The Skydancer had met her some time ago, in the early morning chill while flying across the nearby stream to get to his hunting grounds. And there she was. Observing her, Alaric just had one thought crossing his mind: “Oh, she is so beautiful!” When he landed next to her, the females eyes widened, and he thought he saw the shadow of a smile touch her lips. Alaric started to fell in love with the dragoness just at that moment. They introduced themselves and after a couple of meetings at the river, Alaric confessed his love. Despite knowing so little about his new partner--Myst never liked talking about her past--they started living together. Everything was going perfectly; all was harmonic between them. Well, sometimes Alaric couldn’t help but tease her. Of course, when he pushed her too far, she’d find a way to get back at him. But, well… he just had no idea what she was punishing him for this time. Alaric propped himself up, stretched his wings a few time and turned his face to the sun, its warmth like a mother’s caress. So he rolled his shoulders and stretched his neck to one side and then the other, each giving a satisfying little pop. After, he started walking. The dragon intended to have a peek inside the cave and at his mate, but then stopped. He wasn’t going to give Myst the satisfaction of tiptoeing around his own cave! Hesitating for a little moment the Skydancer then pulled itself together and walked in. When he turned for his mate and looked at her, his throat suddenly clamped down and his heart skipped a beat. There she was. This mysterious dragon, smiling at him with the mischievous little twist to her lips he fell in love with. And next to her… eggs!! Four beautiful eggs! Alaric joined Myst, gently nuzzling her and then softly stroking each of their eggs, one by one. And so, they have become parents over night. .... Four beautiful Guardian boys came into the world, being the pride and joy of their parents. But one idea was endangering their happiness. After the little ones were able to fly on their own for a certain distance, Myst told them to gather up and together they left their home behind. “Myst!” Alaric called out after noticing what had happened, while also trying to catch up with her. She stopped in mid air and looked back, waited for him, the hatchlings by her side. The parents had talked about this idea of hers, but Alaric never thought she would actually execute the plan: To have an offspring send to all the deities of Sornieth. And while Alaric still had this puzzled look on his face Myst turned toward the Southern Icefield, leaving her mate behind. Four children, four destinations. Myst had led them through massive glacial spires, rocky peaks, and stone-cold trenches cracked into the ice. As they traveled, Aspen’s heart fluttered with anticipation. He couldn’t stop scanning the cold and cloudy horizons, hoping they hadn’t missed their destination. At one point, the mother stopped the party to rest and wait for their guide Frost to arrive. None of them knew when and where Myst met Frost before, but the Ice-colored Skydancer had promised to help the Guardian-lady prepare one hatchling for battle and its way to the Icewarden.[/columns] [columns]Buz, the second son, would be prepared by the Clan of Death for his journey.--They were a powerful clan where dragons have dug out caves in the earth or created them out of bones and rotting trees to live in. The land was harsh, their territory stretching from the Wrymwound to the Driftwood Drag on the edges of Shadowbinder’s territory. Their goal was to become even more powerful and win the favor of Plaguebringer. But they were also willing to make allies in other flights. Myst had always been impressed by the Clan’s loyalty and commitment to their family and deity. After leaving the Southern Icefields behind, they traveled back to the main land to ask them for their assistance in her second child’s training so it could become a proud member of Plaguebringer’s entourage. As they approached a member of Death Clan, a member of the Death Clan referred them to Priestess, a dragon with the ability to foresee the future and speak to the deities. She’d be able to decide, if the little one was worthy of receiving the greatest honor, serving the Plaguebringer. So Myst and her children went to meet this dragon to present their request. Priestress agreed to help them and even performed a ceremony before sending the little one off to fight for their deity. While the clan was an expert in taming and training these fierce beasts, Myst and her children were quite unprepared to encounter them. Lucky for them, Lucian and other warriors of the clan were pounding the beat or the Guardian family would have been in deep trouble. [/columns] [columns]The fourth and last child of this clutch, Donar would be joining a lightning clan. It’s quite a diverse family that accepts basically anyone into it who’d be willing to contribute to its needs. The dry, rolling dunes of its territory are defense enough against any dragon or beast approaching their home. When Myst and Donar arrived, covered in dust and tired from the long flight, Amour, one of the two founders, immediately invited the travelers so they would regain their strength. Myst could see the pain in the Skydancer’s eyes. “Out of curiosity, were you ever considering coming back to me? But she couldn’t stand to look into them for long, so she lowered her eyes, still not able to offer any kind of explanation. “… I… My apologies.” Myst knew she’d done something awful to him. Something she wouldn’t be easily forgiven for. Guilt was eating and pestering her. A fire burned in her mind and throat. Remorse filled her heart. Myst had to relate about their little ones adventures during their travels and their crossings to the different deities. A festival celebrated in the wind flight and one, the family was eager to participate in. They exchaned words, telling the water-dragons about their task at hands. Trust was build over the next few days and heavy-heartedly the parents left Elfi within the care of their newly made friends. Back on the streets, and many months later, they recived a certain letter, letting them know about their young one.
I hope this letter reaches you in good faith, Myst. Our couriers have not failed us thus far, although even they must falter to the festivities of Wind at times. Hopefully your clan has been enjoying themselves, it is your home holiday after all! Cora is looking forward to seeing you, from our current correspondence. She insisted that I inform you how much she looks forward to hosting a child of yours to soon send to the Tidelord. How has your Elfi been? She seems to be growing quite quickly. I'm sure Cora would be ecstatic to welcome you all, and hopefully help Elfi 'click' with the currents of the Spiral Keep. Write back soon, Raven
Myst felt obligated to send an answer right away....
Dear Raven, It has been quite some time since we met each other during Mistral Jamboree! Hopefully, you were able to enjoy the festivities. Did your friends and family back home love the goods and presents you brought home for them? How did your alliance with that certain Wind-dwelling clan turn out? Were your ‘old-ones’ actually able to get used to all the new wonders flooding in? Your couriers are quite capable. This one actually found us as my love and I were about to get deeper in this maze like caves. It’s quite fascinating! Even after exploring for a whole week, we were still not able to fully comprehend the whole burrow system. It might be a nice idea to stay here longer and go even deeper. How knows what might be hiding down there… Thank you so much again for looking after our young Elfi! We were so glad Cora agreed to look after her during her stay at your place. Oh, and I hope you were able to get the present we send along with Elfi! Did she comport herself well or did she cause a lot of trouble for you all? By now, she must have already joined the ranks of your deity. Was little Elfi able to ‘click’ with the currents of the Spiral Keep before going off? Did every thing go well? Best wishes to you and your family Myst and Alaric
The water clan then send one last letter to Myst and her family before they lost contact with them.
I'm glad our Couriers were able to reach you so efficiently! I hope that continues to reign true as you continue to travel within such a place. Be careful, however! Those maze-like systems can weaken each other and cause cave-ins, not to mention any other secret dwellers that reside within the depths. I hope you find more positive things than any of that, of course. Elfi was a delight to have around! The Water-dragons took their time acclimating her to what her life was now leading to, and while it clearly was a new and possibly difficult transition, she eventually took to it quite well. She learned the methods of the Water-Dragons, Cora personally taught her how to gain a connection to the Tidelord and obtain revelations. Elfi was able to obtain the Intermediate Oracle level, capable of standing her own if that was her assigned role once arriving in the Tidelord's presence. Onasi and Lunira, two Skydancers gifted at using magic, helped to teach Elfi in battle. As she is not water-born, they were not capable of teaching her water-specific movesets. However, they gave the ability of restoration, so she could be a healer as well if she is on the battle-front. This seemed to suit her best, and I'm sure she will be amongst the ranks to protect the territories of the Tidelord from the BeastClans and any encroaching Flights. She is a very intelligent and strong-willed dragon, and I'm sure she embodies our element well with her level-headed tranquility, yet determined ferocity--just like the waves of the ocean. Cora is certainly proud of Elfi when she went off to join the ranks of the Tidelord, and I'm certain that you both can be as well. She was strong as she came to us, and strong as she left to follow her destiny. Wishing you well in your endeavors,
It’s been a while since either Myst or Alaric had left their new home in the caves. Those tunnels actually stretched for miles and miles and gave off a feeling as if they had been there since ancient times, a relic of the First Age. Still, they were able to find a wind clan willing to look after their daughter. [columns] [nextcol]http://flightrising.com/rendern/avatars/396383/40942789.png Little Fiona was born inside the labyrinth and had never actually seen the open sky before. So, when it was time for her to leave and join the ranks of the Windsinger—as their parents told her to—the whole idea of wideness scared the young dragon. The clan, that was supposed to prepare the young one, was called The Birdskulls, probably because of the apparel each member of it was wearing. Each colored skull was assigned a rank in the clan’s hierarchy and had the purpose of a patriotic uniform. It was a system designed by their acting leader Icy, a strict and forward leader. Young Fione struggled quite a bit as she worked hard to fit into the strict system of this wind clan which helped her prepare for her journey towards becoming part of the wind deity’s entourage. In the end, the dragon succeeded and left for the open skies in good spirits.[/columns] So they were looking for former wind clans that moved to a different location at a certain time. It was sheer luck the Researcher were actually able to locate the Birdskull Clan! They learned, that after their leader Icy disappeared, the whole family had decided to relocate to the Southern Icefields, where they gradually turned from a monarchic to a democratic clan structure. The Researcher didn’t even mind the cold climate as they were absorbing all the information given to them. Actually, the clan was able to provide them with an amazing possibility![/columns] As the where about to leave Ice, an elder dragon approached the Researchers and told them about a lone dragon that was roaming the continent. The elderly dragon was sure that a meeting with said dragon would only benefit the search and pointed the wind dragons towards the location of the lone wanderer. [columns]The Skydancer, they were able to find after many days of searching each subregion of the Southern Icefield, was covered in ice and snow. He gave off the same cold feeling as the surroundings, as if his heart had been frozen at some point. Icicle chains covered his whole body, adding to that impression. ~ Myst ~
A journey into the past

6BIYuVl.png
—Well, let’s get started!
We jump back in time, to the moment Myst had her very first clutch.—

Alaric sleepily eyed the beautiful sunrise that was climbing the horizon while feeling the morning dew slowly drying on his body. But he couldn’t bring himself to admire the view as he kept wondering, what compelled his current mate Myst in the middle of the night to kick him out of their shared cave!

The Skydancer had met her some time ago, in the early morning chill while flying across the nearby stream to get to his hunting grounds. And there she was. A beautiful Guardian lady was about to set down at the riverside.

And so, they have become parents over night.

....

Alaric and Myst are now the proud parents of 4 eggs. It’s their first clutch and they are very excited about it. They are resting safely in their own nesting ground, waiting for them to hatch!

4healthy_0dead.png

So, time went by and one day, the little one finally hatched!

39638201.png
Her first child Aspen would be joining the ranks of the Icewarden.--After a long flight over the sea, the little family finally reached some ice floes marking outer borders of their destination. The little ones were quite relieved to be able to rest on those floes before entering the harsh the harsh and icy peaks of the Fortress of Ends, to reach the clan of Northern Liights in the Cloudscrape Crages. None of them knew when and where Myst met Frost before, but the Ice-colored Skydancer had promised to help the Guardian-lady prepare one hatchling for battle and its way to the Icewarden.

Buz, the second son, would be prepared by the Clan of Death for his journey.--They were a powerful clan where dragons have dug out caves in the earth or created them out of bones and rotting trees to live in.

39638203.png
As the third son Craig loved nature so much, Myst tried to find the perfect in the Viridian Labyrinth. There, the little group reached TheTigersDen, a clan filled with dragons of all shapes and sizes, the territory shaped by their warriors to provide the best possible protection. Large trees were made into guard points and even dozens maybe even hundreds of tamed Tigerblood Foo and Mantled Foo familiars were rooming free at the borders as another line of defense. While the clan was an expert in taming and training these fierce beasts, Myst and her children were quite unprepared to encounter them. Lucky for them, Lucian and other warriors of the clan were pounding the beat or the Guardian family would have been in deep trouble. The clan leader invited them in and also promised to help train Craig so he’d be able to join their deity. During her short stay, the gentile hatchling care taker Aine was a great help to Myst better understand the Tigerblood and Mantled Foo’s so they wouldn’t get in trouble again whenever they’d encounter one of these beasts.

The fourth and last child of this clutch, Donar would be joining a lightning clan. The place didn’t have a name yet as it was more of a begrudging community, but some of its members called it Astral Clan from time to time. The sweet queen also agreed to look after Donar and prepare him so he’d be able to join Stormcatcher’s entourage as soon as possible.

6BIYuVl.png

There you are! What, by the deities, were you thinking?!!

On a sunny day--about three weeks after parting with young Donar--Myst was flying near the borders of fire, water and wind while feeling quite lonely. She just had set down near a lovely pond to drink and take a break as someone suddenly jumped her. Thank the Gods Above for paranoia. Mysts long time alone on the road had sharpened her senses—she herself classified it as a survival skill rather than a neurotic condition. So when Alaric appeared behind her, she just turned her head instead of turning into a whirlwind of claws and fangs, lashing out to protect herself. But Myst had recognized the voice of her mate instantly and kept calm on the outside. Inside, she was panicking. How was she to face Alaric after everything that happened? Myst could see the pain in the Skydancer’s eyes.

“Out of curiosity, were you ever considering coming back to me? Or was it just a one-time-think for you?”

Trees and pond, sounds and everything else faded silently away, leaving behind only those sad, questioning eyes of her mate. The longer she felt those eyes on her, the worse she knew everything must have been for him. There was nothing she could actually say to him.

Understanding began to dawn on Alaric’s face and he sighed. With a softened expression he grasped her chin in his talons. He kissed her and then pulled away with the same maddening smirk on his face, knowing the effect he had on her. “Trust in me a bit more, Myst. I’m right here. Don’t shut me out again.”

It might be that Alaric was just too forgiving; maybe he was able to sense his partner’s remorse. Even if there was still a lot they had to talk about and sort out, right now they were just glad to see each other again. Myst had to relate about their little ones adventures during their travels and their crossings to the different deities. The both of them had to reconnect again after all this time apart, but they were willing to work through it.

Myst and Alaric kept traveling, together this time. Their daughter Elfi literally hatched on the road. Being an only child, she was doted on by both her parents, trained and prepared so she would do everyone proud when she’d finally join one of the deities. But weren’t quite able to find out, which flight she would fit in the best.

Some months later, all of dragonkind came together to participate in the Mistral Jamboree. A festival celebrated in the wind flight and one, the family was eager to participate in. Maybe talking to all this gathered clans and travelers might help the parents find the right place and deity to send their daughter to…

Mistral Jamboree was busy as always, and it might have been sheer luck they encountered Loras, a Spiral originating from Wind who had moved to the terrain of Tidelord [many years ago.] They started talking, listending about how Loras had made a new alliance with a Wind-dwelling clan, creating trade routes [that existed to the day]. They exchaned words, telling the water-dragons about their task at hands.

Trust was build over the next few days and heavy-heartedly the parents left Elfi within the care of their newly made friends. Back on the streets, and many months later, they recived a certain letter, letting them know about their young one.
The letter wrote:

Write back soon,
Raven

Myst felt obligated to send an answer right away....
Quote:
Dear Raven,

It has been quite some time since we met each other during Mistral Jamboree!

How knows what might be hiding down there…

Thank you so much again for looking after our young Elfi!

Best wishes to you and your family
Myst and Alaric

The water clan then send one last letter to Myst and her family before they lost contact with them.
Last letter to Myst wrote:

Little Fiona was born inside the labyrinth and had never actually seen the open sky before. In the end, the dragon succeeded and left for the open skies in good spirits.

So they were looking for former wind clans that moved to a different location at a certain time. Actually, the clan was able to provide them with an amazing possibility![/columns]

As the where about to leave Ice, an elder dragon approached the Researchers and told them about a lone dragon that was roaming the continent. The elderly dragon was sure that a meeting with said dragon would only benefit the search and pointed the wind dragons towards the location of the lone wanderer.
The Skydancer, they were able to find after many days of searching each subregion of the Southern Icefield, was covered in ice and snow. He gave off the same cold feeling as the surroundings, as if his heart had been frozen at some point. Icicle chains covered his whole body, adding to that impression. 2ytpdmp.png

Not being able to fly, we continued on by foot; but the snow hurtled sideways across our path and at a certain point we were completely lost. If Frost wouldn’t have found us then, this letter might have never been written. During our stay with the Northern Liights, our firstborn Adena fell in love with the place and asked our hosts to be granted the honor of joining the entourage of Icewarden. We were so proud of her! She’s like me, strong minded and determined to follow her way in life. When we left the Southern Icefield, we heard rumors about some missing dragons and a search party that was sent to the Dripcave Dregs. Let’s hope they are able to find them soon… Braith wouldn’t stop talking about her fascination about science and the lightning flight. So we decided to head there next. The place Keao had exchanged letters with was called Astral Clan and it was quite a diverse family.. The dry, rolling dunes of its territory were horrible, even when one was flying over it. I think, I still found sand in my clothing weeks after we had left the place! When our little party arrived at the Astral Clan, covered in dust and tired from the long flight, Amour invited us in and helped us settle down. Little Braith couldn’t be kept still long; she was already off to get to know every single dragon of the clan, asking for something to do. She really fit in the lightning dragon’s mindset. So, when we asked if they would be willing to let her join Stormcatcher’s entourage they were quite excited about it themselves. Keao and I were relieved our little one found the place it wanted to be so soon. Our voyage then took us to the Clan of Death, a powerful clan stretching from the Wyrmwound to the Driftwood Drag on the edges of Shadowbinder’s territory. When our little group arrived, the place was in quite some uproar. The Scarred Wasteland itself had changed: There were trees and vines covering the ground one would rather expect in the Viridian Labyrinth then here in the plague flight! And there was this certain silence around the plague dragons. A silence one should not disturb with questions. A concept my daughter Calida has yet to know about… she was enthralled by the plague dragons way of live and would drill every member of the Death Clan with questions unlucky enough to meet her. When she learned about the hundreds of my warriors that had fallen, torn apart by the First Seeds outbreak, little Calida was horrified! She then approached Priestress and asked the dragon, if she might be able to join Plaguebringer. After a nicely done ceremony, Calida was sent off to the deity and we went on our way, leaving behind a flight that was preparing for war. Oh, and then we got into the Arcanist's domain, with only our little boy Devlin left. Let me tell you, it’s an amazing place. But then we were found by Flynn, our well known flying courier. He brought along some urgent letters that we couldn’t ignore. There was no way we would be able to visit the arcane flight we promised to bring Devlin to. Still, we got lucky too. At the last Crossroad station we had met Yukionna, a very sweet dragon that had traveled with us for quite some time and one we could entrust our little one to. After we explained everything to her, she agreed to take Devlin along and bring him to Morag. So, we entrusted our child to these to dragons to be guided to the realm of the Arcanist. We send along a letter and are now hoping to hear about his crossing soon. Halima, I can’t wait to tell you more about everything that has happened during our adventure. I will miss the young ones dearly! But I know, they are in good hands.
See you soon, Keahi and Keao

The Exalting of Devlin Morag was anxiously awaiting this day. It wasn't every day that she was approached to guide a hatchling to the Arcanist. Exalting was often thought of as an honor for a grown dragon, not a child's journey. But, she supposed, that's why they asked for her aid. As an experienced warrior, she has guided many, young and old, to the Arcanist's domain. She has trained, supported, and encouraged others to seek beyond that which the ordinary world could offer. Not all went, of course, but they usually walked away enlightened from their false beliefs. Seeing Devlin, however, left Morag herself enlightened. The hatchling was bouncing on his toes to make the journey, and Morag had to try and settle his excited nerves before they could even take a step outside of the lair. His caretaker who brought him there, Yukionna, was sweet and gentle, and Morag could see pride in her eyes despite him not being her hatchling. By the time Morag managed to explain to Yuki why a group of other dragons were training so hard, Devlin had already run off through the woods, prompting Morag to yelp and chase after the young one. The trip up to the Observatory was an interesting one, with Devlin riding on Morag's back for most of the trip. Occasionally, he would swoop down and grab something of interest from the ground-a piece of food, a trinket, a fancy jar-and by the time it was time for him to say goodbye, he had amassed a small treasure trove of his own. "This is for you, Miss Morag," the young one said, nudging the pile of goods towards the guardian. "For helping me get here! I also found this." He handed her one small gem, separate from the pile of treasures, hidden within his feathers. "Thank you, young one," Morag said, her eyes misty. She had grown fond of the hatchling, and his enthusiasm for what was to come touched her heart like nothing else. "Take care, and serve the Arcanist well. Make us all proud, and be the greatest warrior you can be!" "I will!" Devlin nodded fiercely right as the doors to the observatory opened up. A shining dragon, laden with scrolls and trinkets of science across their body, smiled at the young Skydancer and the old Guardian. "Ready to go?" The Exalted One said, causing a shiver to run down Morag's spine. The raw power from their time in the presence of their deity rolled off of the dragon in palatable waves, and Morag had to resist the urge to bow, as she was familiar with this One. Devlin, however, looked on in awe, nodding rapidly. "How did you know I was coming?" He exclaimed as he bounded over to them with a grin. The dragon chuckled and nudged him towards the open door affectionately with their snout, nodding their head at Morag in thanks before turning away. "We are always carefully watching the world below." @EeveeDream Thank you so so so much for being part of my little project! I hope you don't mind me posting it on my clan lore as well ^^" Yours is such an amazing story!! I very much enjoyed reading it! So, another 'Thank you' for this insight in your clan's culture. Dear friends,

You all might be curious about the lately occurring events and about the lack of correspondence from my part. Well, let me explain…

The days in Clan Àidhear turned out to be quite peaceful after we finally overcame the outbreak which had cost the life of so many beastkin and dragon companions. Today, those enjoyable days seem like the lull before the storm.

Or should I rather say ‘the storm before the lull’?

Everything started to change slowly in the beginning. The pull of the elements increased, travelers warned about riptides becoming stronger, and even our well known wind currents howled with incredible force. One wouldn’t let the hatchlings out in the evenings anymore as even the nights had become darker, while the days surprisingly became brighter. The elder dragons ushered warnings. Pointing out all the changes with stressing urgency to be addressed and spoken about.

While we did notice, it wasn’t of that much importance for me. I was actually looking after my very first clutch. A beautiful nest of four eggs. So you can imagine my thoughts have been somewhere else entirely. My mate Keao and I built our nest close to the edge of Àidhear’s territory and—as you all know—planned to leave home in secret for a while, right after the little ones had hatched. We were so excited to finally meet all of you!

Then the Windswept Plateau all of a sudden turned into a foreign place as the Twisting Crescendo—the massive cyclone that is our heartbeat and life—ceased its eternal spin and disappeared.

Windswept Plateau halted his breath when the winds died. There was not the slightest breath of wind. No draught, breeze, whiff, gust—nothing.

With the wind dying, the proud skyborn dragons of the Cloudsong just hung limply in the frozen sky. One wouldn’t want to go up there. It wasn’t natural! A place without wind just should not exist! Oh, we could fly through stagnant air, but… it is such a repulsing thing to do! We felt like being paralyzed, expelled from our beloved place, expelled and tied to the earth below.

Even the couriers waited for the winds to return before going off on their deliveries again. Flying distances through a windless sky is so risky, and walking was out of question too. The dangers such as land-faring beastclans, large predators, and even thievery were too great ones to take. So, they all waited for the winds to return.

But that didn’t happen. Days and weeks went by, without any change. Stillness was suffocating the wind-born dragons of my clan. Even the eggs were affected by it!!

They should have hatched a long time ago! We checked on our eggs every single moment of the day, even called for the hatchling caretaker to ask of assistance. As this occurrence was one of a kind, no one knew what to do. No one could help us figure out what was going on with our little ones inside those eggs. Did they also feel the change of the world outside and refused to be born into it?

Worries clouded my heart; and I couldn’t even get my letters delivered to all of you. Words from friends might have gotten my mind off all the problems that surrounded me. Keao tried his best to help me out, but he—like all of us—could not suppress this ‘emptiness’ inside our hearts.

Then, one day the stillness of the sky was destroyed by a thunderous crack. So loud, it shook every cell in our bodies. And to my utter shock, I noticed some cracks had appeared on the eggs!! First, I thought we had lost them. That they had died like the winds. But then I heard faint noises, coming from inside the eggs, and then I knew: They were alive!

I don’t know, if something similar has happened at your place, dear friends. As soon as our little ones are able to fly on their own, we’d love to come over to visit. Maybe we are able to help out with whatever is going on at your clans?

Please, let us know how you are doing and if we are welcome to come by!

Best regards. Hope to see you soon!

My dear friend Halima,

Sorry for leaving without a word. But you know me, just accepting the future someone else has in mind for me isn’t something I would accept so easily. I will be back though, I promise. So, please just let me have my way for the moment (and don’t rat me out to Fawn… okay?).

Well, as you know, I just had my first clutch… and it’s an amazing feeling!! I love being a mother. We are currently traveling all over Sornieth and the children, Keao and I wanted to let you know about our little adventures.

The Cloudscrape Crages and the clan of Northern Liights was our first stop. It took us quite some time to fly over the sea and the young ones were completely exhausted when we finally reached some ice floes at the outer borders. We got unlucky though, the harsh winds of a blizzard made it impossible to find our way. Let’s hope they are able to find them soon…

Braith wouldn’t stop talking about her fascination about science and the lightning flight.

See you soon,
Keahi and Keao

The Exalting of Devlin

10223562_350.png

Morag was anxiously awaiting this day.

Make us all proud, and be the greatest warrior you can be!"

"I will!" Devlin nodded fiercely right as the doors to the observatory opened up.

"We are always carefully watching the world below."

@EeveeDream
Thank you so so so much for being part of my little project! I hope you don't mind me posting it on my clan lore as well ^^" Yours is such an amazing story!! I very much enjoyed reading it! So, another 'Thank you' for this insight in your clan's culture.
@Juri01
I don't mind at all! I'm so, so, so glad you love it! It's rare whenever I show my clan's culture to other players, so I was nervous about how you would respond. This is definitely more love for it than I could have dreamed!

Oh my goodness. I haven't read everything yet, but I am beyond floored by the amount of work you've put into this. This is 500000% lore goals for my own clan--I'd love to talk with you more about it sometime!

The tent for Ember Toss had been restructured to accommodate the huge furnace, and there was a bigger expansion for Fuller to work the original forge with her own designs as the Festival progressed, and from the massive stack of darksteel ingots, she had plans. He still remembered the great time he had on his last visit of the Night Market and so he set off to return to his home land to enjoy another stroll through the exiting festivities. Back then, a large Snapper had operated a stall, where one could use forge billows to encourage sparks to fly from embers into the open mouths of various bottles. If successful, those embers inside the bottles would burst into various patterns of fire! The Imperial still loved observing the ones he had managed to obtain from the game back then. Looking around the Market Cinead just could not miss the massive structure that claimed a large portion of the festival grounds. Entering the place, the Imperial soon noticed a familiar face proudly operating the huge furnace. Very little remined one of the original Ember Toss tent, but seeing Fuller still in charge of the expanded place – with some additional helpers running around – was a very nice surprise. The game was still kind of the same: getting the sparks of Glowing Embers to enter some bottles. The big difference from back in the days, each bottle contained something resembling … seeds? Listening to Fuller’s and the Fae’s explanation, Cinead was eager to collect all the different seeds from this year to add to his collection back home! He joined the waiting dragons and just couldn’t wait for his turn. “Fuller, nice to meet you again! Maybe, you sill remember me from two years ago…? Well, you have upped your game I see! Amazing work! May I also try my luck, please?” --- Fuller's face lit up at the face of the old regular, and she nodded. "A' course! Th' magic here's a little different than th' island, but more stable, too. Figured plants might be easier t' handle than living fire, y'know? Ah, last year we were outta th' Festival grounds on that new island. It's where this monster of a forge came from. Has a tendency t' literally make y' forge with it have a mind of it's own. Handy, sometimes. Best weapon an' armor 've seen yet. Temperamental, though. Turned last year's bottles into living fire snakes!" She shook her head, smiling. "Step up, come on, y' know y' need th' biggest a' th' bellows." She gestured the set of massive, Imperial-sized bellows at the end of the table. "An when y' finish, stick around an' let's get y' measured from some breastplate, if'n yer interested." [/columns] Obtained bloomed bottles day 1 - x~ x7 x7 x6 Cinead maneged to assist Fuller on the first piece of her special Embear Armor set. She started with the most important piece - the breastplate. The darksteel ingots required especially high temperatures to smelt, but the metal is nearly impenetrable by Shade or dragon alike. Might want to avoid getting struck by lightning, however.
Day 2 - Collecting till one drops Date: August 26, 2019 Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall
[columns]All went well yesterday and Cinead had been able to collect all patterns for his collection. Plants might be easier to handle than living fire, but the Imperial was still amazed by the blazing look of the bottled flames. While strolling the Festival stalls during the day his mind was still analyzing the massive, Imperial-sized bellows from Fullers place. It must have taken them a ridiculous amount of time to get all of it ready and set up just for the festival week! And – as well as Cinead knew the stall owner – Fuller’s creative and inventive mind might never be satisfied with the results they achieved this year… oh, the Imperial just couldn’t wait to see, what they would come up with next time! But for now, he just wanted to keep enjoying this year’s games. The massive, customized breastplate he received yesterday was also safely tucked away in the inn Cinead was staying at. It was an amazing piece of art and he couldn’t wait to see what Fuller was working on today! He got to the stall quite early and curiously watched them prepare for opening. Three molds were brought in by the staff, set up clearly visible for all visitors to see and to attract attention. Grinning, Cinead approached the counter, some embers ready in his claws. “Good evening! As you can see, I’m back again to try my luck. I hope, last night didn’t turn out to be too frenetic and you also got to enjoy your work. Can’t wait to see, what to got for us today…” Fuller greeted the imperial with a respectful nod and her characteristic warm smile. "Good t' see y'! Spent last night finishin' th' mold for today's piece, though I'll admit ' had some help. My claws are no good when it comes t' th' tiny things, an' our forge assistant's a fae. Got it workin' great now, though. Y' should try it when yer done tossin'." - x --- This time he managed to ignite a total of 16 bottles as well as assisting Fuller on the second piece of her special Embear Armor set. It was a tasset, designed to protect portions of the lower body while maintaining manueverability, lined with fur for both protection and comfort. Wearing the tasset is almost like lying down on a bearskin rug. As the Imperial got to hislast few tries the funniest thing happened: A very enthusiastic hatchling tried to help him put those bellows in line with his embers. The little one was just too cute to shush away and so they both went ahead and did their best... well, they just were a little too strong-armed with it. A total of four bottles were topped. [/columns] They got lucky and didn't completely destroyed the place. Fuller thought Cinead's little partner in crime was too cute for its own good and wasn't too upset with the both of them, allowing them to come back tomorrow as well! Obtained bloomed bottles day 2 - ~ x7 x3 x7
Day 3 - Hatchlings and Questions Date: August 27, 2019 Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall
[columns]Just as Cinead got to his last few tries yesterday, the funniest thing happened: A very enthusiastic hatchling had patrolled the dragons playing the game for some time already and was heading to where the Imperial was handling his big bellows. As wide eyed as the little one was standing next to him it was quite obvious it’d love to get to play too. His parents where nowhere to be seen and Cinead was sure: this little one was just too clever and curious for its own good. Wherever it ditched his caretakers, they’d have a long search ahead of them. Well, one adult had to take the young one under his wings in the meantime – and it was just too cute to shush away –, so the softhearted giant invited it to have a go at the game. The Imperial sized bellows were a bit too much for it to handle all on its own though. They decided on going in together: the little one put those bigger-than-the-hatchling-itself bellows in line with the embers and ‘helped’ operating them afterwards. Well, the both of them were a little too strong-armed with it. A total of four bottles were topped and they got lucky as we didn't completely destroy the place. They were only allowed to come back today as well, because of Fuller thinking Cinead’s little partner in crime was just too cute for its own good and wasn't too upset with the both of them! A contrite Cinead showed up this evening, ready to get to play once more. He had a question to ask Fuller as he noticed that – unlike the last time he’d participated in the game – the ignited bottles didn’t change their pattern at all each day. Maybe, he had been too excited to get playing and therefore missed the detailed explanation about that matter? Only one thing to do… “Good evening! Me again – and without the little troublemaker, sadly. May I ask you a question about the changing pattern of the ignited bottles, Fuller? You see….– ”[/columns] --- Fuller did gave some answers that night, but was very mysterious while doing so. As if she really enjoyed seeing the tension rising day after day, knowing about what was awaiting them all at the climax of the event and couldn't await the moment they all would get the glimps behind the curtains. Cinead had rather good luck this time as he managed to ignite nearly all of the bottles he was trying for. Afterwards, he got some time to assist Fuller on the third piece of her special Embear Armor set. The greaves were cushioned with heavy, supple leather for comfort, and stamped similarly to the breastplate. Perhaps not as cool as racing stripes, but certainly more intimidating. Just when the Imperial had the bellows lined up perfectly for the very last try of the night a tricky Nocturne bumped into him. All that was left from the nice looking bottle were some broken fragments on the ground. Without an apology of sorts it left the games right after. Cinead just hoped he wouldn't see that one again anytime soon. Obtained bloomed bottles day 3 - ~ x8 x1 x4 x1 x4 x1
Day 4 - Matters of urgency Date: August 28, 2019 Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall
[columns]As much as Cinead wanted to enjoy another peaceful evening at the festival, a recived letter earlier in the day made him rush through his daily tosses. He even had to ask Fuller for a little favore and had to promise, he'd be back the next day to pick up all the ignited bottles he had to leave behind at the stall for save-keeping. There was just this little thing for him to go through and he'd be back to his relaxing vacation asap. [/columns] Obtained bloomed bottles day 4 - ~
Day 5 - Crises averted Date: August 29, 2019 Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall
[columns]"Good evening! Things actually worked out quite well... just an overwhelmed young Ambassador-in-training not sure how to handle a certain situation. BUT, he managed and all is good and I can alleviate all stress; and I should really stop talking now... Thank you very much for keeping my last winnings safe for me, Fuller. That was a very kind thing to do." Cinead breathed a sigh of relief and one could see the big Imperial unwinding. His younger colleague hadn't managed to smooth over differences between some dragons and harpies working at the Trading Company, which in turn resulted in an even bigger business dispute that was getting out of hand. It was impossible to miss the massive structure that had claimed a large portion of the Fire Festival Grounds. The tent for Ember Toss had been restructured to accommodate the huge furnace, and there was a bigger expansion for Fuller to work the original forge with her own designs as the Festival progressed, and from the massive stack of darksteel ingots, she had plans.

Day 1 - Return to Night Market
Date: August 25, 2019
Location: The Ashfall Waste - Festival ground x

It had been two years since Cinaed participated in the Flameforger’s Festival.

May I also try my luck, please?”
---

Fuller's face lit up at the face of the old regular, and she nodded.

"An when y' finish, stick around an' let's get y' measured from some breastplate, if'n yer interested."

Cinead maneged to assist Fuller on the first piece of her special Embear Armor set. She started with the most important piece - the breastplate. The darksteel ingots required especially high temperatures to smelt, but the metal is nearly impenetrable by Shade or dragon alike. Might want to avoid getting struck by lightning, however.

Day 2 - Collecting till one drops
Date: August 26, 2019
Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall

All went well yesterday and Cinead had been able to collect all patterns for his collection.

Can’t wait to see, what to got for us today…”

Fuller greeted the imperial with a respectful nod and her characteristic warm smile. "Good t' see y'! Spent last night finishin' th' mold for today's piece, though I'll admit ' had some help. My claws are no good when it comes t' th' tiny things, an' our forge assistant's a fae. Got it workin' great now, though. Y' should try it when yer done tossin'." - x

---

This time he managed to ignite a total of 16 bottles as well as assisting Fuller on the second piece of her special Embear Armor set.

They got lucky and didn't completely destroyed the place. Fuller thought Cinead's little partner in crime was too cute for its own good and wasn't too upset with the both of them, allowing them to come back tomorrow as well!

Day 3 - Hatchlings and Questions
Date: August 27, 2019
Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall

Just as Cinead got to his last few tries yesterday, the funniest thing happened: A very enthusiastic hatchling had patrolled the dragons playing the game for some time already and was heading to where the Imperial was handling his big bellows.

Only one thing to do…

“Good evening! Me again – and without the little troublemaker, sadly. May I ask you a question about the changing pattern of the ignited bottles, Fuller? You see….– ”
---

Fuller did gave some answers that night, but was very mysterious while doing so.

EaW3DnQ.png

Just when the Imperial had the bellows lined up perfectly for the very last try of the night a tricky Nocturne bumped into him. All that was left from the nice looking bottle were some broken fragments on the ground. Without an apology of sorts it left the games right after. Cinead just hoped he wouldn't see that one again anytime soon.

Day 4 - Matters of urgency
Date: August 28, 2019
Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall

As much as Cinead wanted to enjoy another peaceful evening at the festival, a recived letter earlier in the day made him rush through his daily tosses. He even had to ask Fuller for a little favore and had to promise, he'd be back the next day to pick up all the ignited bottles he had to leave behind at the stall for save-keeping. There was just this little thing for him to go through and he'd be back to his relaxing vacation asap.

Day 5 - Crises averted
Date: August 29, 2019
Location: Festival ground - Fuller's stall

"Good evening! That was a very kind thing to do."

Cinead breathed a sigh of relief and one could see the big Imperial unwinding. His younger colleague hadn't managed to smooth over differences between some dragons and harpies working at the Trading Company, which in turn resulted in an even bigger business dispute that was getting out of hand. The other Ambassadors were currently all out working on their own agenda, leaving Cinead as the only one on standby--also called well earned holidays.

Having said that Cinead could finally refocuse on the game in front of him and so he prepared for his first toss of the day.

"Prompt as usual" said the unassuming figure behind the desk. "Have you seen this before?" The figure pushes an advertisement torn from a news parchment. It reads, "WANTED: Interns looking for adventure and scientific achievement. No experience needed. Training will be provided. Free room and board for a 6 month apprenticeship. Job placement guaranteed!" In smaller print, is an address for a local hiring agency that represents several laboratories that operate in Lightning territory. The agent nods. The figure looks sharply at the agent, "Your mission is to discover why those who answer this ad are never heard from again. We believe this ad is part of a larger event occurring in the Shifting Expanse and we want you to find out what is actually happening out there." ~ (x)
[/columns] [columns]He wasn’t thinking about becoming an agent that night. All he ever wanted was to do a good job, take his engineering experiments to a new level and fulfill his dreams to create a robot with actual emotions. Well, it wasn’t going well. The young dragon’s heart pounded – and it wasn’t from flying too fast. Tonight was a test. And surely not the last one he’d ever have to go through. They wanted prove they hadn’t made a mistake in taking him on: The eccentrically ‘visionary’ with an acute understanding of both machinery and AI, backed up by pure compassion about his work. But he wasn’t perfect yet, there was still so much he had to learn – and sometimes one just couldn’t get it the usual way. There is only so much one could come up with by having good critical-thinking and problem-solving, as well as an advanced knowledge of scientific, analytical, and programming skills. Curiosity killed the cat – or in his case: Thirst for knowledge and arrogance let him down the path of becoming an agent. That night, the young dragon was bursting with excitement and energy. Just a few tests and he would get access to the best information gathering and storing system of Sornieth. As one of the Organizations cryptologists, he would be responsible for analyzing and interpreting information. He actually just got lucky back then: There was this one message he came across by accident. Intercepting and decoding was quite easy – and it attracted the attention of the Organization. They offered further training in both linguistics and mathematics so the young dragon could decipher coded messages, as well as create encoded messages even better. They just forgot to mention, that this new job might require travel, and time-sensitive assignments may create overtime work hours. Keeping up the usual ‘visionary’ engineer act as well as a dual life wasn’t always simple. As he could never tell anyone about this part of his life, as well as leaving the Shifting Expanse behind, he started to revel in any opportunity to talk about was his more ‘normal’ work. “Well, look who decided to show his face.” – The usual contact was sitting across the table, looking at a more matured agent. Since leaving the Shifting Expanse he had been able to maintain his cover as he would rarely leave the clan. His skills were put in action by him stay on the sideline gathering and feeding information, rather than putting him in the field. Still, the dragon had his share of field training and action. He just wasn’t too keen about it. The contact immediately noticed the poorly hidden grumpy expression when the ‘6 month apprenticeship’ came up. But the prospect of returning home, as well as the promise of adventure and scientific achievement swiftly brought a smile on the agent’s face. Back in the beginning – when Eridani first got on this job – he had soon realized the things one knows or read about agents in novels are, for the most part, not even slightly realistic. He had never killed anyone or received some gadgets – frankly though, he could just invent some himself. Nor had he been able to seduce an attractive dragoness; they most likely stayed away because of the science-robo-talk Eridani calls ‘small talk’ . This new assignment was actually right up Eri’s kind of expertise. Without having said a word, the dragon took the news parchment and left. He had some work to do.[/columns] [columns]DAY 2
~Time to head on over to the Shifting Expanse. You hear it's hot, sandy, and dusty over there so maybe some extra water and a hank to protect your face might be good. Oh yes and some prehnite as well since you know that some clans won't accept anything else as payment. You have spent a few weeks in Thunderstorm City collecting information and tracking down promising leads by listening to chatty locals, reading articles in the local news parchments, and making very discreet inquiries. You've confirmed the locations of Apprentice Magister Gertrude and the original Electrical Engineering team involved in rebuilding the Sanctorum: Flick, Chasem, and Dib. Your only decision now is who to contact first?~ x
[/columns] [columns]What is the best way to gather information discreetly? Playing dump while staying smart. Eridani had arrived in Thunderstorm City a few weeks back and the hard weather with its intense storms immediately brought back childhood memories. Before really getting started on the information gathering, Eri still had to go through a little reverse culture shock. One wouldn’t believe how real and weird that could be: Since he had been living in wind for such a long time, many things that were completely normal in the past felt weird and unfamiliar. His eyes would out him the second he entered any city, and while travelers were a common thing nowadays, any agent on this mission (and his background) would profit to simply blend in perfectly with the other dragons of the Shifting Expanse – hiding in plain sight. Although he already gathered information by reading articles of local news parchments, dragons usually started talking more freely when they thought, they were with kindred spirits or those of their own kin. Some chatty locals, articles and discreet inquiries Eridani was able to put together some ideas on what had happened here. The main key persons to get him on the right track consisted of an odd trio of engineers called Chasem, Dip and Flick at one side, as well Apprentice Magister Gertrude from Oculus of the Eleven. Rumor had it, that the trio had been reassigned because of their peculiar work ethic. The Sanctum had been an almost forgotten place, a small stone tower in the middle of nowhere singly operated by the Apprentice Magister Gertrude to watch the primary lay line of the Shifting Expanse. Being a lightning engineer himself, Eridani had read about those energy lines deep inside Sornieth quite a long time ago as he was considering their use in his experiments. Although almost forgotten by the younger generation, the elder dragons could still offer some washed out and rather unspectacular stories about this place called the Sanctum. But as all leads pointed in this direction, Eridani decided to dig a little deeper. Who would have thought, Chasem and Gertrude actually exchanged letters while working together? It had taken Eri just a day to extract some interesting data floating around unnoticed deep in network of the Shifting Expanse. Other flights usually are not aware of its existing, but it was the newest way to exchange notes although it was still start-up phase and quite irritating to work with right of now. But from the information the agent was able to gather from it he knew for sure: that the Snapper Chasem and Gertrude might had tender feelings for one another; that the trio was assigned to build a new Sanctum; and that they were about to bring it all to a conclusion when they got pulled from the project. Although they shared no blueprints, random parts of their conversation indicated them constructing a large place around the old tower – surprisingly massive compared to its importance in the past! As for now, Eridani had to contact those dragons and talk to them in person to move this case forward. While Chasem and Gertrude seemed to be the more balanced out of them all, the agent decided to try his luck with the other two dragons for now: Dip and Flick. The high pitch trilled Spiral Dip and his often gullible Ridgeback friend Flick had the habit of visiting one particular place every evening for a drink since being pulled from the assignment. As Chasem now spent a lot of his time with Gertrude, the trio was broken up and Eridani managed to join the both of them quite easily by buying some rounds. As the conversation got going, Eridani directed it towards their last job experience. “I don’t get it… why do we always have to do the hard parts and never get to do the fun ones?” Eri asked with a lower and slower tone that had served him well over the years, disarming defenses and allowing him access to information and thoughts of others. And the both of them started venting about what happened to them all soon enough, providing the agent with some quite interesting details. He would have to investigate this Chief Engineer Craklinne right away…[/columns] [columns]DAY 3
~Your interviews with Gertrude and the Electrical Engineering team have confirmed the existence of a new and improved Sanctum, but now there are many more questions to answer. It's time to infiltrate the Sanctum. How will you accomplish this task? Pose as a volunteer Intern, an electrical technician, an inspector, or perhaps some other occupation? The choice is yours.~x
[/columns] [columns]After a fun night out with Dip and Flick – who both got home with a certain swaging in their tread – the agent had gathered some more interesting information about what was currently going in the Shifting Expanse, as well as a new lead for further investigations. Eridani would have to get closer to this Chief Engineer Craklinne to get to the bottom of things. But, what kind of action should he take… there was only so much one could do behind the scenes and it seems like, Eri had reached the dead end for this case. Sighing deeply the dragon continued his stroll through the busy city, deeply lost in his thoughts. The festivities had already begun a while ago and the streets were filled with dragons from all over Sornieth and Eridani had to wave his way through them all without getting knocked down. Being a Spiral really came in handy in these situations. Curled up in his temporary location, Eridani gave the ‘infiltration’ plan another careful consideration. He still wasn’t overly thrilled by the idea of some direct field action, but this time was bound to happen. Somehow he had to contact that Chief Engineer or someone close to him to get into the facility without getting found out immediately. Getting there as some sort of inspector was out of question – that was just too obviously confrontational for Eri’s taste. Presenting himself to them as a technical or electrical technician might do the job: he would be able to operate inside his field of expertise right in the middle of the Sanctum’s epicenter and the whole action. At the other hand they would surely keep a close eye on a newcomer this late in the game. It would be troublesome to get around under prying eyes and quite easy to rise suspicion while sneaking around. Also, the agent wasn’t sure he could keep his concentrated passion about engineering in check 24/7 while working this close with other amazing minds, thereby outing himself as somewhat more than a normal technician. Thinking back to the initial advertisement from that news parchment the best course of action for Eridani might be enlisting as a simple intern with working knowledge that still needed some polish up. And so, the agent came up with a new background story for himself: A young lightning dragon with a keen interest in this kind of work field, but with limited knowledge about the trade. One eager to learn and finally leave home for some adventure! That way Eridani would be able to move around more freely and even when they catch him in the act of snooping around, his taken on ‘curious’ and ‘a bit naïve’ characteristics could mask it to some degree. As intern he would have limited access to the real interesting stuff, but again, a bit of technical ‘playing around to train oneself’ could to the trick if played right. Also, they might be more interested to hire that kind of gullible dragon easy to get rid of, over a more sophisticated one. The decision made and all the agent had to do now was presenting himself as an intern candidate to the ones responsible for recruiting. The meeting place for the interview was quite off the beaten track and the dragon sitting across Eridani didn’t seem that motivated in the conversation. Usually, an internship was supposed to be an opportunity to get to take on a career without making any serious commitments, providing one with experiences, lessons, and the tools one would need to get a full-time gig in the future. They should be a great way to enhance both the company and the intern's capability on a business perspective. In short, the company gets a pair of fresh eyes and mind to think out of the box to come with innovative solutions. But not in this case it seems: the interviewer went over just a few halfhearted questions about Eridanis family background and skills before giving him the intern spot right away. Even if the agent would not be suspicious about the New Sanctuary, that interview would have raised red flags by no later than that moment. What did they so desperately needed dragon power for that they didn’t even care about the ones hired even in the slightest?! Time to find out![/columns] [columns]DAY 4
~The security is tight but your forged identification scans authentic. They would bring him to his new workplace right away; as lodging was included in the employment agreement the rented room would no longer be required. After arriving at the New Sanctum – a large domed structure with multiple rooms and confusing corridor system for those not used to it – they equipped Eri with an Intern ID and light blue working garment. He would learn later, that each division had his own colored wear to be more easily distinguished from one another. One of the other interns than brought him over to the Doorm – a three-storied grey building with many windows and eight wings – where Eridani was assigned a bunk in the east wing to share his room with another seven (one had to honor Stormcatcher) dragons. They told him, that only the main professions were entitled to a double shared room and only the higher ups had the right to have their own room. Eridani didn’t mind, this situation was actually perfect for gathering information. The first day, Eridani was paired up with a young Nocturne named Frosting, wearing a Ridgeback paper masque over his head that matched the color of his lightning colored glimmering belly quite well. It was quite weird nonetheless: Did that young one actually wanted to turn himself into another breed and therefore applied for Internship here at the New Sanctum? Or was it just some kind of fashion Eri was not aware of? Or just one of Frosting’s quirks? – Running around all day without actually finding out – or even doing – anything useful, Frosting and Eridani sat down for an afternoon snack. It was the perfect opportunity to pump his fellow in misery for information, as they didn’t had the chance to really get to know each other yet. After a first introduction, Eri quickly came to the important questions: “I hope I don’t disoblige by asking, what do you think about the work conditions here, Frosting?” “Well, to perfectly honest – and that’s my humble opinion – of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one’s view and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one’s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say… what was the question again?” The young Nocturne wide-eyed looked at Eridani, a shy expression started spreading on its face as well. “They say I’d have to start thinking more effectively if I wanted to keep my job here. Even if, personally – and I think others might agree to this way of seeing things, although I’m not one hundred percent sure they actually do – one has no idea what the actual meaning behind the word ‘effective’ might be; effective in the meaning of ‘straight forward’ or ‘successful in producing a desired or intended result that one wants’ or ‘existing in fact, though not formally acknowledged as such’ or more as an business-adjective with the meaning of ‘having started to operate or be used’. There is also-…“ Eridani decided to go deaf. As clever as this young one appeared to be, it’s continuous blabbering wouldn’t get the agent the result he was hoping for. He decided to part with the Nocturne for now and to talk with some more of his co-workers about their recent work experiences right away. They might drop some useful information without even knowing it; for sure, it was going to be more viable than the exchange with this last intern for sure. It wouldn’t hurt to have another look around the premises to complete the blueprint he started to create the second he entered the New Sanctum. There is still time…” – Eridani eyed his new-found companion tensely. He was still unsure what to think of the other dragon employed as a technical engineer who was close situated to the inner circle of the New Sanctum. Actually, Ishkur had been the one to approach Eridani in the corridors. Who would have thought that someone would find out about the agent spying on the New Sanctum that soon?! The young lad was a bit socially awkward and tended to stay on his own, keeping his distance with the other workers. It quite surprised Eridani when he asked the Spiral to have a little chat with him. Eridani tried to give a rough assessment of his collocutor: The young dragon seemed to be fiercely independent and wary of others who approach him, thinking the only meaning behind their actions were ulterior motives. Ishkur also seemed to hate the thought of being controlled or taken advantage of. Him offering his help was exceedingly surprising! But the both had come to an agreement about working together – for now. With a wide smile on his face, as if he found himself to have been very clever, Ishkur sat down next to Eridani. “I already finished the report flawlessly, full marks without doubt. No one will be suspecting a thing.” The Spiral at the other hand wasn’t as fulsome in his praise of his newfound companion in crime. “I really don’t get you. Why are you even trying so hard to help me out? When you could just rat o—” A wink of the Skydancer’s talon interrupted Eri’s speech. “Insurance! I don’t know what’s going to happen here in the future. Some of my (few) friends have already disappeared… so, helping you out might turn out to be advantageous for me in the long run. I can always split on you to the higher ups if anything goes wrong.” Pleased with the way the other one was thinking, Eridani had one big question to ask before irrecoverable engaging this new friendship: “Just as I thought. That’s a wise way to live… You, do you see everyone else here as idiots?! Do you think, you are the smartest one going around?” “Why such an unpleasant question all of a sudden?! But, well, I don’t think one can say, ‘being good at studying or at your job equals being smart’. They just hide their own stupidity behind a nice facade. When I met you though, I got that feeling: ‘Ah, that’s a smart one. Better stay close to him’. You know? As for that ‘do you see everyone as idiot'-question… Isn’t that because you too see everyone as idiots!? You are playing nice and goofy, but without standing out in an odd way. As if you are laughing about all and everything behind that façade of yours.” Ishkur showed the first genuinely smile since the moment the got together with Eridani to get him access to the more restricted levels of the New Sanctuary to uncover its secrets. “Well, in the end it’s the stupid ones who can dream. But those who are clever enough not to get lost in their dreams are the ones who can get to the top. That’s what I believe… Anyways, from this point onwards, we’ve got to keep giving it all we’ve got. They’ll be onto us soon…” At that point Eridani decided to trust this strange dragon. As an agent he usually would never try to share his deepest secret, so he had only told Ishkur about this wish to uncover the truth about the place. Him actually being an agent still remained a secret. “You know, I think teaming up with you wasn’t that bad an idea after all. Your way of thinking is kind of similar to mine and working together might turn out to be quite interesting…“ – Excited, Ishkur laid out a blue print of the deeper levers to discuss their next steps. It was more detailed than the one Eridani was able to create during his whole stay as he never had the means to get around that level anyway. “Alright then! Let’s both do our best together and get going!” Following the corridors marked on the map with his eyes, Eridani tried to calm his companion down a bit: “I said ‘might’! We still must get to the bottom of this place first to dig up all its secrets. Then we’ll talk…”[/columns] [columns]DAY 6
~Finally. The last level of the Sanctum! You push open the door and are amazed. There is nothing there. Well nothing of any interest. Pipes and cables, crates and barrels, shelves stocked with a variety of parts and tools. It seems like this level is just a large storage area. Oh well, you decide to look around anyway. As you quietly peer into darkened aisles of supplies, you realize that there is a quiet murmur of voices. Following the sound, you discover a simple door at the end of one of the supply aisles. You can't quite make out what's being said so you decide to take a risk and carefully open the door. Wow. Now you really are amazed! What have you discovered?~ x
[/columns] [columns]Ishkur had noticed the quiet murmur of voices first and motioned Eridani to come closer to check it out. Through gestures they decided to sneak a bit closer, taking the risk of opening the door just a bit more so they could have a better look inside: A group of dragons – all dressed in the higher up and engineer uniform – were standing right in front of the door, a few steps away. But they were totally absorbed in the graphics, calculations and equations that were hang up all over this corner of the room. Eridani was also mesmerized by all the freely available information right before his eyes, trying to make sense out of it. Then Iskur jogged his elbow into Eri’s side to get his friend’s attention back to reality. The remaining part of the room was occupied by a gigantic machinery, buzzing with electricity. Neither of the dragons expected to find something this massive down here right over the primary ley line of the Shifting Expanse. They had actually found the ‘unspecified machinery’ mentioned in the blueprint notes, but they knew exactly what it was: “… it that a reactor?!” It was an electrical power grid, a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores energy through a magnetic field when an electric current was flowing through it. Typically, it consisted of an insulated wire wound into a coil around a core. Those current needed some kind of conductor to flow through to generate a magnetic field. In the New Sanctum the conductor wasn’t just any kind of object: living DRAGONS were used as the flow of charge to and from the primary ley line! Shocked glimpses where exchanged by the two hidden dragons as they started to figure out the whole gruesome truth. They were using a very specific ‘magnetic core’ made out of living, breathing dragons would increase the magnetic flux of the field around the coil and thereby increase the inductance of said coil by a factor of several thousand over what it would be without it. In other words: They were using dragonkin as living conductors to power up the magnetic field around the inductor to increase the natural energy of the primary ley line of the Shifting Expanse! “Gentledragons! This is be the most grand reactor ever constructed!”, said one of the higher ups. Ishkur noticed the blank look on Eridani’s face who tried placing the dragon and prompted a silent ‘Chief Storm Engineer Craklinne’. “Please, notice the change in the current when it’s directed through our inductor! We are powering our lightning blessing given by Stormcatcher with our very own hands! This, however, does not come without a price. If our Senior Chief Storm Engineer would like to elucidate further…” Another dragon was stepping forward, wearing a sinister expression on his face. “But sure, dear Chief Storm Engineer! You see, the magnetic field contains potential energy and increasing the field strength requires even more energy to be stored in the field. This energy comes from the electric currents that are traveling through the conductors, a.k.a. the dragons you see laying inside the field. To start the flow of the electric currents we had to bring a great sacrifice! Our brave fellow lightning brethren had to give their lives for our great cause! But fear not, we have found the perfect solution! No child blessed by Stormcatcher will have to bring the great sacrifice ever again.” The group approached the magnetic field with the restricted dragons inside who appeared to be too weak to even notice the engineers right in front their eyes. “Chief Storm Engineer Craklinne was the first to effectively use the potential energy inside dragonkin. An energy held inside us because our unique connection to our deities. But that’s not all! As we were amplifying our primal primary ley line to strengthen the lightning blessing, we noticed some incredible changes in other ley lines as well. Let me explain: All of these lines cross each other at some point and thanks to our great work here we were also able to affect the ley lines all over Sornieth. Thanks to that our lightning brethren do not have to bring the sacrifice all on their own anymore! The magnetic field now can be strengthened by dragons from other flights as well. All of Sornieth’s energy was amplified and we can use all blessed dragons to further our mission! The Lightning Clans of the Shifting Expanse will gain in strength to fulfill our deities wishes!” – With a last horrified look inside the room, Eridani and Ishkur decided to get out of there immediately. [/columns] [columns]DAY 7
~Success! Now that you've discovered what Lightning is doing, how are you going to get the information back to your flight? Try to "escape"? Send a coded message? Rely on someone else to get the word out? The decision is yours.~ x
[/columns] [columns]Though Eridani and Ishkur didn’t know for certain if they were seen while getting away from the overheard meeting, they certainly would not wait to see what was going ho happen next. One might think –them both belonging to Lightning – they could never have to meet the same tragic fate as the other dragons working in this facility destined to be used as living energy to satisfy the greed of power of some few. The friends were not in any immediate danger – for now. But, should even a single soul suspect them of knowing more than they should, their lives would turn into a nightmare pretty quickly. Their only option was to escape the influence of the Company and report back to the Organization so further steps could be initiated! While planning their escape there was still some unanswered questions to think about: like, why they decided to employ the dragons rather than simply lock them up somewhere? This one was easy to think through. Dragons who are pacing the length of their cages, waiting for the perfect moment to break free was counterproductive as they needed around the clock surveillance to prevent all escape attempts. It was a waste of dragonpower to keep them tied down in a dungeon. They must have decided at one point to let them work normally as long as possible without them noticing a single thing. When their turn was up, they were taken to the reactor and into the magnetic field where there was no chance for an escape. Another reason why Eridani and Ishkur should get out of the New Sanctum as soon as possible. Ishkur had asked to come along as soon as they got back to the Doorm and Eri’s small bunk. He just wanted to get out of there on the next possible opportunity and Eridani – who was quite found of his new friend – rejoiced over the Skydancer’s decision. They could use each other’s help. All was ready; and it was a rather simple plan they had in mind: They would use Chief Storm Engineer Craklinne’s name to feign an errand run into town. After, they would spend some time traveling all over Sornieth to gather more information about the reactor’s impact on all the flights. It was an extremely unspectacular escape, but neither of them minded that fact in the slightest. All they thought about was the vast expanse of their desert home stretching out in front of them. A single high-voltage Almonds leaf floated down and landed on Eridani’s shoulder as they hurried away and it was then the agent realized how little energy he had left. It took a massive amount of energy to just brush the leaf off and it left him feeling drained. This was the main reason he hated being out in the field – is was just a big bother. The Spiral had to pull himself together and kept on going. There was still work to do. The elemental dragonflights have long rivaled for control of their realm and a grouping in Lightning had decided to push their desire to the next level. Them messing around with the energy of the Shifting Expanse’s primary ley line might be one of the many factors why the pull of the elements had increased all over the lands, why riptides had become stronger, by the wind currents howled with incredible force in the opposite direction and the nights had become darker. Even the usual thunderstorms increased their power and wreaked havoc on its inhabitant. It had even awoken the Ancient ones from their slumber. Whatever the reasons behind the Bounty Of The Elements, the messing with the natural energies of Sornieth surely was one of it. It resulted in a new energy balance that had reach the point of no return.[/columns]

DAY 1

~ The agent enters a nondescript lair in the center of the city. "Prompt as usual" said the unassuming figure behind the desk. "Have you seen this before?"

The figure pushes an advertisement torn from a news parchment. It reads, "WANTED: Interns looking for adventure and scientific achievement. No experience needed. Training will be provided. Free room and board for a 6 month apprenticeship. Job placement guaranteed!"

In smaller print, is an address for a local hiring agency that represents several laboratories that operate in Lightning territory.

The agent nods.

The figure looks sharply at the agent, "Your mission is to discover why those who answer this ad are never heard from again. We believe this ad is part of a larger event occurring in the Shifting Expanse and we want you to find out what is actually happening out there." ~
(x)

He wasn’t thinking about becoming an agent that night.

Well, look who decided to show his face.” – The usual contact was sitting across the table, looking at a more matured agent.

He had some work to do.

DAY 2

9ce9e86410a38ad0445adb45b13751bb.png

What is the best way to gather information discreetly?

He would have to investigate this Chief Engineer Craklinne right away…

DAY 3

ab02da9c80750e2976e450ac0dfaf8e1.png
~Your interviews with Gertrude and the Electrical Engineering team have confirmed the existence of a new and improved Sanctum, but now there are many more questions to answer. It's time to infiltrate the Sanctum. How will you accomplish this task? Pose as a volunteer Intern, an electrical technician, an inspector, or perhaps some other occupation?

The choice is yours.~x

After a fun night out with Dip and Flick – who both got home with a certain swaging in their tread – the agent had gathered some more interesting information about what was currently going in the Shifting Expanse, as well as a new lead for further investigations.

Time to find out!

DAY 4

~The security is tight but your forged identification scans authentic. The security detail leads you toward the huge copper dome of the new Stormcatch Sanctum and you can't help but be impressed by the massive structure. As you pass through the entrance, you settle into your character and stay alert for information gathering opportunities.~x

As soon as the interview finished, they asked Eridani to go pack up his things and join them in about an hour at the age of the city.

After a first introduction, Eri quickly came to the important questions: “I hope I don’t disoblige by asking, what do you think about the work conditions here, Frosting?”

“Well, to perfectly honest – and that’s my humble opinion – of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one’s view and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one’s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say… what was the question again?” The young Nocturne wide-eyed looked at Eridani, a shy expression started spreading on its face as well.

An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure; and the map was going to come in handy if Eri ever had to disappear real quickly in the future.

DAY 5

~You're making progress. As far as you can tell, no one suspects that you are not what you claim to be. Now, how to gain access to the more restricted levels deeper under the Sanctum Reactor?~x

“Anyway, are you ok with not going back?

Do you think, you are the smartest one going around?”

“Why such an unpleasant question all of a sudden?! They’ll be onto us soon…”

At that point Eridani decided to trust this strange dragon. Then we’ll talk…”

DAY 6

Ishkur had noticed the quiet murmur of voices first and motioned Eridani to come closer to check it out. They had actually found the ‘unspecified machinery’ mentioned in the blueprint notes, but they knew exactly what it was: “… it that a reactor?!”

It was an electrical power grid, a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores energy through a magnetic field when an electric current was flowing through it.

No child blessed by Stormcatcher will have to bring the great sacrifice ever again.”

The group approached the magnetic field with the restricted dragons inside who appeared to be too weak to even notice the engineers right in front their eyes.

DAY 7

~Success! Now that you've discovered what Lightning is doing, how are you going to get the information back to your flight? Try to "escape"? Send a coded message? Rely on someone else to get the word out?

The decision is yours.~ x

Though Eridani and Ishkur didn’t know for certain if they were seen while getting away from the overheard meeting, they certainly would not wait to see what was going ho happen next.

It resulted in a new energy balance that had reach the point of no return.
