TOPIC | Criculaworm & Silkspot Error Thread
Please check the known issues and working-as-intended sections before making a report!

This thread is to track any gene errors that occur with the Criculaworm and Silkspot expansion. This thread is for the newly modern and Ancient versions of these genes only, and does not encompass previously released genes.

In this thread, players may report any errors they encounter with the new genes. These can be technical errors, or consistency issues. This thread is intended to focus on these potential errors so that they can be addressed swiftly

We define technical errors as things such as: pattern bleed, pixellation, halo effects, inconsistencies within the same breed, color swatch errors, genes being uploaded in place of other genes, misaligned templates, missing artwork, gaps, missing pixels along a seam, missing line art, stray pixels, patterns that bleed outside the silouette, etc.

We define consistency/style differences as differences between an existing gene and its counterparts on other breeds that may differ. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes it's an oversight. If a style difference is brought up, we will confirm it as working as intended, or report it as an error and complete the change within a 45-day time limit.

Please report any errors you encounter and we will do our best to correct them in a timely manner. This thread will close out in 47 days (due to needing to close on a workday), on November 16, 2026.After this time, players may report technical issues with these and other gene errors in the Modern Gene Error Backlog Thread, but further consistency issues will not be accepted for review and will be considered working as intended.

Note that it may take a short while for the site's internal image cache to reflect the corrected image assets.

Corrected Issues
 • Criculaworm (Guardian F) - One of the back feet is missing its fade. Fixed.

Known Issues
 • Criculaworm - The horn/claw color is is incorrect and defaulting to the basic gene horns/claws.
 • Criculaworm - The gradient inside of some of the belly spots could be made stronger.
 • Criculaworm (Obelisk M) - The feet and tail are missing their fades.
 • Silkspot (Skydancer F) - The inner wing membrane is not the accent color.

Investigating (Not sure if issue or not)

Working as intended
 • Silkspot (Tundra) - The spot pattern going "underneath" the fur is considered working-as-intended. Tundras get a little bit of a fancy Criculaworm as a result, as they have some fun fur on their wings that gets additional spots. This is considered correct for this breed.

I will be deleting reports that are not relevant to the Criculaworm/Silkspotgene expansion, reports that have been corrected, reports are not considered an issue, duplicate reports, and discussion or chatter as I encounter/investigate them to keep the thread current with gene reports only.

Adding to the end point of Ezofuji's post, it seems like the Criculaworm belly spots right along the edge have the wrong color (or perhaps a gradient issue?). They look much darker on Ice, for example. It appears to affect all the new instances of the gene.

(I'd also like to second the potential coverage issue of Modern Silkspot. It immediately struck me how empty it looks compared to the Everlux version.)

Are mirrors supposed to have this little spot coverage with Silkspot?

Over half the wing is just the gradient.

Obelisk Male Criculaworm is missing darkfade gradient on his four feet and the tip of his tail.

Aether Male (and Female) could have a longer and stronger gradient fade within their back and flank blotches so more of the underbelly-tail color shows through.

Auraboa (Male especially) Criculaworm... I don't like how uniform, square, and grid-like the blotches along the back and tail are. It doesn't quite match the impression the gene originally gives of natural, almost water caustics patterning.

And this is in contrast to the new Undertide variant, which has better shape and size variation in its blotches.

This one could be contentious, and is also work-intensive...

I really don't like how on these expansion breeds the darkfade on Silkspot so tightly constrains the color blotches and main secondary color. On Everluxes the secondary's darkfade used to just be a kiss, but on most other breeds it seems to overwhelm the patterning and main colors.

I think Silkspot was intended to have two portions of darkfade, and the one on the wrist/palm went missing, which caused the wing edge fade to expand to compensate, and now the gene doesn't look as good on most breeds.

Here's the Everluxes, where the wing edge darkfade is fainter and covers much less of the wing to where there's an obvious gap of main color between the fade and the blotches (red) but also contains a secondary darkfade near the wrist/palm (yellow) that weaves in between the first row of blotches before stopping just before the line of clustered speckles.

Breeds That Have (IMHO) Silkspot Darkfade Issues:
(presume all listed have all poses missing wrist/palm fades so I don't have to write it out for all of them):
Bogsneak - Edge fade too big and touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Coatl - Edge fade's too big on all; Female's touches blotches when it shouldn't
Fae - Edge fade's too big on all; Male's touches blotches when it shouldn't
Fathom - Edge fade's too big on Male/Female
Guardian - Edge fade's too big and touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Imperial - Edge fade's too big and touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Mirror - This one is extremely bad; the wing edge darkfade has taken over the entire wing.
Nocturne - Edge's fade too big on Hatchling
Obelisk - Edge's fade touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Pearlcatcher - Edge's fade touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Ridgeback - Edge's fade touches blotches when it shouldn't Male/Hatchling
Skydancer
Snapper
Spiral
Tundra - Exception, this one does not have wrist fade missing because wrist is obscured by the primary. However, edge's fade too big on all
Wildclaw
Aether - Edge's fade touches blotches when it shouldn't on Female, edge's fade too big on Male
Dusthide - Edge fade's too big and touches blotches when it shouldn't on all
Sandsurge - Exception, on account of having no wrists to speak of. However, edge's fade too big on all
Thorntail - Technically, but wrist fade would be tiny on this breed
Undertide - Edge's fade touches blotches when it shouldn't on Female

Inconsistency on Silkspot - Skydancer F is missing the accent gradient on the wing elbow membrane that is present on the M and H poses, as well as on other breeds. Affects all colors, but is shown here with Copper. I think the issue with the elbow membranes on moderns is that they're using the accent color from the spots rather than the slightly darker fades underneath. Here's Silkspot on a modern: Here's the Undertide version for comparison: Actually, looking closer at previous releases, there seems to be a nice gradient going from the lighter spot accent to the fade color along the membrane in Everlux, while the Thorntail version seems to behave much like moderns', only that the area is much smaller than on, say, Skydancers, and it's mostly in shadow.
