Day 19: "Opaaaaaaaal!" Romeo yelled, his high voice echoing loudly around the shafts of cliff the group was currently surrounded by. They were taking a quick brake in the Reedcleft Ascent, to hunt and gather and rest their wings. Romeo had other ides though. Opal shot up and over a nearby crag, her crystalline wings scattering patches of light onto the ground, much to everyone's irritation. "What is it little noodle?" She asked, soaring down to land beside him. At full length, Romeo easily reached over her head, but Opal still insisted on the noodle-ish nicknames. "We haven't played in a while, and Mommy and Daddy are being booooooring!" The hyperactive young spiral explained, throwing out his wings. Janus shifted uncomfortably in it resting position under a nearby tree, and Jade looked up from sorting the meat from seafood and shook her head at her son. "You're too big to climb on me now." She explained earnestly, despite the amused sheen in her eyes. Romeo stomped his feet and dramatically turned his back to her, twisting his tail around an ankle. The spiral tried to appear he didn't notice. Jade stifled a chuckle. "How about you two play pirates again?" She suggested. "You had so much fun plundering the food pile last time." Across the clearing, Poseidon snorted. "And kicking dirt into my snout." He reminded everyone. "Not just your snout." Janus muttered, covering his ears with his talons. "I think I still might have earthworms up my nose." "I wanna play Pirates!" Romeo exclaimed jubilantly with a gleaming grin. he scurried over to Jade and threw his wings around her neck. "Thanks, mommy" Jade smiled and pecked her son on the cheek. "Just try to avoid camp this time, okay?" She asked. Romeo nodded feverishly and dashed away, stumbling awkwardly over his short legs, and ironically kicking dirt into the air. Jade giggled at Janus's expression, who just turned away with an eye roll. "Who will be our boat this time? Mommy can't carry me anymore." Romeo asked, a deep sadness in his voice. "Zaffer can do it!" Opal volunteered. "He can definitely carry us both. And Juno!" Romeo beamed, his downcast demeanor simply gone. "Yes!" He squealed, rearing around. "I think they're over here, come on!" Romeo charged across the small cliffy plateau, with Opal racing after him, until they stumbled across one hulking iridescent blue dragon standing awkwardly beside a fluffier small one. At the sight of the two, Zaffer's eyes widened and a claw flew to his lips, shushing them. Romeo immediately threw himself onto the ground, rolling over like a beach ball twice before coming to a stop. Sheets of soil flew into the air around him, landing square onto Juno's neatly groomed fluff. "Arghh, you peasant!" The tundra cried, bolting to her feet in a blink. Romeo stumbled back, shielding his face with his wings. "You shall not besmirch my preened fur!" Opal coughed awkwardly, trying to, unsuccessfully, hide a bout of laughter. "What?" Juno snapped at Opal, her high and mighty queen speak vanishing. "Your bizarre bright blue bungee cord ruined by fur!" Okay, well. Except for the alliterative part. "Juno, do not speak to your clan mates that way." Zaffer growled, his expression darkening. juno shuffled her paws, ducking down her head. "Sorry, Zaffer." He mumbled. "I don't listen to what i say when I'm angry." Opal resisted a snort. That's not obvious at all. She sarcastically joked to herself. Juno turned back to them, and Opal wiped and expression of amusement off her face. "What are you two doing here anyway?" She asked. "You two are supposed to be hunting over there." "You weren't hunting either!" Romeo fumed, hunching his shoulders over and glaring at Juno. Juno's eyes sparked and the opened her mouth to retort, when Opal stepped in and slapped her jaws shut with one wing. Juno winced, giving her a hurt look. "Seeing as neither of us were hunting, how about we play a game?" Zaffer's face contorted, not knowing how to react to this news. Since he hatched, games could either be good or bad for him, especially with Opal. But juno brightened. "We can play pirates!" Opal hollered, as if making a dramatic reveal. "All we need is a captain," She began, looking pointedly at Romeo, who smirked smugly. "A hoarder," She continued, glancing at Juno. The tundra stared back blankly. "Someone who hoards and protects all the riches we collect." Opal clarified, earning a grin from Juno. "A scout." Opal pointed to herself Then she turned to Zaffer, where anguish was winning out of the battle for his face. "And a ship!" Zaffer groaned and massaged his temples. Juno giggled at this, while Romeo began to clamber over Zaffer's wing, flapping his wings for support. "Why do I have to be the ship?" He mewled as Juno leapt onto his neck, clinging on with her little claws as she began to slide off. "Because you're the only dragon here big enough to be one!" Opal chirped reasonably. She sauntered up to him and punched his shoulder. "Besides, I bet you enjoy this more than you think you do." "That makes no sense." Zaffer pointed point. Opal's brows shot up. "Or is that just what you wants you to think?" She said ominously, sliding out of view. Zaffer sighed, rolling his eyes. Now Juno was comfortably clinging onto his neck, in a heated battle with Romeo about where the captain should sit, and Opal landed flat on his head, her claws smushing Zaffer's eyes shut. "Romeo," She hissed from atop Zaffer's head. "Now's your cue!" Romeo didn't even bother to look up at her, for he was too busy glaring at Juno. "This fluorescent foolish frivolous fur ball is sitting in the captain's spot!" He snapped. Juno swatted at him with her wing, baring her abnormally sharp teeth for a tundra. "Romeo, do not speak to your clan mates like that!" Zaffer retorted, trying to keep opal balanced non his head. Romeo ducked his head, but still glared at Juno out of the corner of his eye. "How about you steer Zaffer's wings, Romeo?" Opal offered. "That's what the captain does after all." Romeo speculated for a moment, then with a sweeping motion pun around and stumbled over Zaffer's uneven back towards his wings. "Good idea. I will choose where to go." he declared with a pointed look at Juno. She stuck her tongue out at him. Romeo turned back to the wing and began speaking to it. "I will call my ship the Super Shiny Zaffer!" He announced. Opal chuckled. "S.S. Zaffer for short." She noted. Romeo chuckled. "Yeah, like what Poseidon told be about the Seeing of Thousands Currants. I still don't know what seeing thousands of currants means. I'd just eat them." Opal laughed so hard the needed to cough to clear her lungs, leaning dangerously onto one side of Zaffer's head. "How about we just set sail Captain?" She recommended, righting herself. "Good idea." Romeo warbled, placing his tiny claws of zaffer's wing. "Away, away, Super Shiny!" Romeo shouted, nudging the wing with his nose and pushing as hard as he could against Zaffer's wing with his scrawny arms. "Aye aye, Noodle Capt'n!" Zaffer responded, slowly unfurling his wings. Opal poked one of his ears with a claw, a sign she understood the joke. "Faster, Shiny Zaffer!" She demanded, smacking the back of his neck with her tail. "Faster!" With a mocking flick of his tail, Zaffer sprang into the air, feeling Juno's grip tightened around his neck. "Everything is fine, treasure Hoarder Juno." Opal assured her. "We're just going to steal a few frogs and worms from the food pile. Then off to adventure!" She ried, tugging at Zaffer's mane. "Yes yes, I get it. Adventure, snacks, and more adventuring snacks. Be patient." He snapped. "No!" Romeo retorted. "No patient! No waitingness! Adventure NOW!" He demanded, bouncing up and down on zaffer's back. the imperial rolled his eyes, but couldn't hide a chuckle. [item=firebelly weaver][item= fig] [item=discipline] (New dragon :D I hatched this cutie in my own lair. She's going to very interesting >w<) Day 20: "Why do we have to play pirates again?" Zaffer asked, untangling Romeo from his tail. "Because we are pirates!" The spiral insisted, tightening his grip. Zaffer sighed and gave up, dragging Romeo through the air with his tail as he sauntered over to Opal, who was curiously prodding a pair of Overripe Cherries. "What are you doing?" Zaffer asked, rolling his eyes. "These cherries are frauds!" Declared Opal, flinging her wings out and glaring at the cherries. "Opal, cherries can't be frauds." Zaffer insisted. Opal turned and flung the cherries over the edge of the crag the dragons were clustered on, and watched as the fruits plummeted satisfyingly over the edge of the world. "Those two cherries sure were." Opal snarled, sneering after them. "Frauds! Scams. Cons. Or fakes. Whatever you want to call them!" Zaffer silently shook his head, which Opal apparently took as a signal to jump on top of. Zaffer let out a small 'oof' as her weight landed on his forehead. "And why do fake cherries matter?" He asked. Opal's weight shifted as the nocturne stuck her nose into the air. "I will not have my Hoarder hoard fake cherries." She explained. "Fake cherries are bad!" Juno agreed from Zaffer's back, clutching the precious "treasure", which consisted of one Zephyr Sparrow, two scraps of shimmering bronze fabric, and a very shiny bloodstone. "Fake cherries aren't worthy of riding on the Super Shiny Zaffer!" Romeo intercepted, finally clambering off of Zaffer's tail to ride on his back. "Now Scout," He started, looking pointedly at Opal. "Go scout!" "Okay, Noodle Capt'n!" Opal answered, giving him a two clawed salute. She jumped off of Zaffer's head and soared into the sky, twisting back to deliver one last message. "But no fraud cherries!" She called, raising her wings and flitting to the next cliff, which held a beautiful bamboo forest. Romeo grinned after her, then stated bounding up and down only the way a spiral could on Zaffer's back. "Follow the scouting scout!" He insisted, poking Zaffer's delicate wings with his snout again. Zaffer obeyed obligingly, soaring up to the forest that Opal had disappeared into with a simple flap of his wing. They hovered above a hundred-foot drop for several precarious moments before plunging into the cooling shadows of the bamboo forest. "Yay, riding the S.S. Zaffer is fun!" Juno warbled, tightly hugging his neck. Zaffer smiled and lowered his right wing, allowing Romeo and Juno to slide off with ease. "Now go find your scout-y scout and see what sort of forbidden cockroach she found this time." He suggested, tightly tapping both of them with his tail. "Already found." opal chirped from behind them. All the dragon whirled around to see Opal neatly crouched on the grassy floor, something very round and very iridescent in her claws. "Opal, is that. . ." Zaffer began, trailing off as he looked harder at the object. "A Pearlcatcher's pearl, yup." Opal clarified, for once overcome by seriousness. "I'm trying to find out who it belong to." She mumbled, holding up the pearl so the sunlight that showered down fro about danced across it's gleaming surface. "I wanna look for a pearl dragon!" Romeo chirped excitedly. "Poseidon told they have whiskers and shiny things, that would be great treasure!" "I've never owned whiskers before!" Juno added, grinning goofily. As if on command, the two of them bolted separately into the bamboo forest, hollering things like 'Pearlie' and 'Whiskers' into the darkness. Zaffer groaned. "I take the Tundra and you the spiral?" He suggested. Opal shrugged, lifting the pearl up to her eyes again. "Honestly, I'm with them. i would love to find out who thing belongs to. . ." She trailed off, as a pair of curious slitted, pale green eyes was inspecting them curiously out of the shadows. Zaffer froze, feeling an odd vibrating sensation in his skull that out him on-edge, even though he knew this couldn't be any more than a young dragon. A Pearlcatcher, most likely. Opal inched forward and rolled the pearl onto the ground, where it subtly came to a spot a tail-length away from the hatchling's prying eyes. "There you go." She whispered quietly, gazing back into the curious eyes. The dragonet slowly inched into the light, which scattered into millions of bits as it was reflected off of the newcomer's scales, which were the same exact hue as it's pearl. It bore fragile butterfly wings, not unlike Zaffer's, that shone a distorted black in the sunlight, and swaths of scales all along it's body had been replaced with pure, shimmering gemstone material. Long slender whiskers fell down to it's tiny claws, which hesitantly clasped themselves around the exterior of the pearl. The Pearlcatcher looked back up to them, gratitude etched into the lines of it's young face, and nodded at them. But it didn't move or smile. Just sat there, inspecting the reflections on the pearl's surface. "Who are you?" Opal asked, curiously, tilting her head towards the hatchling. The Pearlcatcher suddenly tensed, hugging it's pearl closely to it's chest. "I'm lost." It squeaked, the voice high but husky, full of accidental foreboding. She crawled up to Opal and Zaffer's talons, looking up at them with pleading eyes. "Please help me. I'm lost." Opal and Zaffer shared queasy looks. "Yeah, sure we'll help you." Opal said crouching down to look the hatchling in the eyes. "But what's your name?" The pearlcatcher silently shook her head, her pale green eyes flitting about the forest, flinching at every shifting shadow. "Please," She chocked, reaching out with her claws. "Help me. I'm lost!" Opal turned to Zaffer, nervousness clouding her bright eyes. "Go find Juno and Romeo." She hissed to him. Zaffer nodded and took off into the forest without a word, trailing the faint voice that still rung out over the crisp air. "We'll bring you back to camp with us." Opal promised, turning back to the Pearlcatcher and lifting her gently onto her shoulders. Opal braced herself as little claws fumbled at her back, trying to get a good hold around her neck. "And then we can help get you home." "Home." The Pearlcatcher breathed in a wispy voice, her eyes misting as if she was speaking of some faraway paradise. "I want to go home. I'm lost." Opal nodded, invisible relief sweeping through her as the thumping of multiple dragon talons reached her ears. "Right you are, but I need to bring you to my home first, okay?" The pearlcatcher squeezed her neck reassuringly for a moment, signaling she wasn't going anywhere. Just then, Zaffer and the two hatchlings burt through the trees, running all on their own without clinging to a larger dragon. "You found Whiskers!" Juno blurted, dashing up to Opal and staring curiously at the dragon on her back. The Pearlcatcher stared back until Juno awkwardly turned away. Finally, someone who can outstare Juno. Opal joked to herself. "Why does the pearl get to ride on Opal?" Romeo mewled. "Is it because they're both so shiny?" Zaffer came up to him and nudged the spiral's shoulder, drawing his attention. "We'll worry about that when we get back to camp." He explained, crouching down and obediently dipping his head. "Now you and Juno need to get on the S.S. Zaffer so we can go there." Both hatchlings beamed and eagerly scrambled onto his back. Opal shot Zaffer a smile. "Thanks." She mouthed. Zaffer smiled back. Juno prodded Zaffer's wing with a small claw. "Can we go home now? I want to know more about Whiskers." The Tundra squeaked. The Pearlcatcher clinging to Opal's neck murmured, "Home" again, wistfully staring into the space. Romeo butted in. "What's your real name?" he asked curiously. The Pearlcatcher turned to catch him in her unblinking chartreuse gaze. "I'm lost." She explained once again. "Please help me. I want to go home." zaffer glanced anxiously at Opal, but she just shrugged. Romeo, on the other hand, giggled. "Okay, Lost." He sniggered. "The dragon you are sitting on is Opal. I'm Romeo, the fluffy one is Juno, and the huge shiny other blue dragon is Zaffer." The Pearlcatcher, newly named 'Lost', surveyed each of the dragons around her and quietly nodded. "Great!" Romeo chirped, doing his signature, wing-poking on Zaffer. Zaffer sighed and launched himself to the air, slowly followed by Opal, who staggered clumsily about in the sky. "I will never sit on your head again." She promised. Zaffer chuckled. "Use your entire wing to try and find a current, that'll help." He suggested. Opal did as she was told and smoothy sailed into the air. "I already knew that you know." She snapped. "You just reminded me." Zaffer rolled his eyes. "I don't doubt it." He replied with a cheeky smirk. Opal whacked him with her tail. "Let's just get our Lost sightseer here back home, okay?" Zaffer nodded, shifting his wings to glide further along. Opal followed, the mysterious Lost pearlcatcher clinging to her back, thinking thoughts of home and help and monsters that scared young watching into being, Lost. ------- @AmberHive @Moonsong48 @Spottedleaf125 @KallyPaige @Skyeset @Moon314 @WildRose42 @PrussianWizards @CleverDual @Firedawn @Dragondreamer @ScaledBookworm @LuminusPrime @CrAZDragon @DragonMist @Shadowhunter43 Sorry this is a day late! Day 20:
"Why do we have to play pirates again?" Zaffer asked, untangling Romeo from his tail. "Because we are pirates!" The spiral insisted, tightening his grip. Zaffer sighed and gave up, dragging Romeo through the air with his tail as he sauntered over to Opal, who was curiously prodding a pair of Overripe Cherries. "What are you doing?" "Fake cherries aren't worthy of riding on the Super Shiny Zaffer!" Romeo intercepted, finally clambering off of Zaffer's tail to ride on his back. "Now Scout," He started, looking pointedly at Opal. "Okay, Noodle Capt'n!" Opal answered, giving him a two clawed salute.

"Poseidon told they have whiskers and shiny things, that would be great treasure!"

"I've never owned whiskers before!" Juno added, grinning goofily. "Honestly, I'm with them. i would love to find out who thing belongs to. . ."

She trailed off, as a pair of curious slitted, pale green eyes was inspecting them curiously out of the shadows.

I'm lost."

Opal and Zaffer shared queasy looks. "Help me. I'm lost!"

Opal turned to Zaffer, nervousness clouding her bright eyes. "And then we can help get you home."

"Home." The Pearlcatcher breathed in a wispy voice, her eyes misting as if she was speaking of some faraway paradise.

Zaffer so we can go there."

Both hatchlings beamed and eagerly scrambled onto his back.

"You just reminded me."

Zaffer rolled his eyes.

Mouth with very pointy teeth." Lost added, opening her own for for example. The tiny white points were nothing in comparison to what she was probably talking about. "Also sometimes very pokey hands and many faces, but also not-" Poseidon's crest feathers raised in fear before Lost declared the end of her sentence. "The shade!" He hissed, leaping to his feet as if he expected the very shadows surrounding him would start trying to eat him. Jade and Janus shared worried glance that hid the heart-stabbing fear underneath. Zaffer dipped his head as well, but Opal tilted her head in confusion. August winced in pain and gingerly touched the jewel on his forehead. "What's so terrifying about 'The Shade'?" He asked, gingerly rubbing his temples. Zaffer looked away, and Janus and Poseidon both ducked their heads, so Jade took over the explaining. "The Shade is an extremely powerful entity that ravaged Sornieth in the early ages." She explained, clutching shaking talons together. "It's described as a "roaming plague of darkness" that seems to seek to devour the world and destroy it forever. It is an immense threat to our world of dragons, easily stronger than the Deities." August winced as the fear from the surrounding dragons washed over him in ongoing waves. Jade, unfazed, decided to continue, her eyes here glazed over and she stared at the ground as she spoke. "The Shade is difficult to describe because of its nature as an otherworldly force." She muttered ominously. "What is known is that its power is utterly immense, able to overwhelm the eight early gods at once and last through a multi-century war before being destroyed." "Its appearance is mostly as vague as its powers, best described as an enormous mass of sentient darkness that teems with many hands, limbs and tendrils of smoky blackness, as well as countless sharp-toothed maws in it's body, void of a specific shape." Jade uttered. "Just as our little friend here described." "How did you get away?" Poseidon demanded, whirling on the young hatchlings. "You must have been very young, almost too young to name. How did you get away?" Lost scooted back from him, here eyes growing wide with fear. "It tried to eat me!" She squeaked. "Then mum and papa made wind." She explained, flourishing her tiny claws in the air as description. "And then I flied away fast and got lost." Poseidon blanched. "Look at her pearl." He suggested softly to Opal. "It's the mirror of all her memories. You might see a reflection of the shade within." Opal crept forward, and when Lost didn't shy away, trained her green-eyes gaze onto the pearl clasped in her talons. An faint image of Zaffer and Opal herself flickered over it's surface, but Opal scrunched her nose up at it. Wrong memory. She murmured internally, looking again. This time, a blob of darkness that reached out tendrils of fear even though it was a reflection swooped onto it's surface, melting and changing shape, fluxing from a massive, savage doglike creature with one head and cruel pointy teeth to a small, wider form with many more heads. Opal reared back, flashing her wings wide. "It is the shade!" She cried, clawing at her head. Poseidon tensed. "How do we know it didn't follow her?" He asked urgently. In that very moment, everything in the forest stilled, and the shadows seemed to swell and grow, hungrily reaching out for the dragon's claws. "We don't." Jade choked out. The shadows reared and leaped up and out of the ground, coming together in a whirling mass of dark energy to form a creature darker than death itself. Poseidon snarled at it's appearance, fear flashing in his eyes as he tore a stick of bamboo from the ground nearby to welded it menacingly at the creature before him. Jade shrieked and lunged to shield Romeo from the savage sight, bundling Juno out of view as well. Janus coiled protectively in front of her as Zaffer leaped away from it, his wings frantically beating the air. Lost's eyes grew in size as she relived horrid memories of her past, the blood and magical auras of her clanmates staining this beast's constantly shifting faces. It made it's mind up on the shape of a short, thick, serpent-like creature with two heads with savage teeth and hundreds of stubby legs and feet lining it's body. Opal stepped in front of Lost, baring her teeth. The creature took one look around the clearing, and recognizing Lost, lunged for the two dragons, coils of darkness reaching out of it's mouth to hungrily devour all the magical aura in front of it. "Opal!" August yelled, flinging himself into the silver nocturne and sending all three dragons, including Lost, tumbling into the edges of the clearing, surrounded by brambles and bamboo. August spread his wings, shielding Opal, as the shade monster regained it's feet, hissing and spitting horribly. It sprung again, and before August could react, sunk it's dagger-edged teeth of darkness into the skydancer's tail. August released a shriek so loud ever bit of wildlife around them would have run for the hills if they hadn't already. He squeezed his eyes shut and started hyperventilating, clawing at the ground. He used his rapidly departing strength to lift his head and see Opal and Lost lingering close to one another, wide-eyed and open-mouthed. "Run." August croaked, the pain of his life energy and magical aura being sapped combined with the fear from the other dragons stinging his skull like a white hot dagger nearly throwing him into unconsciousness. "You run, Lost." Opal commanded, shoving the Pearlcatcher deeper into the forest. Lost obligingly obeyed, fleeing into forest as Opal lowered her head to stare straight into August's eyes, which were rapidly losing their shine. "I won't let you die, okay?" She insisted, a fiercely desperate spark in her eyes. "Don't die, or I will be very angry with you." Through the storm of fear and hate raging in hit head, the faint glow of a warmer, more slippery emotion ebbed to life in his mind, coming from no one other than Opal. August struggled for breath, just barley managing to bob his head. Opal's eyes began to glow a vibrant green. "Good." She growled, emerald light sparking to life between her claws. With a furious roar, the nocturne plunged her claws into the ground, sending thick coils of thorned vines rumbling under the surface of the earth until they erupted out of the soil from straight beneath The Shade. The monster of darkness was thrown back, it's menacing coils were ripped away from August's scales, and the exhausted Skydancer let air flood into his lungs. The Shade was thrown back into the air, but it regained himself and found a new target nearest to itself. Which happened to be Poseidon. The monster batted his bamboo stick away away before the coatl even knew what was going on. He flung himself at August, but was caught midair in the Shade's evil jaws, which sunk horribly into his body as sickening blades of darkness. "Nooooo!" Opal shrieked, losing her intensity. The green glow ebbed away, leaving her slumped at the edge of the forest, eyes trained on Poseidon like a zombie, as if she were unable to tear her eyes away. August heaved himself to his feet and stumbled around to glare the shade in the face, when Poseidon's claw lifted limply. "No, don't save me, not after you were already by someone so valiant." He croaked, with the slim edge of a smile. "It's too late." It was then as if his pale blue eyes held every emotion he's every had, from stressed anger to overwhelmed joy. "Just make sure Laria knows. . ." He trailed off, eyes nearly drained of color. Opal snapped back to life, green energy igniting on her body again. "Don't leave us!" She shrieked. Her claws plowed into the dirt again, and more gnarled vines sprung from the earth, flinging the monster with Poseidon in it's jaws into the air. She was centered on her spell, bent on revenge and beating the monster over and over again in the air with her spiked plants, like some wicked game of baseball. Suddenly, Lost was at her side. The pearlcatcher raised a tiny talon, rimmed with the same substance the shade consisted of, and lightly touched the ground right near Opal's claws. The vines became for rotten and twisted, their formerly natural thorns sharpening into sickly metal spikes. With one cruel blow, a savage hole was torn though the creature's sickly substance, but it didn't let go of it's prey. Instead, it reformed as it was hurdled in Zaffer direction. The imperial, with little time to react, threw out his wings, his whole body humming with magenta energy. The instant The Shade made contact with his scales it was blown back with the force of an explosion, a ringing echo ricocheting around in everyone's skulls. The Shade was thrown into the ground, growling gutturally. It flared it's arms menacingly as the surrounding dragons, and with a sudden explosion of darkness, melted into the shadows once again. Everyone was just quiet for a really long time. The thick silence was finally severed by Opal abruptly turning and flinging her wings around August's neck, burying her face in his chest. Her body was quickly overcome by wracking sobs, and August slid reassuring wings over her shoulders. Everyone else started moving around, awkwardly avoiding eye contact to mourn in their own tiny way. "I could only save you." Opal wept, trying to pull herself together. But that only resulted in more tears staining her face. "Poseidon would be proud you saved me." August reminded her softly. "He was proud. Didn't you hear?" Opal tightened her grip on his firm shoulders, looking up into his eyes. "But I knocked it towards him." She said miserably. "It all my fault The Shade k-" "Shhh." August said, putting a claw to her snout. "Don't say it like that. It was the last thing in the world you meant to do." Opal blinked back more tears. August continued. "It would have still attacked someone else. You definitely saved me." He reminded her, tapping Opal's forehead. He raised his tail, showing numerous ominously black sucker marks puncturing it's tip. "And now I've got these really cool scars." A laugh escaped Opal's sorrowful expression, and she it her lower lip guiltily. "Poseidon wouldn't want you to keep from laughing because he's gone." August reminded her, taking a dare and playfully nudging her snout with is. "And I'm pretty sure the others feel just as guilty as you do." Opal nodded somberly and slowly pulled away. "We should still mourn him now, though." She murmured, holding August's green-eyed gaze. "He was a great dragon, and he suffered a lot before we found him." More tears slid down her face, and August willed himself to wipe one away. "Of course." He promised, taking one of her talons and squeezing it gently. "Just don't let the darkness overwhelm you." "I won't." Opal replied, rubbing her remaining tears away. She smiled softly up at August."And hopefully neither will you." She continued, sliding her talon out of August's grasp and gingerly placing it on his heart. It almost jerked to a stop. "I don't think that's possible." August mumbled, returning Opal's emotional look. Sensing what he implied, Opal drew back, but a bit hesitantly, August noted. "Don't get too cocky." Opal teased with a bit less spunk than usual. "Now let's get to mourning before you get any other ideas." ------- @AmberHive @Moonsong48 @Spottedleaf125 @KallyPaige @Skyeset @Moon314 @WildRose42 @PrussianWizards @CleverDual @Firedawn @Dragondreamer @ScaledBookworm @LuminusPrime @CrAZDragon @DragonMist @Shadowhunter43 @Digimon11 @Faolyn @FluffyGlacier @WhoOwlborn @PuellaFortis This was a handful to write.

Didn't you hear?"

Opal tightened her grip on his firm shoulders, looking up into his eyes. "But I knocked it towards him." She said miserably. "It all my fault The Shade k-"

"Shhh." August said, putting a claw to her snout. "And now I've got these really cool scars."

A laugh escaped Opal's sorrowful expression, and she it her lower lip guiltily. "Poseidon wouldn't want you to keep from laughing because he's gone." August reminded her, taking a dare and playfully nudging her snout with is. "And I'm pretty sure the others feel just as guilty as you do."

Opal nodded somberly and slowly pulled away. "Just don't let the darkness overwhelm you."

"I won't." Opal replied, rubbing her remaining tears away.

"Now let's get to mourning before you get any other ideas."

This was a handful to write. We've had our first death (WWWWWWHHHHHHYYYYYY POOOSSSEEEIIIIDDOOOOOONN!!), and out first hardcore Opaugust shipping moment (The adrenaline is so REAL). This was really fun to write, despite it's saddening qualities, and I hope Poseidon will be remembered by you all :'(
