First, I apologize for what I know will be a long post.
Second, I hope this comes of as constructive criticism and not like I am trying to bash on FR's artists. That is not what I want this to be as a fellow artist. I do love the idea of this new gene. The colors that are added are great and the design as False eyes is genius. However, I see some slight issues in the placement and positioning of some dragons.
What I would suggest for this new tert. gene and possible future ones is doing your best to avoid the "copy paste" look. Sometimes this can work really well, but on wings that have folds, overlaps, and different sized areas accessing how you can fit different sized spots in will help to create a more organic and natural look.
As an example I will use the male bog, then possibly talk about a few more dragons.
The sizes of the spots are identical, the placement or position on the wing is identical. This leaves a very sterile and machine made looks. Some breeds do have good size variation and a small amount of change from round to oblong eye spots, but it just looks like the shape was stretched and warped rather than drawn to be different. There is nothing wrong with them being all round or all oblong shapes, but the size difference is a key factor that is without a doubt missing. Also the floating spots on the shoulders just have a sticker appearance. If you look at a creature that has eye spots in nature they usually have variety in them. This helps to distract.
So something along this line is far more believable and plausible.
Now I know that this is merely a game and a game based around mythical creatures no less. Therefore it doesn't have to be realistic by any means, but the stickers and copy paste looks makes it seem like no thought was given.
I am not trying to say you don't care, clearly you do or you wouldn't work on the site, but the effort doesn't seem to be here as it is in other genes.
Another concern is comparing the wings of the guardian male/female and the Imperial male.
On the guardians the eye spots do have the mentioned size variation, but another plus they have is that the spots are hidden by the fold of the wings. This is critical in helping break up identical looking spots that some others have. Like the male Imp.
The male has large wing folds that seem to have been avoided as much as possible, why? This is a great opportunity to add variety and depth to the dragon. Another issue with the lack of size differences is that there seems to be a need to FILL the space as much as possible leaving some dragons with awkward and clunky looking wings. Such as the snappers.
As a personal opinion the best example of how this gene is used to the best extent it could be is on the Skydancers.
Not only do the sizes alternate, but the placements work beautifully with the wing shapes and the layering of the feather and skin sections. An A+ example of what I hope can be done to the other dragons possibly.
Again I apologize for the ridiculously long winded post, but I wanted to share what I thought despite how unpopular it may be.
Again Again I am not trying to bash on anyone or make anyone feel like they didn't do well enough in designing this gene. You did fantastic, this was a great idea. I just wanted to offer some words of opinion and assistance (which I know were not asked for, but I just love talking about art and I want to be helpful to things I love such as this site).
I love all you do even if I don't always agree, this site is still my number one and dragons will be fantastic forever and always no matter what.
