[item=Corpsemaker Ivy] (Um, so. . . how's life?) Day 61: Opal shoved a heavy wooden mahogany door out of her way and bounded outside the rather impressive building, double-floored and covered in fancy floral designs. She was soon followed by Jade and Zaffer, who carried quaint white boxes of freshly-made dishes to go. "You sure you don't need help?" Opal asked again, partially hypnotized by the tantalizing smell. "Yeah, we're good." Jade insisted despite the slight strain in her voice, hefting a large box filled with a family-sized meal for spirals. Opal impatiently shifted from foot to foot. "Well, d'ya think we could stop by a Scroll Shop on the way home?" She continued. August stared at her. "Scroll shop?" He echoed, dumbfounded. "You've never mentioned liking scroll shops." Opal scoffed and affectionately elbowed him in the ribs. "I can read." She teased. "And I was just thinking we could pick up some scrolls for the dragonets! Like for Zaffer and me when we were younger. Right, Jade?" She added, grinning mischievously at the green spiral. Jade snorted with laughter. "Balmy." She muttered, a smile tugging at her lips. "I'll never forget that." Zafer joined in, peering around the heap of boxes he was carrying. "'It's something that has a balm'." he echoed in an exaggeration of Opal's voice. "Real smart, Opal." Opal huffed and turned away, though she was obviously pleased with herself. "It made sense at the time!" She retorted. Jade chuckled. "All the more reason to get a few scrolls for our dragonets now." She added helpfully, pressing a pouch of coins into the nocturne's talons. "We passed one on the way here. Just hop in and try to find stuff all of us will enjoy." Opal saluted the green spiral. "Aye, aye!" She cried, bounding away. Her tail vanished behind a corner up ahead. By the time the rest of the dragons had caught up with her, she was casually strolling out of the Scroll Shop, a pleasant smile on her face and several scrolls piled up in her talons. "So what'd you get?" August asked curiously, leaning forward. Opal grinned at him, fingering a rather large and yellowed roll of parchment. "I figured it would do us all some good if we knew about Rivermouth, so I got a scroll that tells us about this place's past and origin, nice places to hang out, and all kinds of cool myths!" August cracked a smile. "That's actually pretty useful!" he said enthusiastically. Opal rolled her eyes. "How could you ever doubt me?" She asked teasingly, poking his wing. "I also got a few random adventure stories for beginners. I thought the dragonets might like them, especially Odyssey." The little wildclaw glanced up at the sound of his name, tearing his eyes away from the food-filled boxes. "Hmm?" He mumbled. "Adventure stories?" Opal flashed him a wide grin. "Yep!" She chirped. "They seem like your style. I've got one here about a Pearlcatcher lost in the Fortress of Ends who finds a bunch of locals to help him get through a blizzard." She explained as she pried a thinly wrapped, crisp white scroll out of the bundle she was carrying. "Lots of cool facts about the Southern Icefield too." Opal added, holding the scroll out to the young wildclaw. Odyssey's eyes went wide as he gently took it from her talons surveyed it's rather bleached-looking exterior, turning it over in his talons. He slid open the very top of the scroll, scanning the first few sentences with his pale eyes. "Thank you." Odyssey breathed, clutching it close to his chest. "I don't know much about my home. If you can call it that." he admitted reluctantly. "It's nothing." he added hurridley when he caught the inquiring look on Jade's face. "I'm just. . ." He glanced at the scroll clutched in his claws. "Really thankful." "No prob!" Opal chirped cheerfully. "A few fun comics about a Hainu too, for the other young ones. I even got this cool scroll about narwhals! Figured Juno and Romeo might be into it." No sooner had she pulled the small blue scroll into view Romeo came rushing in and snatched it away from her. He immediately rolled the scroll open with such enthusiasm he nearly tore it in two. "Cooooooool!" He swooned, pressing his nose into a picture of a narwhal's most common habitat. Jade laughed and rubbed her son's horns affectionately. "Try to wait for Juno until you read that." She told him. Romeo looked slightly disappointed, but obediently rolled the scroll back up and wedged it under his arm, unwilling to part with it. "We should probably head home now." Aurora pointed out. "Or the food might get cold. And Zaffer might collapse from exhaustion too I guess." Zaffer snorted. "I'm touched." he muttered. Aurora cuffed his shoulder, and the boxes in Zaffer's arms teetered dangerously. "Obviously." The coatl teased with a grin. Jade smiled slyly at the two of them. "We really should get home though." She agreed hurridley. "And I'd rather not have to go through the trouble of reattaching the limbs of any of my clanmates." She added. Zaffer chuckled lightly. "Let's hurry up, then! I'm not fond of the idea of getting my arms amputated either." ------ @AmberHive @mayanaz @Spottedleaf125 @Skyeset @Moon314 @WildRose42 @PrussianWizards @CleverDual @Firedawn @Dragondreamer @Shadow104 @ScaledBookworm @LuminusPrime @CrAZDragon @DragonMist @Shadowhunter43 @Digimon11 @Avu42 @MythicalMemeLord @GhostBreath @Vyxen @VioletEevee @Verdant @Sanddollar @Faolyn @Bluebirdi3 @ThornOfStorm130 @ObsidianMage @TropicalDiamonds @fenshae @Birdleap18 @Catkidemma @WhoOwlborn @Bitterbluesky @RedFennel Sorry about the [s]short[/s] boring-ish update today my friends. [item=Depleted Sacridite] (I meowed today :3) Day 62: "No fair! You guys kept on playing without me!" Opal cried out, aghast, once everyone had returned to the inn. "You were away for a while." Juno pointed out, her attention snagged away by a bowl of interesting looking salad Jade and just lifted out of a clean white box. "So Rikki taught me a few tricks. Can we eat now?" She added hopefully, subconsciously reaching for the salad bowl. Jade chckled. "Sure!" She chirped. In the blink of an eye, Juno snatched up a whole tomato and wedged it into her mouth, contentedly chewing as red juice trickled down her chin. Jade grinned. "We should let the boys join in too." she added with a sideways smile. Juno nodded vigorously, her mouth still full of tomato. The green spiral turned to twist open the door that connected the two rooms, and the second it swung open Romeo came bounding in, flourishing the pale blue narwhal scroll in his talons. "Look what Opal got us!" he crooned excitedly. "Oh, hey! Food!" Juno grabbed the scroll out of his talons and began inspecting it as Romeo proceeded to stuff crickets into his mouth. Odyssey followed close behind, warily eying everything as he entered the room. He cautiously approached the table. Jade beamed at him and pushed forward another box, flicking it open with a light twitch of her claws and pulling out a steaming platter of a wide assortment of meats. Odyssey's eyes grew wide at the sight of it, but he still hesitated, self-consciously shuffling his feet. Jade smiled at him. He reminded her of Zaffer when she had first met the young imperial. Hungry and longing for food, but unsure whether it was okay to eat it. "Go on." She encouraged softly. "It won't be any use if you don't eat it." Odyssey visibly relaxed and immediately snatched up a boneless chicken wing. "Thank you." Odyssey said earnestly, his eyes carrying untouched stories of his past. Within a heartbeat he tore into the chunk of roasted meat he held with the ferocity of a. . . well, with the ferocity of a starved wildclaw hatchling. "Scrolls?" A small voice asked behind Opal. The nocturne nearly jumped out of her scales, twisting around to come face-to-face with Satira. "Oh. . . yes, scrolls." Opal continued awkwardly. She dropped them on the floor at the foot of her 'bed', since the table was occupied by a buffet. Satira inspected them curiously, a new passion lighting up her eyes as she surveyed the rolls of paper lined up in front of her. "This one!" She decided eagerly, tapping the thickest scroll in the set. Opal blinked. "This one?" The nocturne echoed, hefting it up into her talons. Satira nodded happily and reached for it, stumbling slightly as the scroll was dropped into her small talons. "That's the one about Rivermouth." Opal reminded her, staring as the nocturne managed to roll the scroll open over the floor. "Cool!" Satira mused, an eerie grin dancing over her lips. She found herself a comfortable place on the ground, curling her tail over her talons as she began to read. She started contentedly gnawing on a thick strip of meat she had grabbed from the food platter. Soon everyone else spilled through the doors, Ajax and Janus pulled along by Aster, a bewildered August who was caught off guard as Opal jumped onto his back, and an uneasy-looking Zaffer who cautiously edged through the doorway, followed quickly by Ash, Myu, and Oliver. "Where's the seafood?" Aurora asked, eying all the boxes. "Oh, it's that one." Juno said absently, pointing at a box that sat behind the opened salad one, which was now being voraciously attacked by Aster. Aurora fanned feathers on her crest as she cautiously pulled over the box and pried it open. "Huh. It is." Aurora mused, her eyes settling on neatly placed rows of all sorts of crustaceans, mussels, and fish. "How'd you know?" She asked innocently. "It reeks of the ocean." Juno explained, glancing up from her narwhal scroll with a crooked smile. Aurora blinked at her. "Does it?" She wondered, sniffing the open box. "Tundras have heightened olfactory glands." Zaffer explained coming up next to her. "Juno can smell things about a hundred times better than the rest of us." Juno hummed gleefully to herself and focused back on the scroll, a smug smile on her face. Aurora furrowed her brows at Zaffer. "I always suspected you were a nerd." She said, cracking a grin. Zaffer laughed through his teeth. "Not as much of a nerd as August." He added with a teasing grin at the skydancer. "Hey!" August retorted, while sharing a handful of lacewings with Opal. The nocturne giggled, ducking her head. Aurora grinned at the two of them, though there was obviously some sadness in her gaze. "Why the long face?" Zaffer asked her sympathetically. Aurora started, turning around to look at him. "Long. . ?" She echoed, mystified. Zaffer awkwardly tapped the ground with his claws. "Not, like, physically long. Just. . . sad." he explained. Aurora shook her head out, suddenly snapping back into reality. "Oh, what? I mean, yes, I know." She corrected. "I just. . . Oh! Silverside tetras!" She said hurriedly, snatching one up from the platter and stuffing it into her mouth in a rather successful attempt to change the subject. Zaffer blinked at her. "Right." he murmured, his blue cheeks reddening slightly with embarrassment. He eyed the platter of seafood warily. "I've never trusted myself to try the Dumpling Squids." he said, nervously poking a blobby yellow shape glistening with an orange sheen. "I'm always afraid it'll explode in my mouth." A smile rose onto Aurora's face and she quickly swallowed the tetra, picking up one of the squids Zaffer was nervously pointing to. "They do." She said, amusement sparking to life in her electric blue eyes. "But they also taste really good. Especially with tangy sauces, like, per say, the type this one has." She teasingly held the squid in front of Zaffer's nose. He made an anxious sound in his throat, which only made her smile more. "Come on, try it!" She insisted. "I'll do it with you! Arion never tries seafood." "That's because it's gross!" His voice called from across the room, from where the young blue spiral was intently scouring a map with Lost. Aurora stuck her forked tongue out at him and turned back to zaffer, delicately picking up another plump squid into her talons. "So? Wanna try?" She asked. "Hmph. Fine!" Zaffer said, snatching it out of her talons. Aurora beamed at him. "Awesome!" She trilled. "Now. . . go!" Together the two dragons each jammed the squids into their mouths, bracing themselves. Aurora scrunched her eyes shut as she squid burst inside her jaws, bathing her mouth in a beautifully rich flavor. Zaffer did it at the same time, but instead he looked like he had just stuck a balloon inflator into his mouth. Aurora nearly burst out laughing, which would have resulted in sticky orange stains all over the floor. Instead she finished chewing, biting her lip to keep herself from laughing out loud. Aurora finally swallowed, a grin splitting her face. "Wasn't it amazing?" She asked, beaming. Zaffer also swallowed, managing to look delighted, horrified, and mildly surprised at the same time. "It was. . . an experience." he decided, showing off his sauce-stained teeth with a small grin. "Come on. You totally liked it!" Aurora insisted. Zaffer chuckled gleefully to himself. "Maybe." He teased. "You certainly did." The grin fell from Aurora's face, replaced by a slightly miffed smile. Jade giggled. "Well, that was fun to watch." the green spiral said, laughter dancing in her eyes. "Just don't give any of the hatchlings any ideas." She added mischievously. "A lake!" Satira exclaimed out of the blue, her talon digging into a certain part of the parchment she was reading. "What?" Jade wondered, turning her attention to the hatchling Satira raised her head to meet Jade's gaze, excitement shining in her mysterious purple eyes. "A lake!" She repeated excitedly. "In Rivermouth! We can go there!" A smile settled onto Jade's face. "That's not a bad idea." She admitted. "But let's wait until tomorrow, shall we? We have. . . a bit to do today." She added with a sideways glance at Zaffer and Aurora. Zaffer's face reddened slightly. "Okay, a lake sounds fun." He admitted, looking like he had suddenly acquired a headache. And with an indignant look at Aurora he added. "But no more citrusy exploding squids!" He demanded. The coatl grinned back. "No more exploding squids." She insisted earnestly. "I promise." ------ @AmberHive @mayanaz @Spottedleaf125 @Skyeset @Moon314 @WildRose42 @PrussianWizards @CleverDual @Firedawn @Dragondreamer @Shadow104 @ScaledBookworm @LuminusPrime @CrAZDragon @DragonMist @Shadowhunter43 @Digimon11 @Avu42 @MythicalMemeLord @GhostBreath @Vyxen @VioletEevee @Verdant @Sanddollar @Faolyn @Bluebirdi3 @ThornOfStorm130 @ObsidianMage @TropicalDiamonds @fenshae @Birdleap18 @Catkidemma @WhoOwlborn @Bitterbluesky @RedFennel I'm writing this while also writing a fanfiction and eating chicken burritos at the same time, internally cackling to myself.

"What?" Jade wondered, turning her attention to the hatchling

Satira raised her head to meet Jade's gaze, excitement shining in her mysterious purple eyes.

"I promise."

I'm writing this while also writing a fanfiction and eating chicken burritos at the same time, internally cackling to myself.

I couldn't cackle out loud, because then I'd spray sour cream all over my keyboard XP
