[columns] __________ [nextcol] Once nothing more than a small group of dragons that could find no other home, Valhall grew into a place where anyone could find a place to belong. Now a large, sprawling clan perched in the Icefields, they retain their reputation as a haven for those in need of a new path and take in a plethora of dragons from all over the world. Valhallan values lie in strength, motivation, and morality. Those that seek to become their best selves will always find aid among the different members of the clan; there is no limit to what one can achieve here. And though they are strict, and their way of life may seem harsh and cold, these are loyal dragons with much to give. They are warriors at heart, this is undeniable, and they know to survive through even the harshest of times. For it is no secret that the frigid Icefields have no room for nonsense and weaklings-- in these lands you either learn what you need to or you perish beneath the Warden's gaze. This is the home of strength, of determination, of prosperity. __________ Hello, fren, it is I- the local procrastinator. I like dragons and writing stuff, so I made this thread because lore is my jam.

I don't mind comments at all, so that's cool, and if anyone want to ally up or cooperate on something or link up some lore, don't be a stranger. I love that stuff. Like a lot.

NOTE;

A lot of this lore does not match up to FR's lore, particularly after the map update. And whilst I take inspiration from Norse mythology a fair amount, I am not aiming for accurate translations or referencing. A lot is also just straight up taken from the stories I grew up with, which might just be local things as far as I know, and other vague concepts I recall from my childhood.

I play around with the runes I use, words may mean different things than a direct translation/most common use, and I mish-mash stuff. Don't overthink it.

The clan doesn't outright reject Sornieth ways and traditions, but they sure does live in their own bubble. Having crafted their own customs, currency, holidays- anyone coming from outside without at least knowing this will without a doubt struggle to adapt, if only due to the sheer amount of things one has to take into account. Many might even find it too tedious to try, not willing to go to such lengths merely to deal with a clan, but most will say it's worth it. Once used to their oddities, it opens the door to the clan as a whole. It allows guests and permanent members alike to understand each other on a new level, the clan always ensuring those that put in the time to know their way of life are well taken care of. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, and the logs are placed in the Bibliotheca once properly formatted so any dragons may examine them, and the Council do their best to be as transparent as possible. Some secrets are unavoidable, it's true, but few issues remain locked behind the gates to the Frozen Sanctum. The Council total a minimum of ten members at any time. ____the core of a clan

Those that intend to make the journey south should know a number of things- how to pack properly to have enough supplies for the entire trip, the basics about the flora and fauna of the Icefields, how to predict and handle the weather, and preferably the conversion rate between the standard Sornieth currency and Valhall's own Bone Crowns.

They'll be treated as a part of the large, mismatched family instead of any other traveler, and there's something special in that.
____the council of valhall

Consisting of a number of dragons chosen specifically for their individual skills, the Council are the ones in charge of ensuring Valhall functions properly and remain safe. These are the highest ranking dragons in the clan.

Important issues are handled twice a week; conflict, budgets, property, and whatever else someone may have come up with.

Each member do, to some extent, govern their own branch fairly independently, only required to sum up their recent activities at meetings. Given how much work it can be, it's not a job that would suit just anyone.

Alongside its members, the Council has its own Peacekeeper to mediate arguments and ensure meetings run smoothly, and the Logkeeper is there to note down everything said and done, so it can be cataloged.

____law, justice, order

Justice in the Icefields as a whole tend to be harsh- Valhall's own is no different. There is little room for error and it is Eir, not the Council as one may think, that make the big decisions.

Explaining this to outsiders can be hard. Why would they trust this strange dragon to crawled forth from the depths of the mountain? And without question, too? Wind-chimes cling to the wooden supports, yet the wind rarely seems to brush by them, and a number of boxes are haphazardly stacked here and there- open crates and displays show off a myriad of different blends, a few bags fastened on the back walls. Inside, Skuld will most frequently be nestled up on a couple of pillows, a steaming mug in her hands, though she'll disappear back into her little cottage, only a few paces away, without warning; did she close down for the day? Nobody quite knows. You'll be hard pressed to get in a word edge-wise when ordering, as Skuld tends to know exactly what you're looking for- sometimes, she'll even know it before you do. Carefully maintained shelves line the entire wall to the right of the entrance, overflowing with curious artifacts and glittering treasures that'd surely tempt anyone with sticky claws. A few garments are draped over a chair and the Coatl at the counter watch closely should you approach it. And in the middle of the room is a long, sparkling display case showing off the more valuable items on sale. Even if you express interest, it's doubtful the Coatl would consider opening it to allow you a closer look. Trying to purchase something here is surprisingly taxing of a task- undoubtedly odd, as the purpose of most shops tend to be selling items for profit. But in here, you'll find a dozen excuses and reasons as to why you shouldn't be buying anything that day. No, the magically preserved poster beneath the sign outside is what keeps this shop going, and it's got a smaller twin seated by the register; 'Have a cursed item? Hanging over the fireplace is a large pot full of simmering, golden brown drink smelling strongly of spices and sweetness. There's no one in there except a lilac Veilspun by the counter with a steaming cup in hand, carefully perched on a tall stool, and this is the kind of shop one only goes to when one's already in the know of what goes on inside. There is no rhyme or reason to the countless wares displayed on every available surface, but most of it seems to be pointless nonsense only there for decoration. A front for something else, perhaps? In the corner, a high pile of soft furs are stacked high, and you're more than welcome to sit for a while. Thaw out those frozen bones, have a drink, and discuss the business you came her for. What business it is? Well, that's surely between you and the Veilspun watching curiously from the corner, any emotion hidden behind intelligent eyes. • ancient treasures is the venture of kvas. she has a fair collection of items for sale, but ironically enough does her best not to sell them. her business is mostly focused on curse-breaking, especially on items, and it's what she does best. if any item you own is cursed, bring it to her- she'll most certainly figure it out for you.
 • wishful voyages is the terribly concealed cover for njord's possibly shady services. for those needing help finding, transporting, or dealing with things others won't help with, this is the place to go. it does sell wares too, and one can find all sorts of things inside. there's no logic as to what one will find, and there's nothing predictable about his selection, but it's the best place to get a hold of some hidden gems for a good price. staffed full-time by borr.

"I see you've found my shop, stranger," the Pearlcatcher offers, a vague touch of airy distraction clouding her words. One may expect her to continue, but her gaze grows distant, the tea-cup clutched in her claws going untouched as it cools in the bitter air. You've waited for a few minutes, now, and are about to ask her if she's okay- it can't be normal, can it, the hazy stare locked onto nothing?

And then her eyes snap to you, locking onto you with surprising clarity. She smiles. "I see. Not to worry, stranger, I've got just what you need..."
__

__________ Timeless Blends is tucked neatly into a rather secluded corner, hidden away from the larger, more populated paths that wind through Cinder Post. It's small, the walls made of woven branches, and the thick, enchanted fabric roof draped over the little wooden structure smells peculiarly of mint.

It's best not to worry about it, as it won't do you any good, and her selection is impressive and her prices good. Pick up a few bags; you won't regret it.

_____ "Hmm, a customer?" the Coatl in front of you drawls as you approach her. She looks mighty bored as she drums her claws over the polished counter, gemstones and gold decorating it glinting in the firelight around her. With a tilt of her head, she pins you with a near unfriendly look you can't quite decipher, torn between a frown and a proper scowl. And then, out of nowhere, she scoffs and rolls her eyes.

"Saw the gold, did you? They all see the gold," she sighs and absently waves towards the overfilled walls. "Well, get on with it, then. What's caught your fancy?"

__________ The small, wooden hut is chilly. Most tend to do their best to warm their spaces, but Ancient Treasures is barely over freezing, no matter the roaring fireplace against the back wall.

We'll remove any curse or hex for you. Ask for an appraisal.'

As you enter the little shack nestled beneath the snowy pines, you're almost knocked down entirely by a Gaoler barreling through.

"Oh- sorry, didn't see you there," he apologizes, quickly moving to help you back up. Adjusting his sash, he hoists his very stuffed satchel higher up on his burly self. "Unfortunately, I've got to go, friend. Please, go on. Warm yourself by the fire, see what I've got on display, get yourself glögg while you're there. Borr is just inside, he'll help you with anything you need!" And before you can blink, he's off towards the harbor.

__________ Only a stone's throw from the inn, the circular hut oversees the niche market on the outskirts. It's cramped in there, remarkably so, but toasty and homey. The walls are decorated with quilts and oddities from all walks of life.

When you're ready, he'll hear you out, but until then there's little to do but enjoy the peace and quiet.

Consisting of two different levels, one temporary section and a deeper sub-level for long-term holding, they can hold a total of fifty dragons in the Heart. These cells are simple before all else, carefully dug into the permafrost, and furnished sparsely. The steel doors are covered in a generous build-up of frost, sometimes making the doors terribly difficult to open at all, and the small hatch in each door definitively squeaks. Touching the doors at all is greatly discouraged-- the dark splotches is indeed blood from those foolish enough to do so. A pile of furs, an enchanted torch, and a crude bathroom makes up the essentials of a cell. Inscribed on the ceiling of the temporary cells are a plethora of runes that, when night falls, activate and allows the moonlight to shine down upon those within the cell despite them being so far underground. Accepting it for what it is, this is written off as Father's Law. ______ 66615015.png ______ "Evenin'," the Veilspun greets you, pausing to choke back a yawn. "I suppose there's some things you need clarified about our laws and the justice here? Understandable. It's a lot to take in for outsiders, I 'spose. Took a while for me to get used to it..."

He trails off, absently brushing some snow from his armour. And then he stands a little straighter.

"Sorry, been a long day. Right. Allow me to explain the basics for you, stranger..."

________ Beneath the Frozen Sanctum one can find the Gaoler's Heart. These are the holding cells of Valhall and no two dragons describe the experience of being there the same.

No stay there will be comfortable by any means, but none have died from the lingering chill so far. Food and water is supplied twice a day for permanent prisoners, thrice on Fridays and Sundays.

________ Whilst there is law, there is also the Faðirslög. Known as the Father's Law to outsiders, this seemingly strange concept applies whenever Eir acts independently and outside the regular proceedings.

Once in a while, for what might seem like no reason, Eir appears in the night and steals away a dragon from the masses. It may be a traveller, a member of the clan, or any other dragons living within their borders-- anyone can be taken.

When she does, the Valhallans do nothing.

Accepting it for what it is, this is written off as Father's Law. Considered to be Eir acting on the behalf of the Icewarden, they deem it to be that the Warden wanted this dragon for one reason or another. It may not even be a bad reason, perhaps no reason at all, but no one will search for the one she takes and no one will ever truly find out why.

Every time she steals away a dragon, she leaves behind one of her own scales in their place.

________ At the core of the Valhallan justice system there are the Peacekeepers. Along with their particular subfaction, the Watchmen, they make up the policing force in the clan and oversee any legal matters alongside the Council.

________

When a dragon is already known to be guilty, by being caught in the act or being brought in as a prisoner of war, the Council or Tyr himself make a decision. In the rare case they may be found innocent, they are let go- otherwise, Eir takes them away to who knows where.
