagueborn. Many believed that she just did not carry the bloodline of true warriors, and is not blessed by the Plaguebringer. In a world where nature itself is constantly trying to destroy the very life it has created, there is no room for internal conflict. The hungry monstrosities that prowl the vile contagion are as harsh and merciless as their homeland. One by one, dragons and hatchlings alike were snatched away Then the BeastClans came. We had regarded them with disdain, for they were just beasts. Inferior to dragonkind. They came over the horizon, darkening the already bleak landscape, swarming into lairs and nests leaving rivers of blood in their wake. We were baffled. Enemies that were so easy to defeat were now so difficult to even touch. We had lost too many warriors. Much of the BeastClans remained at a distance, throwing giant amounts of magical energies into the battlefield, wrapping reality itself. The battle lasted for days, each of us outnumbered and fighting for our life. Calls for help were ignored and hatchling's cries went unanswered. Strange things happened to the fallen. Grievously wounded dragons did not die, and yet perfectly healthy dragons suddenly never woke up again. Some swore that they saw their dead friends get up again only to fight for the other side... Casters. Magic. A vital advantage that we did not possess. When it ended, what remained of Chaos Legion gathered in a haggard hoard. Fingers were pointed, and in a fury, we drove Arcturus, and her firstborn Hades, into exile. Corruption, stung by his failure, was forced to step down. Corruption's long reign has ended. Chaos Legion has fallen. But give us a blank slate, and we start anew. This, now, is a new world. We have tasted magic, and it will not be soon forgotten. The headstrong and rash Clan who only knew how to fight tooth and claw gave way to something new. More shrewd and cunning than their predecessor, and much more experienced. In the civil war that followed, Eupatrid seized power. He had a strong standing in the Clan, and a rightful claim as he is regarded as a true Plagueborn. And as iron sharpens iron, the Legion shall thrive once more. We will find magic, bring casters amidst us, and learn the secrets behind their mysterious power. Then we will claim it for ourselves. By some combination of fortune, fate and entropy, Diablerie, an outsider, strayed into the Legion's territory. Before, he would've been hunted down mercilessly, now, he was offered a choice. Swear loyalty to the newly forged Iron Legion and fealty to Plague, and he will be given protection and all the benefits of a Clan. And so the we learnt of Arcane, dragons who held power over the stars themselves. Enchanted by this new power in our claws, we sent scouts across the border and into the crystalline world originally considered weak and inferior. It seemed to now hold possibility. Chapter 2
The Butterfly Effect

All things end in chaos.

One by one, dragons and hatchlings alike were snatched away

Then the BeastClans came.

Something beautiful was found in Arcane. Gossamer-winged flashes of colour that wielded the power of the elements as if it were an extra limb. They were born to it, as we were born to die. They were worthy of preservation. Of evolution.

So we stole their eggs and their hatchlings. They will give the Legion warriors of magic, and the generations after them will grow into true children of the Plague.

It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’s wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world. Butterflies are proof of transformation. Like the butterfly, we must shed the cage that restrains us, find the potential within and emerge.

After all, to serve Plague is to be the butterfly; our lives are fleet but fleeting, small but glorious to behold.

The Iron Legion has recruited Fae.

Listen well dear child, for you are made of iron. We do not bend, we do not break. Do your duty, serve the Legion, and spread our will across the land until we reign supreme once more.

It is meant to act as an initiation for new members, be they pilgrims from other flights or hatchlings just passing their first year. Only by passing the Rite and swearing the Oath, can a dragon be accepted as a member of the Legion. The ceremony usually lasts around a week, with initiates conducting daily sacrifices and offerings upon an altar to the Plaguebringer, renouncing any previous loyalties they may have had. The Rite is brutal, and the initiates would fast for days, hunting for the rest of the clan but not eating themselves, in order to prove their selfless dedication to the clan as well as their own resilience. Furthermore, The initiates are encouraged to fight amongst themselves to establish their position in the clan. The Rite is a way to prove that they have the temperament and ability to endure the conditions of war. To enforce this, duals are conducted before the Plaguebringer altar, and it's not uncommon for the weaker hatchlings or hopeful travellers to die on the altar of the goddess. Those who survive the week would present a final offering, be it an expensive carved trinket, the skull of a giant boar, or otherwise something of great significance to earn their rightful place in the Clan. O great Plaguebringer, Hallowed be thy name, Thy triumph will come, Thy will be done. Give us this day our daily blood, And forgive us our mercy, As we forgive those who show mercy, And deliver us from torment. For yours is the power and the glory. At the conclusion of the Rite and the Oath, the year will be reaching its end. The Legion will have welcomed its new batch of members, and ready to greet the new year as a cohesive group.

Greetings, wanderer of the contagion.
How did you stumble across my little corner of hell?

Who am I? I have been called many names, but I am most often known as The Great Corruption.

I see in your reaction you have heard of me. Don't worry, whether or not you die today is entirely up to you.

Do you want to know why the Iron Legion are the most feared group in these parts of the Plaguelands?

I'm sure you've noticed by now that I have no parents. I had them at one point, of course, I have yet to meet a dragon not born from parents. Unfortunately, they didn't last all that long.

I was always a headstrong hatching, I fought and bullied for every scrap. What they didn't give me, I stole. My other den-mates found it hard to survive in the world. One by one, they were taken. Fallen prey to disease and the creatures that lurk in the shadows. I alone remained standing, in apathetic defiance of this savage land.

My parents grew wary of me. I was becoming too dangerous. Too good at what I did. I became better than them, and they had to remove the growing threat. They exiled me from their Clan, left me to wander alone, at the mercy of the beasts that prowl the vast horizons.

But I was cunning and more ruthless than they ever were. I sought revenge. I made sure they suffered before they died.

Stop looking so horrified, I'm sure they would've been proud to have raised such a strong child if they can see me now.

Now, the Legion is my kin. I give them power in exchange for their service. I have built myself a world where my word is law. I am judge, jury, and executioner, and the Iron Legion are my sentinels.

Are you wondering about my scars? Yes, well, no dragon is invincible. Don't get any ideas now, I was young and foolish then, I turned my back on another dragon. My brother. I believed him incapable of attacking me, for I was his kin. A naive thought, of course. Out here in the Contagion, it's every beast for himself.

Hmm? What happened after? There was no after. It was kill or be killed, and I was always stronger. He thought he could take advantage of my weakness, and I made sure he didn't live to regret it.

Let that be a lesson to you stranger. Don't mess with the Iron Legion of Dis.
