The Fortress of Ends.

Very few are capable of setting foot anywhere near the most frigid depths of the Southern Icefield. It is rumored that only the wandering Tundra may find themselves braving the bitter winds that carve themselves around the jagged teeth of the wicked glacier and hoarfrost. The crystallizing vapors of sea wind and Icewarden's blessing becomes a skeletal field of mystery and preservation within breaths. Each gust of wind curling, writhing, and singing through their art gallery of unmoving life within death will turn even the bravest from deep exploration.

It is here that a young Skydancer found himself some time ago. He had been searching for the solitude and sanctity of inhospitable conditions, longed for the cloak of a still and unmoving land and it is here that he believes he has found it. It is here that he sees the culmination of a lifetime of vision, study, and careful planning. Within the columns of permafrost, he continuously carves a spire with the shared collaborations of engineering and genius from all over Sornieth. Unbroken by the outside world, it stands resolute as a haven for those like him: powerful and in desperate need of guidance and faith.

Welcome to the Laboratory, where the most powerful of all dragons come to hone their abilities and face psychological aid; magical training; and physical study in order to better understand themselves and the way in which the magic that swirls and gathers within the very veins of Sornieth's inhabitants.

Cracks of ice shine through the carved tunnels with inner light that splits faint rainbows over the floor in places. Further in, a comfortable common-area rests between two pathways that wind up toward the summit. Some of those from the second floor can be seen passing along one side to visit their rehabilitating friends below and personnel descend from the other. Of course, this common area retains a hospital-like cleanliness, each set of furniture and area built with a curving, edge-less simplicity that keeps the inhabitants and personnel safe. The common area is bordered by branching hallways that split into cells that can be locked up in case of emergency, but generally remain open. One in particular holds training and observation rooms, though it eventually slopes upward into a medical bay that is attached to all four floors. ----------------- ---------------- ---------------- Fill with secure stuff later- ---------------- ----------------

These are the beloved tenants of the Laboratory. While many are notoriously dangerous, the facility aims to treat, teach, and minimize any and all damage. Here, we nurture a large majority of our subjects and, for others, offer a treatment plan in order to rehabilitate certain dragons in the hopes that one day they will be trustworthy enough to re-enter Sornieth.

Within one of these vast rooms built with the touch of an electrician's eye, a vast garden sprouts beneath wobbling balls of condensed light that occasionally rains down little flecks of harmless warmth into the magical plant life below. Here, the cells are built into the walls like afterthoughts that gave way to the immense beauty captured within stone and metal. Familiars rustle through the vegetables and nibble on fallen seed near a crystalline pool filled with vibrant fish. Here, the tenants walk freely to and from whichever part of the laboratory they wish. They are the ones who have earned every moment of their freedom, who have spent countless days training in order to control themselves and honing the kindness and confidence within them. For their efforts, an Eden awaits here for their every whim

At the very base of the mountain, the dark metal lining of the secure hallways falls away once again to a pristine and open luminance.

It was one of such drops that left him in pure darkness, wings torn and pride equally wounded within unknown territory.

Lace himself was born within the distant lands of Dragonhome, a place where the faithful sheered their wings and buried themselves in soil and darkness as a testament of their resolute strength and profound memory for labyrinthine tunnels. As a Skydancer with large wings meant for the sky, Dragonhome was a barren hinderance that left him scarred from rough stone and perilous drops with the lack of wing room to save himself. It was one of such drops that left him in pure darkness, wings torn and pride equally wounded within unknown territory.

He had attempted to find his way out of his Clan, away from the ever-moving, nomadic few that coddled him as too much of a hinderance. Sliding between stones, he found himself angling downward until the ground dropped away beneath him and he could not save himself from plummeting. Without any light and no way to turn back, Lace recovered enough to crawl through the narrow passageways for as long as he could until it felt as though the very walls were curling themselves around him like tendrils. And so the Laboratory was born.

Any who had seen the fall of Kitania's born clan could bear witness to the insidious cunning the disease held. Within the ruins of the Lightweaver's domain, a clan was affronted by hatchlings born with red eyes and defects that marred their beautiful feathers and scales and sent many to their exaltation before their time. Those who survived were seen as the disease's fangs, though Kitania knows now that she and the others were merely the festering wound left in the wake of it. Even still, the oddly placed Plaguelings were sequestered from the others within the ruins of a beautiful marble structure that her clan had used as a temple dedicated to their deity. Within isolation, none of the little Plaguelings could see the rot that had begun to spring forth from within their clanmates. They sang the hymns and endured the lessons and procedures that would keep their rot from spreading out and consuming them. Though she retains the beautiful voice and grace she was trained for within the temple, though she still finds the presence of marble and light comforting, her heart remains with the Plaguebringer. She cautions that she still feels this way at times, though time and experience has allowed her to refine the methods of holding onto herself and restraining the curse within her. Each rift cuts through time, space, and consciousness until it grows disproportionately to the space around it, mutating endlessly into a form unrecognizable and immense. In a territory deep within the Plaguebringer's land, a rift sits within the ground of a forest of rot that stretches like a gaping maw of a wound filled to the brim with a wriggling darkness. Some dragons believe it to be a remnant of the Shade, and others still believe it to be a festering gash that had been left unchecked for so long that it ate through reality itself, thus creating a twisted area where magic warps and creatures of ruin are given life akin to the twisted and writhing shapes of the eldritch. It is here that a renowned clan makes its home, aiding these newborn abominations and giving them haven until they decide to move on with their fates. Ganache was born in the fringe of hideous monstrosity and dragon-kind within this clan with a form that could be just as rigid and sharp as any other Ridgeback, or as soft and writhing as the inky black shapes from whence many of his clanmates had come from. True to the promises of those who resided beside the rift, he was never out of place there and grew up with a loving mother who sang to audiences within a lounge and a father who aided in his training while he was young. Through his father's teachings, Ganache learned early how to solidify his form and choose for himself the gravity of his own existence within the world outside of the rift. It was from that point forward that Ganache decided that he wouldn't live beside the rift for long and began venturing out to meet dragons beyond his clan. For some time, he built up his connections until he was able to rise above his peers to begin directing them. Clanless and unbound by loyalties, he was able to begin his own 'business' in borrowing and lending of treasures, relics, and dragon power. Pivotal in many territory skirmishes, raids, and battles, he quickly gained fame for his leadership skills and his ability to tell a dragon's intents and abilities within moments of meeting them in order to place them in the most advantageous positions. Many feats aside, this ability to appraise a dragon's attributes, skills, and personality were what caused Nira to reach out to him and negotiate a deal with him to come here. It was an offer he could not refuse and it did not take long for his own demands to be accepted by Lace. Cosmic horror is known for warping the reality around the shapes of the unknowable with gravity that far surpasses the forces that keep us rooted to the ground.

Since then, he has been operating as a scientist, appraiser, and powerhouse within the Laboratory. When supplies are low, it is his contacts that supply the courier and help to set up waypoints in their territories.
