Good job with this! :) Its going quite well. The part where Theo is attempting to look intimidating is hilarious. I think maybe the skins could be like enchantments or something like that. Or maybe its a rare ability amongst dragons to be able to change the color of their scales?

I wake up early in the morning. Taz was still sound asleep with Turtle, nestled in his familiar's thick fur. I check on Lance. He's still curled around Sal, both sleeping soundly. The once small hatchling was now nearly as large as myself. He will soon outgrow me. I sigh as I pad out of the den. One day that little guardian will have to leave, and find his charge. I secretly hope his charge joins us, so he wouldn't have to leave.
After I was out of my clanmates hearing range, I leap into the air. I can feel my familiar tighten her coils around my neck. She had taken to hanging around my neck like a necklace, so that's what I had settled on naming her. She likes to accompany me on these long flights.
I fly low, just barely skimming the tops of the trees, occasionally whacking the uppermost branches aside. I never have a destination in mind. I just fly as far as I want to. For a split second I imagine flying until I drop out of the sky, and I find a new clan to join in a different Flight. Those thoughts are pushed quickly out of my mind. I cannot leave my brothers.
The sun still had not risen, and the stars shone brilliantly against the midnight sky. I fly higher, imagining myself reaching out and holding the stars in my paws. I watch the sun rise, and look down and see a deep sea. This must be the Sea of a Thousand Currents, the home of the Tidelord. I caught brief glimpses of things swimming in the water. I turn back around toward the Shadow lands. I don't know if I can swim, and I'd rather not find out right now.
I land on a small island, covered in dark grass and blue mushrooms. I can see the mainland, populated with the dense, dark evergreens I call home. I sigh, basking in the warm heat of the morning sun. It had been so long since my family had taken me out to the coastline. Perhaps I should fly to my parents to visit them. They had left my flight to re-join their old Lightning clan shortly after I became an adult. I'm glad they moved though, otherwise...otherwise they might not have survived the plague. I wonder if they even know what happened...
I stare at the sea for most of the morning, finally feeling peaceful. I collect Necklace who had slithered onto some rocks to absorb the sunlight, and take off to head home. The sunlight was beginning to fade as I flew into the clearing by my lair. I walk around the clearing, laying a glowing mushroom on each spot where I had buried my clanmates so many days ago. I pause at Shadow's grave and lie down. Necklace slithers off to the lair.
I hear Lance approach. He makes a small squeaking noise, and nuzzles his large head under my neck. He can sense that I am sad. "Ey there boy-o. Ye alright?" Sal asks from behind me.
"Fine," I reply, when in fact, I am not fine. "Just, leave me alone for a bit. I need some wisdom from my old clan leader." The old longneck convinces Lance to join him, and they leave the clearing. "Shadow," I finally say, "I miss you...and our old clan. I feel so alone, despite Taz and Lance. I just don't know what to do...life is so difficult now...I need help." I yawn as I drift off to sleep.

Lance has grown quite large since his awkard arrival into the clan. He now towers above my head, matching Taz's Mistwatch Shellion in height. He's a quick learner, but still a bit clumsy on his feet. He often accidentally tears holes in the thorn walls with his horns and knocks over things with his large appendages. As I think about him the blue dragon sticks his head into my room.
"Boo!" He booms. I leap up with my feathers bristling, surprised as ever. He likes to prank us often, the trait of those purple eyes of ours. "Look what I've found! This stuff was just sitting around in the hoard and I decided to try it on!"

"Lancelot! Don't do that!" I scold, "It's not nice!"
He sticks out his tounge at me, then asks, "Well, what do you think? Am I not the most handsome guardian this lair has ever seen?" He tilts his head in all sorts of directions to show off the enormous bird skull with brown feathers, the beads making little clicking noises as they swing together. Ram horns curl around his jawline. The blue armor around his chest gives his already intimidating size a bit more...danger?
"You look great. That stuff fits you well, and you have good color tastes. The blues and browns work well together, like your own colors," I smile. "Where's Sal at?"
"He went off outside. Told me he was gonna scout around. He didn't want me to follow him," the guardian looked down at the floor, disappointed. Usually Sal let him accompany him. I wonder what the old beast was up to?
"Oh don't worry about it. He's probably checking out a new area for the two of you to explore. You're still rather young."
"So? I'm bigger than you. I'm grown up," he pouted.
"Hey, Lance, look at me," I say. He turns his head a bit more from me. "Lance, what do I see there? Under your chin?" I reach up and gently curl my fingers into his short beard. "Is this a beard I see? Oh my! How grown up you are!"
"Aw, shuddup," he growls, playfully bumping me backward with his head. "You don't mean that."
"No seriously!" I smile, "I think it's time Taz and I took you out hunting with us."
"Really? You mean it?" The young guardian's eyes shone in delight.
"Yeah, go get Taz, we'll leave soon," I smile as the guardian quickly runs off to find Taz, nearly bouncing with excitement. This will be a good experience for him.

"Mommy! Mom! Mom! Mom mom mom momomomom!!!" Chirped Pandora in my ear.
"Nnggggh...what darling?" I yawn sleepily.
"Theo's gone outside! You said we shouldn't go outside unless you are with us!" She nervously flapped her little wings.
I look toward the entrance, and see Theo sitting underneath another tree, looking out into the forest. His Storm Seeker was perched on his shoulder scanning the area with its piercing blue eyes.
"He's right there Pandora, no need to be a tattle-tale," I shake my head, trying to become more alert, and the little nocturne shakes her head as well. "Did he say anything to you before he went out?"
"No. He's still silent as always. I wonder why he won't talk," she replied, hopping toward the entrance. I had hoped Theo at least talked to Pandora, but it seemed now that he would always be quiet. He had not made any vocalizations since finding me. I look at my little daughter, now as large as my head. I think this is a big as she's going to get, as her young hatchling features have given way to her elegant adult form.
"Go get him then, I need to talk to the both of you." Pandora leaps into the air excitedly and flies to Theo. I sigh, they've both gotten so big. Pandora flits back into the hollow and lands on a low hanging branch. Theo soon enters the lair, his fur snagging on some of the branches. He blinks at me, then lies down, taking up the rest of the limited ground space under the tree.
"Well mom, what is it?" my daughter asks.
"I've been thinking for a while now...both of you are grown up now, and this space won't be big enough for us three for much longer...I think we need to find a true lair...or join another clan." Theo's head jerks up, a surprised look in his eyes.
"But why mom? I like it here! It's cozy for us!" my little nocturne protests.
"Because Theo may get bigger yet, and I think it would be good for you two to meet other dragons and have a decent roof over our heads rather than just a tree," I sigh. As much as I had also grown attached to this space, it would be in my children's better interests to move elsewhere, where they can meet new dragons. "I will teach you how to find treasures in the dense forest, how to survive without a home base, and, most importantly, how to fight. We will find a new home or a new lair. Whichever we find first."
Pandora is silent. Theo's storm seeker ruffles his feathers. "We will leave shortly. Come outside when you're ready," I say. I throw my bag over my shoulder and walk outside to wait for them.
