(I submitted a support ticket about this as well, but this feels like a glaring issue)
The important notification icons, the things meant to grab your attention literally fail basic color contrast accessibility tests. A passing WebAIM color contrast ratio is 4:1. The notification icons without any active message have a ratio of 2.16:1, and the notifications with an active message have a ratio of 1.7:1. An icon that is nearly 1:1 with the color it sits on is not going to grab anyone's attention, and is incredibly hard to see too (and I don't even have any conditions that affect my color vision). I imagine this is really rough on people with low vision or any sort of color blindness.

Device Compatibility
The responsive layout update has been created with modern accessibility and coding standards in mind. This uses established web technologies that have been around for some time and are broadly supported by major browsers and devices. However, it is very possible that older devices, or browsers that have not been updated, will not display the updated site correctly.

@/Oliss, thank you. I want to respond to you here because of the conflict in what we shared in the announcement post, what you've pointed out, and the changes that were made in the default UI.
What we (@/Kaepora and I) included in the announcement post and what I initially shared in the forums regarding the UI (all) was communicated to the best of our knowledge.
We have since learned that this is untrue and we are very sorry that this has created a perception that we would intentionally mislead the community. That's not at all what we want or even think is okay to do.
What I can share with you right now is that we are working over the weekend to fix these contrast issues, both with the icons and buttons reported to us and to address the overall added white in the default UI. I can't promise an ETA but I can tell you that this is top priority and being worked on right now.
I'm glad to hear it! And sorry for the harsh tone of the original message, I know you guys are getting flooded with feedback right now. I am genuinely glad it got seen, and I know you guys are all working hard to make something that aligns with your desires for the game's future while matching public needs as well.
No harsh tones detected! You were direct, specific, and called out where what we said didn't line up with the facts. I bookmarked your reply on launch day and was holding on any replies until I had more information, which I received today. All good, and thank you again — your feedback was very helpful!
And on a moderation note, the announcement thread is now locked. Replies are targeting other players, speculating about intent, and telling players to leave if they don't like it. None of that is constructive, especially the last one. The default UI is missing contrast in several areas that make the site appear whiter and unfriendly to the eye. We are working over the weekend to address that and you can see my reply about this here.
In order for us to continue work on corrections and fixes, we are seeking specific (ie, more information than "I don't like it") and actionable feedback. There are three designated ways for players to submit their feedback:
- The [UI] General UI Feedback thread.
- The Suggestions Forum
- Contact Us
Even if you don't receive a personalized reply to your post, thread, or ticket, we are reviewing and discussing player feedback to identify where we can improve the themes/UI/performance.
Finally, bugs should be posted to the tracking thread found here in the Bug Reports forum. Kaepora is working his way through your reports page by page and we ask everyone take a moment to read the instructions, check if your issue has been reported, and follow the instructions. This will reduce thread bloat and ensure engineer time isn't sidetracked away from bug fixes.
