The thing that frustrates me is that people submit those, routinely, and they are almost always, without fail, ignored.
I could pick out so many amazing, creative, and colorful accents each year that just never get picked beneath a cavalcade of light blue decals. Landscapes, auroras, pine forests, cultural decor for dragons living in a tundra - they never make it in. I have no problems with any of the winners, but I do wish staff would shake it up - it feels like Ice in particular, they have a really myopic vision for when they pick skins.
Just from this year, here's a couple of the ones that didn't get in.

Chilled Plumage by Phenri. Absolutely gorgeous snow-owl plumage with some silver jewelry to complete a chilly, elegant look.

Southern Lights by Xeron. An icefield aurora on a starry night. It's beautiful and it's colorful, which is something ice fest really tends to lack.

Chilled by Caecilius. Yes, this submission has ice on the dragon, but the theme of wearing animal pelts from Boreal Wood is just awesome and something I'd love to see more of.

Northern Lights by Exquisitor. Another really pretty aurora skin, this one with a nice tundra landscape at its base and some branches and snow anchoring it to the dragon.

Mountain Guides by Autopilot. An absolutely brilliant bit of work with a longneck guide partnered with a banescale - similar to the guides we met in Ice's BOTE.

Winter Songbirds by Sherushi. A really sweet (and very well-rendered skin) with a bunch of nonmigratory songbirds taking residence on a friendly gaoler.

Boreal Bonds by Maelstrym. Another gorgeous aurora skin - really, there were a lot of these and I'm saddened and surprised none made it in, but this one was a favorite for the clear, flowing colors and the translucency across the wings.

Aurora Catcher by CozyBlanket. Again. Really, really pretty auroral skin, this time with some boreal trees and a cozy cottage hidden in the dragon's recesses.

Maximum Security by Dragonfruiteen - I couldn't find a correctly sized preview image, but this one has a guardian warden carrying around some Fae and Veilspun prisoners. Which is such a cool use of the relative sizes (and I love the way the mace is carried in her mouth.)
A few people I've talked to have actually stopped submitting anything other than light blue 'ice on dragon' accents for ice fest because it feels defeatist to create anything else. That's not good.

It's a good thing i already chosen to be in another flight eventually. Ice feels far too neglected and i lost my interest in staying here.
Other festivals tend to have rather gorgeous and different ones every year, but as someone said above, it feels like ice has been kept in bland land with the same kinds of skins and accents. Marketing technique or not, it's kinda sad because some of the ones that don't get in don't print because they feel discouraged.
Glad i didn't get into making skins and accents. Saves me from disappointment tbh

I just got enough snow for the wings, and they are super pretty! I love them.

Thank you for pointing this out! That is pretty odd that Libra got a candid holding scales but ice got a maren (Water for a wind sign is odd too.... I forgot who but someone suggested a raptorik or harpy? That would have fit too)

I think it looks like a Maren. Maren are a very diverse group. Some seem to take inspiration from whales, whereas others have more fish-like tails.

My only complaint with the gala is we seriously didn’t need THREE gaoler skins. Imo with festivals there should be a max of two skins per breed. Like one male skin one female skin, I feel doing this right after the 19 skins gaolers got in the coli contest makes me even saltier.

There needs to be more tundra skins those are the main ice flight’s dragons. Yes I know howler is an ice ancient and I like that there’s skins of that breed but what about tundras? Probably the lack of tundra skins submitted which is sad. I won’t say anything else abt the flight since I’m not really in it. And please I beg of you guys not to be fatphobic to the familiar ty.
