Breaking Point, Legacy of War Challenge

Breaking point. Noun.
The moment of greatest strain at which someone or something gives way.

What this is?

This thread is here to catalogue my full Legacy of War Challenge. A Legacy of War Challenge is the Flight Rising Legacy Challenge with danger cranked up to high, heirs chosen through survival of the fittest. What better setting for this than the Scarred Wasteland, you might ask? None!

You can find my challenge in the main Legacy of War thread, but this thread contains more lore events that occur between new generations, contested heirs, and nestings. This thread also has mates meeting, what happens in cooldown periods, and more. If you only want to read the bare bones, simply skip chapters listed in italics.

My challenge has a slight difference from the others. The legacy line isn't so much obsessed with the idea of a legacy, so much as simple survival. The mates generally aren't forcing their hatchlings into battle to pluck out the strongest to continue the line. The Scarred Wasteland is just obsessed with killing all but the strongest.

The other challenges recommend buying or hatching a G1, but you could be lazy like me and buy the cheapest triple-basic plentiful dragon on the Auction House. 2. Buy the founder a mate. The only rules here is that they must be breedable with the founder and cost 10kt or less!

The original Legacy Challenge states that they must be in the same flight as your founder (or heir, by extension), but as far as I'm concerned this is optional. However, if you had two to five eggs, go to the heir selection quote box below this one. Follow the instructions there. 5. Once your heir has been selected (or defaulted to), buy them a mate. This mate must be worth 10kt times the current generation number or less off the Auction House. So for Gen 2 your price ceiling will be 20kt, for Gen 3 it will be 30kt, and so on. 6. Some general rules for these scenarios are as follows:

---

1. You must keep a battle streak going, even if your dragons level up between fights. This is to prevent you from inputting points into areas that would allow one contender to be more likely to succeed over another.

Now, depending on how many hatchlings your nest had, here is how the battles will occur...

~

2 Eggs

1. Send both of the contenders (and the coach, if using one) to the Training Fields. Begin your battle streak. If you use a coach and they faint first, keep going; they have no effect on the final outcome.

2. Keep going until one of the contenders faints! The survivor will carry on the legacy.

3 Eggs

1. Send all three of the contenders into the Training Fields. Begin your battle streak.

2. When one of the contenders faints, keep going. They may look alive, but they have been officially disqualified.

3. When another contender faints, you may stop! The survivor will carry on the legacy.

4 Eggs

1. Send the first two contenders by birth order (hatchlings 1 and 2) into the Training Fields (with a coach, if using). Begin your battle streak. If you use a coach and they faint first, keep going; they have no effect on the final outcome.

2. Keep going until one of them faints. Set aside the survivor for now.

6. Commence the final battle streak with the winners from the first two and keep going until one of them faints. The survivor will carry on the legacy.

5 Eggs

1. Flip a coin. If it lands on heads, then the middle hatchling (3) will be in a trio with the first two hatchlings (1 and 2). If it lands on tails, then the middle hatchling will be in a trio with the last two hatchlings (4 and 5).

Like with the 3-egg nest, the first fainter isn't ushered out between streaks; though they will appear alive, they are disqualified upon fainting. Keep going until a second dragon faints. Quentrell pawed through fallen weapon racks and walked around limp bodies. The small settlement had been raided and he was hoping to find something of use. Food, he had already found. He tried multiple weapons, but none really fit his claws in the right way. He did find a couple pieces of broken armor that he could put together in a night. Those would work. Then he stepped into something wet. Flinching, hoping he didn’t step in a blood pool, he glanced down to see a crumpled Fae. He bit his lip, nudging it slightly. A small flutter. Blinking a few times, he quickly scooped the dragon up. He rummaged through his findings and came up with a scarf to wrap her in, the Fae looked like a her up close. It would work for the time being. He took a cursory look around, before hurrying off to his own little den for the night. The night was spent hunched over a small rock, as his claws worked on putting the armor pieces he had found back together. They didn’t look like they were in great condition, nor were they from the same set, but armor was armor. He would rather be protected. He glanced over to the smaller dragon repeatedly through the hours, but she didn’t budge the whole time. He fell asleep in a safer place than where she had been. Fluttering… Fluttering. What was fluttering? He pried an eye open in the dim lighting to see more movement than color. Ah, his Fae friend had awoken. She looked a lot like the morning, desert colors. Probably why she was still alive. “Nice to see that you’re awake.” he said, still shaking sleep off. The fluttering stopped. “Who are… you?” an unsure monotone response. “Quentrell, you?” “Where am I?” He was ignored, that was pleasant. Not really, but maybe non-deadly company was. “You are in my lair, my dear.” He waved off her quizzical expression - he thought it was quizzical at least, turning to sort through a couple of his bags. Travel supplies. Scraps. Ah, food. He continued speaking, seeing how his friend was silent. “I found you amidst a rather nasty place. Wherever you are from was raided. Looked like you were the only one alive.” He glanced over his shoulder to see her frills flicking back and forth, as if she was trying to understand. He sighed quietly, not able to blame her. Her voice was higher, but still oddly monotoned to his ears. “Just me?” “Yep, just you. Looked like zero survivors.” “Zero?” “Zero.” “Say, do you have a name?” he asked again. “Zero…” “Okay, I’ll hold you to that though.” Quentrell murmured.

Fluttering…

Fluttering.

“Quentrell, you?”

“Where am I?”

He was ignored, that was pleasant. Not really, but maybe non-deadly company was.

“You are in my lair, my dear.”

He waved off her quizzical expression - he thought it was quizzical at least, turning to sort through a couple of his bags. Travel supplies. Scraps. Ah, food. He continued speaking, seeing how his friend was silent.

“I found you amidst a rather nasty place. Wherever you are from was raided. Looked like you were the only one alive.”

He glanced over his shoulder to see her frills flicking back and forth, as if she was trying to understand. He sighed quietly, not able to blame her. Her voice was higher, but still oddly monotoned to his ears.

“Just me?”

“Yep, just you. Looked like zero survivors.”

“Zero?”

“Zero.”

“Say, do you have a name?” he asked again.

“Zero…”

“Okay, I’ll hold you to that though.” Quentrell murmured.

After days of discussing survivability with her constantly flitting around the lair and him doing his best to ignore it, they decided to nest. Assuming the hatchlings could pick up as easily on finding food for themselves as Zero had, it would give them all better odds of survival. Not a bad deal, all things considered. Both of them were laying in the nest when a soft crackling jolted them awake. Quentrell uncurled from around a couple of the eggs, and ZeroHour flitted into the air, darting around each egg. The Pearlcatcher carefully turned a couple of them over, before gesturing to the faint fissure in one membrane. His mate gasped, perching on his shoulder. She drew closer to it only to have him gently bat her away. “Can’t we-” “No. Let them hatch on their own.” Both were still for a beat as the others jostled around, barely bouncing off of each other. “But-” “No, Zero. Let them be.” He nuzzled the disgruntled Fae, before staring intently at the first egg. A pointed frill prodded the egg’s membrane from the inside, poking it outward. It retracted only to jab hard enough to pop the membrane. The egg deflated, spilling out the ooze and half of a small frilled dragon. “Fae.” Zero said hushed, batting her wings as Quentrell gently pulled the Fae from the membrane that she was half covered in. She yawned, dropping her head in her father’s lap. He chuckled and cooed and at the little one’s steady gaze. His mate fluttered in excitement, before dropping off his shoulder to observe the other eggs. Once the movement out of the corner of his eye ceased, he looked to see where she had gone. He stood dazed for a second, seeing yet another hatchling staring right back at Zero. Neither of them heard the egg hatch. “Let him be. He’ll need time to eat and drink the egg, Zero.” The pair gazed at the larger hatchling, at least five times the size of the first. He was a pure beige Pearlcatcher, matching the Wasteland’s sands perfectly. The hatchling carefully set himself down in front of the remnants of his egg, intent on turning it into his pearl. ZeroHour’s frills rose and fell with what seemed to be her thoughts. Their second hatchling silently, steadily chewed on the reeking remnants of his egg. He was glad they didn’t remember hatchlinghood, because those eggs had to be the most vile out of all that could be eaten. A pop akin to a balloon’s pop had them turning to the next egg. A stony Pearlcatcher clawed and wriggled her way out of the membrane, refusing to let it trap her. He nodded again to Zero, impressed that they had Pearlcatchers and two at that. The girl nodded, proudly shaking off the goo. It punctured the egg, stopping the hearts of its parents. ZeroHour made an alarmed noise as she trembled, slowly flying over to the egg. While Quentrell didn’t move, every muscle in him tensed. Did they already lose one? ZeroHour plucked another Fae from the egg. She looked him over carefully, before reporting: “No injuries.” Her frills lowered into their normal position. Quentrell sighed, relaxing once more. “Lucky guy. Bright too.” Quentrell’s eyes widened, as the slime rolled off of the Fae. He could already see that he was larger than his Fae sister, but he was already wary of that one’s chances of surviving. He was too bright. ZeroHour glanced around at the hatchlings, before ducking over to the outside of the nest. She disappeared over the edge of it with how small she was. “Zero?” “Egg.” He frowned laying the hatchling sleeping in his lap onto the nest. He peered over the top of the nest’s edge, careful not to disturb their Pearlcatchers - unlike one of their other, brighter hatchlings from their girl’s hissing sound. The last egg rocked back and forth for some time, before splitting open. The egg completely drained and deflated, leaving a lump inside of it. ZeroHour flitted to its side, but the hatchling within writhed before thrashing enough to break through the top of the membrane. Another Fae wriggled out, looking around at her parents. ZeroHour cooed over her. Legacy Founders Nest

A few weeks had past since Quentrell had found the Fae, who he named ‘ZeroHour’ seeing that she had no name to tell him. Not a bad deal, all things considered.

Both of them were laying in the nest when a soft crackling jolted them awake. Quentrell uncurled from around a couple of the eggs, and ZeroHour flitted into the air, darting around each egg. Legacy Founders Nest - Assessment

A quick overview of the hatchlings in terms of the challenge. I'll be ranking them in terms of best heir for the challenge i.e. the most upgrades, the best upgrades, the best challenge fitting colors. I'll also include notes on best lore continuation and personal preference.

Hatchlings ranked from best to worst:

dragon?age=0&body=51&bodygene=10&breed=4&element=2&gender=0&tert=19&tertgene=0&winggene=0&wings=51&auth=04fa7629f2dbae715648c4c616cd952601209759&dummyext=prev.png The second child who silently hatched without anyone noticing.
Assiel has...
 • A Tier One breed upgrade.
 • 1 Tier One gene upgrade.
 • XXY coloration perfect for the Scarred Wasteland as a whole.

Lore assessment: Assiel is the kind of dragon who could hide himself and his lair easily. I could see him battling as an assassin type, catching food and trespassers with traps. The legacy would have high survivability.
dragon?age=0&body=52&bodygene=0&breed=4&element=2&gender=1&tert=22&tertgene=0&winggene=0&wings=53&auth=1559470c53652f854ff0db874b7c722c22de6cd1&dummyext=prev.png The proud fighter takes second place for preferred heir.
Sarannah has...
 • A Tier One breed upgrade.
 • Darker colors fitting for stalking the Wasteland nights.

Lore assessment: Sarannah is a tough and proud girl who can fight to defend herself and her legacy. She would be a strong contender for continuing the line.
dragon?age=0&body=51&bodygene=0&breed=1&element=2&gender=1&tert=126&tertgene=5&winggene=0&wings=139&auth=116cf32468cd4b86c84bb36febe5d26f839ca10e&dummyext=prev.png The last hatchling, pushed aside by her Fae brother and forced to fight her way out of her egg with even more difficulty.
Corinthia has...
 • 1 Tier One gene upgrade.
 • The perfect mix of her parents' looks, both fitting for the Wasteland and a delight in the challenge.
Lore assessment: Corinthia is the underdog who has to fight to survive. I won't spoil the next lore update, but put simply - she is willing to fight for it. In personal preference, she is my second preferred heir for lore.
dragon?age=0&body=52&bodygene=0&breed=1&element=2&gender=1&tert=17&tertgene=5&winggene=11&wings=44&auth=8ceccb22b0307c62287f1dbb69e0edb3963bcd44&dummyext=prev.png The firstborn who hatched well before the others. There was a pause between her hatching and Assiel's.
Lin has...
 • 2 Tier One gene upgrades.
Lore assessment: Lin is a sweet girl who has initiative, but is lacking in strength. She's not interested in fighting, which is a necessary skill in the Scarred Wasteland. Her lore makes her very likable, but she's definitely not an ideal heir in terms of legacy survivability.
dragon?age=0&body=51&bodygene=0&breed=1&element=2&gender=0&tert=90&tertgene=0&winggene=0&wings=84&auth=4b79e20de0e8518fde9d3b4442a09f2c8b153136&dummyext=prev.png The lucky, rambunctious boy who could have died, didn't die, and then proceeded to bother Sarannah, while she was working on forming a pearl.
Marlais has...
 • No upgrades.
 • Secondary color downgrade. His wings are anti-camouflage.
 • Tertiary color downgrade. His tertiary is a bright blue.
 • Overall assessment: Looks like a pool toy when scried.
Marlais's lore assessment: I know I shouldn't hold his colors against him, but he looks like a pool toy. Theoretically, he could probably land on his feet as the heir, but his survivability seems low and his bright colors scream food.

To recap:

 1. Double Beige PC, Assiel, is ideal.
 2. Triple basic PC, Sarannah, is a second for challenge upgrades, but the last hatched Fae, Corinthia, has better lore.
 3. The firstborn Fae, Lin, is decent in upgrades, but isn't fitting for lore.
 4. Marlais looks like a pool toy, has no upgrades, and is actually a downgrade.
dragon?age=0&body=51&bodygene=0&breed=1&element=2&gender=0&tert=90&tertgene=5&winggene=14&wings=84&auth=690bd11e4400841cba789c0a9bda19d257c5373b&dummyext=prev.png Are you kidding me, pool toy boy?
