Thank you all for the accessibility updates! As a screen reader user, I really appreciate all the changes. If there’s ever any way I can help out, like by testing features, I’d be more than happy to. I was also wondering if there’s a way to report accessibility issues I run across? For example, I tried to send an item to a friend the other day but couldn’t find the slots to add items in either messages or crossroads.
I really appreciate the super detailed image descriptions y’all do. They are exquisite and I just wanted to thank all the engineering team so so much.

Thank you for updating your staff post font color to meet those contrast needs! Still distinctive, but more accessible. Very cool also that it was automatic and retroactive (or that someone just did a lot of work updating all the past posts) :3

@
Aviary, thank you for your feedback on the default font color setting for staff accounts.
We ran our forum post backgrounds and previous default font color for staff accounts through a WCAG compliant contrast checker and the contrast was not as accessible as we wanted it to be. The new default color for staff forum posts meets both WCAG contrast guidelines on the white and beige backgrounds, as well as meeting our branding and staff post differentiation needs. We're still working on finding a sweet spot for the hyperlink color in the forums, but we hope today's update helps.

thank you so much for the color change on staff posts! i don't use a screen reader but i do have some level of visual impairment as well as sensory issues, and the brighter red was a little harsh on the eyes at times. it never crossed my mind to report it, though, since i was so used to the color that i never even thought it could be changed.
i will say, while i'm thinking about it, that i sometimes wish there was a way to change the forum text size within the website itself, if that makes sense. when people make the text on their posts, profiles, or bios super duper small, it makes it so hard to read. :( they're going for an aesthetic but it makes it super inaccessible. it's also very annoying when people change the text in their posts to a super light bright color because then i can't read it at all. if there was a way to turn on bigger text and limit text color range, that would be awesome. but as a web developer myself, i totally understand that accessibility can unfortunately be seen as a lesser priority than, say, security.
i hope none of this seems rude! it's just a suggestion for a future update, i suppose.
thank you, all of you, for all of your hard work!!

also, seconding StealthDragons on this. i noticed the reliability engineer post, though i don't quite meet the requirements for it. but i'd be interested to volunteer if there was ever a need to get input on accessibility features.

@eyayah, for forum posts, you can turn off all font formatting, including on staff posts, by clicking on the paintbrush icon at the top of the post itself. I realize this doesn't address every area of the site, but it should make forum browsing easier!
A general note, overly light, bright, small, or otherwise unreadable fonts are in violation of our Forum Etiquette policy. These are reportable to Support through Contact Us.

Threads and posts should not use font formatting that may make the text difficult for others to read, such as using fonts that are excessively small, large, or light in color.
Gifs should not have bright flashing colors or lights, nor should they involve the kind of bouncing or movement that could cause dizziness, nausea, seizures, etc.

@Aequorin
thank you so much for your quick response! i knew there was something that i was forgetting, but i couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. thank you! i did notice just now, though, that when i tried to click on the paintbrush icon (on multiple different posts), my mouse does not seem to register it as clickable / a link. the button doesn't seem to be doing anything for me at the moment, though maybe it's something to do with my browser...? it could very well be. if it helps, i'm currently on Google Chrome (that is what I always use to browse FR) and utilize my university's wi-fi network. i could also just be missing something! I'll definitely keep in mind that it's possible to report tiny text and inaccessible colors. Thank you for the information!
i would also like to mention while i'm here that i share the same concerns that others have mentioned with the coliseum captchas. i completely understand why the captchas are there... i'm going to take a wild guess and assume it's to prevent people from using a bot to automate their coliseum battles. however, with the way that AI technology is (unfortunately) rapidly developing nowadays, i fear that bots may be able to surpass this before too long. even for someone such as me with a relatively mild visual impairment (astigmatism and sensory processing issues), it can be very difficult for me to pick out the dragon from the image. oftentimes, the randomly-generated nature of the dragon image means that it blends in so much with the background that it's nigh-impossible to see. sometimes i even have to zoom in to find it and squint. do you think there is any chance that the captcha system will be changed in the future to be more accessible? perhaps you could offer a different option for players with visual and sensory impairments that they can toggle from their account settings?
i'm really just "spitballing" here, and rambling with the ideas that i'm coming up with on the spot. so, don't take any of this too terribly seriously, i'm just throwing out ideas. again, i'm a (still learning) dev myself, so i totally understand that it's much easier said than done to implement such things.
i apologize if this ping was annoying. don't feel like you need to respond, especially if you have other things to do- i understand that you and the rest of the FR team are very busy people! thank you for everything that you do. i'm not sure if you guys hear this enough, but i want to say that rediscovering this wonderful website has genuinely changed my life for the better.
