As you sit down next to her, you follow her somber gaze, which rests on the horizon. You watch with her quietly and take in the moment together. The moon lighting the sea below, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks and the smell of seawater sends you into a state of tranquility. The girl sighs quietly, breaking the silence between you. Then a small, nervous laugh escapes her mouth. You look back towards her and you’re surprised to see tears streaming down her face. Her red eyes showing the loneliness and the anger she silently holds inside. She glances at you and then stares back towards the horizon. “I don’t need sympathy,” she says bluntly. But the emotions that you see on her face concern you. You turn towards her slightly. “What happened to you?” The words come out of your mouth before you realize. You stammer for an apology, but she holds a finger against her lips. Shhh. The girl smiles and looks down into her lap. Another small laugh, and then her expression changes. She looks up to you and holds your gaze with her bright red eyes. You see that anger again. An anger she keeps to herself. An anger she holds alone. She begins to open her mouth. “My name is Temple,” she says. “But that’s not my first name…” A pause. “You see, I was the first and I am still the only maiden on Miresa to experience permanent memory loss.” She pauses again, and looks away from you, settling back into a relaxed position so she can once again watch the sea meet the stars. “Eurielle can’t do anything, and no amount of medicines, rituals or counselling can get my memories back. It’s not that I blame them. I hold an anger towards the island of Miresa itself. Its ancient magic summons us, and then keeps us here, forever, without any warning. For all I know I could have had a perfect life before Miresa, but I won’t ever know again. I won’t remember again.” “It sounds like you’ve tried everything you can,” you say. She nods once in agreement. “It’s… an uncomfortable experience. Knowing the words to things you see for the first time, holding a strong sentimental feeling for this jade necklace,” she grabs the necklace around her neck and shows you. Its silver chain and green jewel are well-worn. “This is from a girl I knew. I think. I don’t know. I get pieces of memories sometimes, or so I think, but it’s all shadows. I can’t get any information from it.” Strange magic. “The moonlight is beautiful, but my temple awaits me. You can find me there,” as she gets up, you grab her hand. She looks down at you and sees the concern in your eyes. Her face softens. As you stare deeply into her eyes, her words creep down your spine. “I will make Miresa give me my memories back.” She tugs lightly and you release her hand. As she walks away, the wind seems cooler than before. Too cool. The crashing waves below sound more violent than the calming atmosphere before, and the seawater has started to smell too much like fish. You wondered how Miresa could cause this. With thousands of maidens, Miresa only gave one with permanent memory loss? Miresa chooses its maidens, carefully. So why would its magic summon a maiden only to wipe her memories away? There is only one probable conclusion. Miresa doesn’t want her to remember. _____________________________________ Thanks for reading! Thanks for reading! Temple's story is more developed than most, but there's still a lot of holes so there is lots up in the air still. I plan to do multiple shorts for certain characters, depending on public interest / my own personal developments with everybody. Temple is a personal favourite of mine so you should see more of her in the future! c:

As the light beams down, you see a small house slightly poking out from the forests’ edge. It looks old and abandoned, yet somehow inviting. You decide to walk up and take a better look. As you approach the wooden porch entrance, you look to see a rocking chair that sits perfectly in the sun. You try to peer into the dusty windows of the place, but it’s too clouded. You look towards the door and decide to give one small knock. … Nothing. You look down at the door handle. What do you have to lose? You jiggle it gently and to your surprise, the door opens smoothly. You peer inside and are greeted with a sun-lit interior. You step inside and close the door behind you quietly. The entire place was covered in plants of all assortments. Some were hanging from the ceiling while others were in large pots on the ground. You notice a variety of tools; mortar and pestles, gloves, shovels, and other gardening essentials. While you wind your way through the home-grown jungle, you see a desk with a large book opened on it. You look down at it and see various sketchy drawings of plants, with small boxes of informative text. You smell a citrusy scent, mixed with honey, and your eyes flash over to a hot cup of tea resting next to the book. “Ah, a guest, so lovely of you to visit!” Comes a voice from behind you. You turn around in surprise and are greeted by a girl wearing an oriental mask that covers the top half of her face. A smile spreads across her face as she approaches you. You see a small green bird nestled snuggly into her neck, as the girl’s long green hair acts as a shelter for the creature. “Are you looking for something to brighten up your room? Or perhaps ail a persistent headache? Maybe you’d like to try my samples for some freshly-brewed tea? I have all the plant-needs you can think of!” You politely decline and explain you were just passing through. You can see a slight disappointment on her face, but her friendly stature remains. You glance back to the book on the desk as the woman walks around it to sit down. She takes a small sip of the tea that was left there. You nod towards the book, “What is that for?” “Oh, it’s just a simple encyclopedia. There are just so many plants to learn about that I lose track. I decided that it would do me better to make something organized and portable to help me with my collection. My apprentice, Fern, does all of the artistic entries though. I was never one to excel at the creative arts.” “What exactly do you do here?” The woman looks at her book and lightly flips the pages in her hand. “I study herbology, though many girls come here for tea essentials – a young lady named Temple frequently visits to grab sage off of me. Eurielle likes to come see Bramble,” she points at the bird happily nestled on her shoulder. He chirps in agreement. You turn around and look at the shop. “Well, I guess I could pick out something to bring home…” You turn back towards the woman, “What would you recommend?” The girl smiles and reaches under her desk. Your curiosity peaks as she pulls out a small pot with an underwhelmingly sad stem barely poking up from the dirt. Your confusion must have been noticed by the woman, who laughs lightly. “I promise you; this plant will be perfect for you. It just needs a little love and care and in time, it will thank you for your generosity. Please, take it.” She hands it to you and you take it warily. You look down at the small plant – just a stem and a small, new leaf. The two of you meet eyes and nod, and you leave without another word. As you shut the wooden door behind you, you’re greeted by a nice warm breath of air, and the sun beams down on your skin gently. As you begin to walk the trail back into the forest again, you see a small signpost with the words “Delma’s Plant Essentials” scratched into the wooden panel. “So that’s Delma…” You quietly mutter to yourself. You’ve heard rumors about her – a retired mage, now dedicated to herbology. You want to learn more about this mysterious mage, and why she quit the honorable practice. After all, not everybody can wield magic. You look down at the plant in your hands, and to your surprise, the small stem now had a bud poking out from it, with a white flower beginning to emerge. Maybe Delma isn't quite finished with magic just yet. _____________________________________ Thanks for reading! @Rohana @perspective @MurEyeUh

As you follow a small trail through the thick woods of Miresa, you come up to a small meadow that breaks the darker and cooler atmosphere.

You smell a citrusy scent, mixed with honey, and your eyes flash over to a hot cup of tea resting next to the book.

You turn around in surprise and are greeted by a girl wearing an oriental mask that covers the top half of her face. A smile spreads across her face as she approaches you. You see a small green bird nestled snuggly into her neck, as the girl’s long green hair acts as a shelter for the creature.
