Ahhhsks Tada! I didn't see your Canon lore request until now, but I hope this is still ok!
The fire blazed in front of me, warm, mysterious, just right. I threw another stick in before I looked up at him. Faust, my mate, sat across from me, patiently waiting for the story to be told. A story about his past life, a story that was only told when the flame and the moon united and became one. I glanced up to see the moon center in the sky, and give a nod at Faust.
“Are you ready?”
He nods, he knows the story that I tell him, yet he listens intensely every time.
I give a small smile and begin my tale…
“You were once a man. A man who believed the impossible was possible. Yet you craved more than your beliefs, you craved truth. So you found me, a mythical being who could make your wish come true. But like every story, you had to pay a price. The price was that you would lose your memory of your past life, you would forget everything. And you would have to pledge yourself to me…. Forever.” I let out a small chuckle, remembering his face when he had first heard those words, shocked yet accepting. “You agreed. In return I gave you what you wanted. The knowledge of everything. The knowledge of the world!”
The story was a short one, but it always seemed filled Faust's hunger to know about his past life.
“Thank you, dear,” Faust stands up to nuzzle me, “That story is always your best.”
With a sweep of his wings, he turns to head back to our cave. “Don’t stay up to long! I don’t want you to be grumpy tomorrow!”
I nod in his direction, a promise to be next to him within the next hour. As I watch his shadow disappear into our cave, I let out a small sigh. If only he knew the real reason why I granted his wish.
The first time I had told him the story, he asked if I was telling the truth. I said yes. And to all the times he asked after that, I continued to say yes. But the truth was, I lied. The story I told was only a snip of what really happened that night. He didn’t know what had really gone through my head. I whip my head up to the moon and close my eyes. Remembering.
Back then, I had always taken a strange liking in Faust. I watched him through the shadows, watched his dreams, studied him. For some reason, I always felt a strong pulling of his soul to mine. And finally, when he had come to see me for his wish, I knew it was only a chance for me. I had only granted it since I knew I could have him. The knowledge I gave him wouldn’t matter. Only I would matter. He would be mine forever.
I let out a small sigh and open my eyes to a full shining moon. I regretted my decision everyday, but every moment I spent with Faust made up for it. After all, I was the moon and he was my fire. Only together are we truly one.
