One was the Night Court, and the other was the Day Court. The queens of each were twin sisters, and two of the four seasons of the year were given to each sister to rule. The Night Queen, Cantora, ruled autumn and winter, while the Day Queen, Zara, ruled spring and summer. The siblings were rivals since they were young, always competing, attempting to prove that they should be the sole ruler of Courtelia. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The Masquerade The ballroom sparkled, every inch of it resembling the night sky. Small lights dangled from the ceiling, giving the area an otherworldly feeling. The marble floors and midnight blue walls honored the dragons that threw the masquerade, the Night Court. In the center of the festivities, accepting thanks for extending invitations to even the peasants of the land, was the Night Queen. She sat in her throne regally, with knights in diamond armor on either side of her. Throwing the masquerade was a pain. Queen Cantora, though several decades had passed since the kingdom was divided between her and Zara, she was still trying to show that she was better than her wannabe queen sister ruling the Days of the year. Therefore, Cantora extended an invitation to every single dragon in the land. And yes, that did include the peasants and the Day Court. Still, this was the last day of winter. Cantora deserved a break, so she went onto the ballroom floor and danced her heart away. Several hours later, Cantora decided to retire for the night. As she started to prepare the ending speech, she reached up to adjust her crown. Except… the crown wasn’t there. Running back to the ballroom in a frenzy, she demanded attention of all the people in the room. “Citizens of the beautiful land of Courtelia! I have an announcement. Sometime in these last few hours, my crown was lost. If you could stop the festivities for a while in order to help me find my crown, I would be eternally grateful. The dragon who finds my crown will receive a generous reward.” However, a fair amount of time passed, and the crown was never found. The queen called upon the detectives attending the masquerade, and she decided that everyone attending had to be interrogated. Nobody was allowed to leave, not even allowed to move a muscle, for this was surely planned. There’s no better time to strike against royalty than a night where nobody’s face is seen. There’s also no better time to steal a crown than a time where you can easily slip into the shadows of night, for that is surely what the thief was told to do. In the stress of interrogation and having lost such a huge sign of power, there was only one question swirling through the citizen’s heads. Who in Courtelia would dare to steal the Queen’s crown?

The Masquerade
The ballroom sparkled, every inch of it resembling the night sky. Small lights dangled from the ceiling, giving the area an otherworldly feeling. The marble floors and midnight blue walls honored the dragons that threw the masquerade, the Night Court. Who in Courtelia would dare to steal the Queen’s crown?
