I have to agree with everyone complaining about this gene. I first thought it was simply a very boring concept - basically just a one up from iri/shim - but I had hope when I saw it
Turns out it looks pretty bad on most of the breeds/sexes. Or maybe not downright bad, but inconsistent to the coatls we were shown as previews. Especially the female guardians look so incomplete ?? Like, they have uge part of their wings jus being left completely untextured (the entire right wing and under the 'fold' in the left). There's only a weird gradient going on ...

It evens seem to miss most of the harsh highlights seen on the coatls ...
I just generally think this gene is underwhelming, and it doesn't meet my (admittedly very low) expectations ...

Oh I was really excited for Alloy! Metallic didn't really appeal to me a lot since I prefer actual patterns to metalic sheen, but the wings looked so shiny in the first preview I couldn't wait to see this gene released ^^.
After playing with it in the wardrobe, however, I noticed something that I really feel the need to point out: Alloy seems to have been made exclusively for coatls. Why is that? Well..

Here's an Antique/Cyan/Cyan coatl. Look at the incredible level of detail, each highlight on the wings look wonderfully made, specially with the different colors on specific spots.
Now, here's the exact same combo on a few different breeds:

The difference regarding detail and color scheme is massive, look at how flat the Snapper looks in comparison, or how the Fae's highlightings are almost completely absent. I even looked at Skydancers in case it was just a matter of a specific technique for feathered wings, but Alloy is just as underwhelmind there too... actually, even in breeds where Alloys looks better(nocturnes, bogsneaks, female imps), it doesn't get even close to the same level of refinement seen in Coatls. Heck if you pay attention at Alloy in Wildclaws you can see the strokes don't look refined at all:

So honestly, I can't help but think that the artist first drew this gene on a coatl, and after realizing how hard it was to work on so much detail they simply gave up and slacked on the other breeds. That's a bit disappointing since I was looking forward to seeing that level of detail on every breed, not just one.

The sloppyness is really visible on baby nocts just. wow. I didn't notice it on other species as much, even wildclaw doesn't look this sloppy..

I subscribe to all threads I start, no need to ping me
This is the first Dragon I put alloy on, and the only reason was because of the huge difference in the coloration of White between metallic and shimmer....

after reading the artistic critics though I can see that on the girl above the folded wing should really have a highlight on the top of it to match the metallic highlight on the body.
The second alloy I used on this guy and I couldn't be happier with how he looks...
