TOPIC | Magpie Gene Error Thread
Please check the known issues and working-as-intended sections before making a report!

This thread is to track any gene errors that occur with the Magpie gene release.

In this thread, players may report any errors they encounter with the new genes. These can be technical errors, or consistency issues. This thread is intended to focus on these potential errors so that they can be addressed swiftly

We define technical errors as things such as: pattern bleed, pixellation, halo effects, inconsistencies within the same breed, color swatch errors, genes being uploaded in place of other genes, misaligned templates, missing artwork, gaps, missing pixels along a seam, missing line art, stray pixels, patterns that bleed outside the silouette, etc.

We define consistency/style differences as differences between an existing gene and its counterparts on other breeds that may differ. Sometimes this is intentional, sometimes it's an oversight. If a style difference is brought up, we will confirm it as working as intended, or report it as an error and complete the change within a 45-day time limit.

Please report any errors you encounter and we will do our best to correct them in a timely manner. This thread will close out in 47 days, on June 29, 2026.After this time, players may report technical issues with these and other gene errors in the Modern Gene Error Backlog Thread and Ancient Gene Error Thread respectively, but further consistency issues will not be accepted for review and will be considered working as intended.

Note that it may take a short while for the site's internal image cache to reflect the corrected image assets.

Corrected Issues
  • Spiral, Tundra, Wildclaw - These items were briefly unavailable, but have been restored!
  • Coatl M - The second set of wings had an extra color fade removed where it crossed over the Magpie gene. Fixed
  • Auraboa H - The second set of wings needs an additional spot of color to match the adult poses. Fixed.

Known Issues
  • Pearlcatcher M - Needs extra spot of color at the base of wing to match H and F poses.
  • Thorntail M - Could benefit from having some of the accent color on the right wing be present. Needs extra spot of color at the base of left wing to match H and F poses.

Investigating (Not sure if issue or not)

Working as intended
  • Browns - Some of the accent colors for brown are different shades of brown. This is considered working-as-intended and shoudl be consistent across the gene.
  • Cirrus Mist - The gene is intended to curve around the flow of the mist.
  • Fathom F Wing - The wing has 5 spots, but the first fin spine of the wing is curled around behind where we cannot see. The markings as displayed are working-as-intended.
  • Gaoler Tail - The path of the gene is considered working-as-intended.
  • Hunter - The color selection is considered working-as-intended and shoudl be consistent across the gene.
  • Maize- The color selection is considered working-as-intended and shoudl be consistent across the gene.
  • Mirror M Wing - The shape of the wing markings are considered working-as-intended.
  • Snapper Wings - The wings of the snapper are torn. The markings are considered working-as-intended.

I will be deleting reports that are not relevant to the Magpie gene release, reports that have been corrected, reports are not considered an issue, duplicate reports, and discussion or chatter as I encounter/investigate them to keep the thread current with gene reports only.

Thorntail M has two potential bugs with Magpie:

1. The right wing's (our perspective) one visible marking would benefit from having its gradient strengthened - it's too subtle as we seemingly see more than half of the marking - thus it may be inconsistent. Though important to note that it may only seem too subtle because of the shadow of the wing itself

2. Thorntail M is lacking one wing marking on the left wing membrane (our perspective) VS the F and H poses - it has three gradient spots instead of four - inconsistent within breed (not talking about the thumb spot, it would be invisible on Thorntail M anyway)

Checked other breeds/poses too and all of them seem to have four or more gradient spots on the wings where possible to see - I guess what I'm trying to ask is if the amount of gradient spots is different on purpose per pose/breed or an error.

Putting this here, as I believe this fits the 'inconsistencies between the same breed' category. Male Pearlcatcher has 5 markings on the front wing. Females (and seemingly like most other dragons with this gene), only have 4. I believe the male pattern to be a mistake. (This needs to be updated but I am lazy)
3 possible small errors with auraboa: 1. Hatchlings seem to be missing a marking on their lower wing, the top wings have 5 and both sets of wings on the females have 5, while the hatchlings only have 4 on the lower wing. Only 4 are visible on the males too but that's because of their tail covering where the 5th marking would be, while the spot for the 5th marking is not covered on hatchlings. 2. This could just be because of how they're bunched up, but females seem to have less pattern on the belly than males. The pattern seems to start lower down (more distance between the head and pattern start) and end sooner than on the males. It also seems a bit more saturated, though that could just be due to how the male's arm covers his torso. 3. The nose pattern on females seems to go a bit higher and be a bit darker/more saturated than on the other poses. Edit: Rough mockups to show what I'm looking at: Nose close-ups:

Soaring Snakes - A snake themed hatchery
How come tundras dont get an "inside wing" pattern?
Compare: mirror male with a pattern on the inside and top of the wing

to tundra male, with only a pattern showing on the outside:

this is consistent within the breed, but seems odd to do as it is inconsistent across other breeds, like you can see on coatl f above as well where the pattern shows on the viewer facing wing (inside) as well as the back wing (on the outside)

@Gene Error Updates

The following fixes went in tonight:
  • Coatl M - The second set of wings had an extra color fade removed where it crossed over the Magpie gene. Fixed
  • Auraboa H - The second set of wings needs an additional spot of color to match the adult poses. Fixed.
