(This is paying homage to Chinese New Year celebrations with Lion dances: sometimes the Lions are offered lettuce/cabbage and fling scraps of it around the crowd. You should look up such performances on youtube, they’re fun!
The Chinese characters on the cabbage read “Gong Hei Fat Choy”, which is the traditional Chinese New Year greeting: it’s a congratulations and a wish for prosperity in one!)
