Notes: First Day of Brightshine Jubilee. Name: Lindi.

I've returned to ARR. It's early on the morning of the first day of Light's festival, and Joxar still has a few preparations to do before he's ready to trade his wares and creatures. Too much rain, should probably stop writing before the ink begins to drip.

Lindi reaches out a hand to touch the pelt, but jerks it back almost immediately, thinking better of it. She teleports away.

Wait a second.

Lindi can teleport? Why would she choose to fly? Maybe the rain makes her tired.

Some of my clan mentioned your booth needed help?" She takes a moment to inspect the first set of items. "Oooh, I think these will make a pretty necklace!" "Let's start with this pearl here: it can be in the centre. And with this cloth, if we cut it into strips... and then twist it a bit... and tie off the ends... there! We have a cord to attach ornaments to!" "Platinum is an expensive and nice material, and can be used to make some loops to attach our decorations with. Hmm... I'm no Fire dragon, so I'll have to make do with this lump here... good thing these claws aren't just for show, huh?" Dawnsky began shaving off thin lengths of platinum, and bent them into a vaguely ring-like shapes, before looping them through the pearl and the corals. "Done! So now we add the decorations to our cord! First, loop one piece of coral... then the pearl... then another piece of coral. It looks nicer if you can find similar pieces of coral which can form a sort of frame around your pearl. Now we tie some knots on either side of these so that they'll stay in place while we add other trinkets." Spotting another open chest on the table, she flings herself to it and begins pulling out all the items, all whilst chattering a full speed. "This stuff looks like it could be used for fishing! Black tulips are pretty tasty to fishies so if you tied some to this string on this stick you could go fishing! Oh, and this pendant can be tied to it too! Fishies will love the glow! You'll catch fish faster! And this jar! You can dump the steam out and fill it with water, or if you were an Ice dragon, just cool it into water! Then you can put your fishies in there! And this chimera statue can be used to hold your fishing pole if your claws get tired, so you can chill out and fish all day!" "Wow. That was interesting! I hope I helped! C'mon Dawn, the clan's looking for us!"

"If done correctly, the fragment may have strengthened the hide in such a way that it could be used as armor. Claws and Stones were obviously used as knives and projectiles...and that bottle. Something like modern day pepper spray?"

Kama laughed as her team tried to come up with the way these objects worked. The rain had all but completely obscured their vision, and her scales were providing the only illumination. Not the best situation in which to study artifacts.

"You guys are being too practical in the way you're thinking. The Hewn City has always been a rather odd place, so naturally the things we find here will be odd."

She picks up the pelt.

"For example, this could have been used as armor if strengthened with the fragment, but the dragons of the Hewn City had little use for armor. We know that most of them were toughened up and many were incredibly skilled fighters. We also know that they did not fight very much with each other. It wouldn't make sense for them to turn this into armor if they didn't need it."

She frowns before spreading the pelt out on the floor.

"This would, however, make an excellent rug or blanket. We've all been in the Hewn City plenty of times, and we know that the earth there is hard and it is always quite cold. Having something like this to step on or sleep in would be quite nice."

She then proceeds to pick up the bottle.

"Guys. This is glitter. We still use glitter. IT'S GLITTER. We call our deity GLITTERMOM."

She laughs and sets the bottle down before handing the items back to her team. The rain has cleared up a little, so that working is much easier.

Her team is still arguing behind her as she takes up her post as sentry.

"No, that was a nail clipper."

"What do you mean, that was a nail clipper? That was CLEARLY a necklace pendant for an Imperial."

"They'd get stabbed! By their necklace!"

"That's a lame way to die. 'Oh, how did you get here? I got stabbed by my necklace.'"

"Hey, I wouldn't mind dying like that."

"Are you kidding me? You've got to be kidding me."

"Guys, just be quiet. We have other things to work on."

"What about that rock? It could've been a table."

"Yeah, for a spider."

"Stop bickering! Please, we have work to do!"

The featherback pelt was immediately discarded. It was too big for her to carry with her and besides, it would never fit in the small nest that she shared with Xin. Speaking of her better half, he was exploring some of the other items, so Mariposa flew over to see him. "Look at the stones," Xin said, holding up one in both his front paws. "Sukh would love to practice with these. Morgana would too." "They're too big to carry," Mariposa pointed out, which only got a shrug from her companion. "So we'll go and get one of them and bring them back," Xin replied, and Mariposa really couldn't argue with that logic. The claws were examined but ultimately discarded. Neither of them ventured into the coliseum to battle other dragons, nor did they tend to explore very far from their home. This was an exception, as Mariposa had wanted to play a prank on a light dragon she'd seen and Xin had been dragged along for the ride. The dust was similarly discarded, as both knew how uncomfortable it could be when it wore off and none of their Snapper friends would want to use it. Having gone through everything in hoard, the two dried themselves off on the discarded pelt before flying back out into the rain. There was still a dragon to prank, after all.
The rain is unpleasant to say the least, but the Rogues are still enjoying their time at the marketplace so far. Quicksilver ducks out of the rain quickly, and is accosted by some dragons seeking his help. He should really start charging for these artifact appraisals.

"Lessee..." Quicksilver starts spinning the tale in his head. "These may've been decorations for a lair. Yes, this'ere's a pelt off a Featherback, the perfect material for a rug. It even still has the claws on it! The dust there could be put on shelves, of course, to draw the eye away from dusty corners. And these stones are nice and flat, obviously once some floor tiles. Yup, yeh've rooted up an old abandoned lair, looks like."

Balberith seized the first perfect skipping stone to come within his limited Nocturne reach. "I'll bet I can make it skip fifteen times." "Do you mind?" Ivaldi was too quick, though. For a philosopher, he was quick, anyway. He turned the stone over in his claws. "We're supposed to examining these artifacts, not tossing them into the nearest pond." Balberith mockingly mimicked Ivaldi's words behind his back. "Now, what do we have here...?" Ivaldi searched the contents of the artifact box. "We're here for a festival and you'd rather be here looking at dusty old... Well, I guess it is raining. It would rain during the Light festival, wouldn't it?" Ivaldi didn't find that as funny as Balberith did. "What is this?" Balberith drew a sickle claw from the box, unceremoniously poking himself in the paw. He whimpered, but bit his tongue. Ivaldi would just scold him. Ivaldi narrowed his eyes on the Shadow Nocturne. "Let me see that." Ivaldi carefully lifted the claw from Balberith's hand. "Well, I'm not sure I would want to wear this." "Wear it?" Balberith wondered, sucking on his paw. "Who would wear that?" "Well, look here." Ivaldi held up the claw for Balberith's inspection. He pointed out small holes along the claw's ridge, only just large enough for twine. The twine has obviously been lost to the ravages of time, but the claws are still in most excellent condition." "Excellent?" Balberith looked at the scuffed and dinged claw. Not exactly the word that he would use. "I have a dictionary in my quarters," he offered. Ivaldi wasn't paying attention. "Apparently this was some sort of necklace of some such. It probably went along with these." He showed Balberith the skipping stones and the same size holes in them. "I can only imagine... Ah. Here. Look." With a triumphant smile, Ivaldi held up the glossy Featherback pelt. "These served as a decorative ruff around the neck, see? Perhaps it signified some sort of status in the wearer's clan." "Decorative, my tail," Balberith pouted, picking at his paw now. "Dangerous ruff is more likely." Balberith frowned at Ivaldi's apparent pride in having figure out how the items were connected. Balberith was having none of that. "You're missing something, Iv." "Missing?" Ivaldi glanced around. "What am I missing?" Balberith picked up the bottle of unicorn dust and shook it. "This?" Ivaldi glanced between Balberith and the unicorn dust, looking a bit deflated. "Well, obviously..." he began, but his voice trailed away. "Obviously...?" Balberith helped. "Well, obviously it was to give the cloak a bit of lift." "Lift?" Balberith snorted in amusement. "You can't be serious." "It's heavy," Ivaldi said weakly. Balberith was too busy laughing to dodge Ivaldi flinging the Featherback pelt over his head. Ivaldi was right... it was a bit heavy... "I will take that bet!" Balberith seized the first perfect skipping stone to come within his limited Nocturne reach. "I'll bet I can make it skip fifteen times."

"Do you mind?" Ivaldi was too quick, though. For a philosopher, he was quick, anyway. He turned the stone over in his claws. "We're supposed to examining these artifacts, not tossing them into the nearest pond."

Balberith mockingly mimicked Ivaldi's words behind his back.

"Well, I'm not sure I would want to wear this."

"Wear it?" Balberith wondered, sucking on his paw. "Who would wear that?"

"Well, look here." Ivaldi held up the claw for Balberith's inspection. He pointed out small holes along the claw's ridge, only just large enough for twine. The twine has obviously been lost to the ravages of time, but the claws are still in most excellent condition."

"Excellent?" Balberith looked at the scuffed and dinged claw. Not exactly the word that he would use. "I have a dictionary in my quarters," he offered.
