Hmm, sorry hun, no idea~! I've never, ever used Gimp, and I'm not going to pretend like I know what it does, but! You can always use the crystal textures I made up, for users who use paint programs without all the fancy doo dahs of photoshop. :3

This is a good point!! I use sai for everything, except for my effects!
Here though, not sure if this helps, but I just created two crystal textures that work in sai!
Just save them, and paste them over your colour layer, clip them to the layer, and either edit the opacity, or set them to overlay and fiddle with the opacity that way~!
Looks nearly exactly the same to the photoshop method! :3

Thanks so much for the thanks guys~! I'm glad I could help out. :3
Now I hope you all don't mind the ping, but I have been working on a neat little brush that compliments this method and I figured I'd share it with you, and everyone else as well!
Of course, you can use it with or without this method, but it's a neat little brush pack that creates those pretty little highlight shimmers of the Crystal/Facet gene~!
The brush pack contains 3 different bushes, a single click, Basic version, a scattering version, and a version that actually scatters multi-colour facets based on what your brush colour is!

You can download the brush pack right here!
OF COURSE this brush pack only works in photoshop, sorry friends! It should work in most versions, I'm not too sure about really old versions, but it was made with CS6.
If you aren't sure how to open or use photoshop brushes, check this tutorial out~!
I'll be updating the brush pack into the first post as well.
Hope you guys find it useful~!
