I watch as Draco and Candy walk out into the forest together again. Ever since the imperial had arrived my brother's attention has been fixated on her. Before she came I had begun to notice how truly lonely Draco was, despite myself and Lance. He wanted someone his age, someone to share memories and stories with. While I'm glad that he's met someone to fill that need, I cannot suppress my jealousy. I sigh and roll over on my back, feeling the warmth of Turtle's forehead on my shoulders.
Lance interrupts my thoughts, "Taz? Have you seen Draco? He told me he'd take me to the market again today to trade some of this [item=eternal snow]."[i] He holds out a bag filled with the strange unmelting snow.
"He's out again with Candy," I frown.
My voice must have been a bit sharp, as I see Lance flinch a little and downcast his eyes. "Can you see how happy he is now though? He smiles so much, especially when he's with her."
"He's just lovestruck. I want my brother back." I narrow my eyes at Lance, "You know he hasn't given us much attention since her arrival."
"I know, but I mean, I guess do you think they'll be in love? And have hatchlings?"
I'm a bit stunned that Lance is thinking of these things. He's usually goofy and carefree, thinking only of what fun things to do next. "I-I-I don't know...maybe, I mean, they do look happy together..."
"Ye know kids, if they's in love, I say leave 'em alone for a while," Sal commented as he sauntered into my room, leaning heavily on his walking stick. "Once their first love blindess wears off, they'll start payin' attentin to youse 'gin. And Lance, if young'ns happ'n, they'll happ'n, I wouldn't try t' ask about it, may make sometin' awkward. Now, let's not waste the day, despite Draco bein' gone. Let's go off t' the marketplace like youse was plannin'."
Lance crouched down so Sal could stand up on his back. I flew up to Lance's roundhorn and settled down in the sweeping curve. Lance hummed as he bounded out of the lair and took to the sky. His flying had become significantly better since last time we'd gone to the market. I hope he doesn't knock over any more tents this time. As we fly over the forest surrounding our lair, I see a flash of pink. Draco and Candy must be returning to the lair. Oh well, maybe Draco would remember what he had promised Lance if he doesn't find us in our rooms or nearby.

The Guardians

We've been traveling for a few days now. I know my darlings are becoming weary, but we still must find a home. I scratch my claws into the sandy dirt in front of the hollow tree I'd found. Inside my children were sleeping soundly, piled together with Theo's fur keeping them all warm from the sudden cold winter. Perhaps we should have stayed in that old tree I woke up in so many nights ago.
While we had found a few lairs, none had offered us a home. A few had been hospitable, giving us good wishes and a bite to eat. Others had not been so nice. One guard blatantly attacking me without a warning. This was harder than I had expected, although, what had I expected? When I was alone it was easy to join a clan, always room for one, but now with four of us it is significantly more difficult.
The sun began to push away the glowing darkness of night, casting brilliant hues of red and orange into the morning sky. I hear a snap of a twig off to my left. I bare my teeth and stand up, ready if the thing is hostile. Out of the trees comes a guardian. He's small for his kind, but still easily twice as large as myself.
His scales are most peculiar. His main body appears to be a tannish brown, with his paws slightly darker. On his head, back, and wings he appears to be wearing bright green armor, but it doesn't look removable, almost like it is a part of his skin. The colors and form of the armor remind me of a cat-like enemy I had once seen from afar.
I growl, "Stop right there stranger, and tell me who you are. Friend or foe?"
"I hope I am a friend," he comments with his incredibly deep voice. "My name is Ferguson, some friends call me Fergie." A small [item=cockatrice][i] struts out from behind his back leg, funnily bobbing his head. "This is Rico, perfectly harmless, besides his big ego. Poor guy thinks he's as large as myself. But I suppose you'd like to know why I'm here. I heard you talking to my old clan the other day, and suddenly felt the intense urge to seek out my charge. Something is telling me I can find my charge if I stick with you for a while, so I suppose I'm asking if I can join you for a while, or longer, so I can find my charge?"

I am silent for a minute, thinking over what the guardian was asking. I know his kind have this drive to find a "charge" to protect for the rest of their lives, and why he thinks he can find it with me is beyond my reasoning. "I..um, can you hunt?"
"I can learn. I realize I am leaving the comfort of my clan, but I knew I would have to someday anyway. It's just me, Rico, and this little fellow, who followed me from home," He nods to a bear that I hadn't noticed, sitting in a snowdrift. He looks very bored, or displeased, but his head and shoulders are held high proudly. [item=polarfreeze defender][i]
I sigh, I suppose another to guard during the nights and to help hunt wouldn't be a bad thing. I hear a light flutter of wings as Mist sleepily flies out of the tree. "Mom? Who's this?" She asks in her soft voice as she alights on my shoulder.
"This is Ferguson darling," I look directly into the guardian's light green eyes, which are so much like Mist's, "He'll be joining us for a while. He's on the search for his charge." I notice that the bear has taken interest in Mist. He approaches boldy, indifferent to my light growling. He is pointedly staring at Mist.
"I think the bear has found his charge," Fergie chuckles. "I didn't know they would do that. But I suppose in it's native land it would be guarding something all the time." I watch as the bear gently presses his broad blue nose to Myst's chest. She looks at me for a sign that it's okay, and I nod. She hugs the bear's nose, and he gently lifts her off my back, and saunters into the hollowed out tree.
"She's a sweet one," the guardian smiles. "How many children did you say you have?" He asks as he settles down beside me, tucking his massive paws under his chest.
"Three. But none are my own offspring...I've found them all as abandoned eggs. I couldn't just leave them out there on their own. But make no mistake. They are my children, and I would die for them. They've had a long night. Most likely won't be awake for another few hours. I couldn't find a suitable shelter until late in the night yesterday."
"And you? You need no sleep?"
"I do, but as I said, they must be comfortable. Their needs before mine. Often I sleep when they are hunting. They've become quite the team."
"I will not blame you if you wish to sleep now. I will watch, you can trust me."
"Mmh. I suppose," I mumble as I rest my head on my paws and close my eyes. I think I can trust Fergie, he is very sincere. I drift off to sleep soon, barely feeling as Fergie nudges me closer to him so I can stay warm in the still bitterly cold morning air.

Thank you @ZephyrWindSpirit for randomly sending me Fergie! :D He's a great addition to Kul's (not so) little clan!

"Taz? Can I talk to you?" I asked into Taz's room, hesitant to enter. I could tell by the way he avoided me and spoke shortly that he was angry with me. I had been spending all my time with Draco, we have so much in common, and he's such a gentleman.
"No. Go away. Isn't Draco missing you already?" he snapped.
"Taz, please," I say as I hesitantly poke my head into his room. The little fae was sitting on his sleeping familiar's head. The fae was only as large as my head.
"I said go away! I don't want you here! Ever since you came Draco has nearly been ignoring me!" He turned around, putting his back to me.
"I know it may be hard for you...a stranger like me suddenly taking the attention of your brother who has cared for you since you hatched. But you can't possibly miss how happy we are, can you?" I move closer to him, trying to get him to look me in the eye.
"I can see how happy he is...I just wish he would pay attention to me...and Lance...Lance especially misses him."
"Taz...I'm sure he'll start paying attention to you soon...there's just so much that he needed to talk about, especially about his old clan and his parents." Taz finally looks at me, but there is still hurt in his bright red eyes. "I, I want to show you something, please. I love Draco, and he loves me...I was going to wait a few days, but I think I should show you now. Please, Taz?" He hestiates, still judging me with his red eyes.
He flutters onto one of my antlers, and I take him to the far end of the lair, a place he'd never been to before. I quietly walk into the soft blue light illuminating the space. Nestled in a hollow tree stump lined with soft pine needles lie my three gently glowing eggs.
I heard Taz gasp quietly. "Hatchlings? You mean, you're a couple now?"
"Yes," I smile, gently turning over one of the little eggs with my nose, "We are a pair. We had hoped to keep this hidden from you two until the day they are going to hatch, so we could surprise you with their hatching. Draco went to go talk to Lance, and make up for the things he forgot that he promised him."
"Can I?" He asked, reaching out to one of the eggs.
"Sure." Taz presses his little paw onto the egg, and its gentle blue pulses become quicker. "It likes you," I smile. "Can you forgive us Taz...forgive me? I just want us to be a good family for my hatchlings."
"...yes. I can," he says, and gives me a small smile. He flutters off out of the nesting grounds. I'm glad that I could talk to him. I hope he truly can forgive me for the upset I've caused. I curl up around the tree stump, containing my three precious babies. I begin to sing them a lullaby, and their pulsing blue color begins to mimic the pattern of my voice.
