Frillshark May I be added to the pinglist? Sorry if I necroposted; those designs are soo cute. Would it be ok if I use some of the designs you did as reference for my own art?

No worries about necroing, I ...
might get back to this someday!
What do you mean by "referencing" for your own art? Since they've all sold, none of the designs are actually mine anymore; they belong to the people who purchased them, and they all may have different feelings about fanart or referencing .w.
If you mean referencing my art for like, technique and style, I'd advise against doing that; if you reference my art, you'd also end up referencing any mistakes I made, after all ^^;

I mean the design ideas in the lineart like flowers or ice cream drips instead of just doing normal blending. For example, I can do an ice cream design for an aquatic dragon instead of just normal fish scales and biolumecent scales everyone can think right away (and because i read wings of fire i know that idea is taken for seawings already). I usually run out of ideas on designing something pretty quickly. Thanks for the tip though, I'll be sure to not do any referencing on techniques.

OHHH If you mean like that, just taking general concepts or theme ideas for OCs, just go ahead lol, you don't need my permission since I don't own the concepts or themes ideas. I am so, so, SO far from the first person to have ever used ice cream drips or flowers on character designs like this; in the furry/adoptable community, those kinds of motifs are EXTREMELY common and there's no way I could even begin to lay a claim to owning them, let alone get angry at someone else for "copying" my idea.
Not to mention stuff like flowers and ice cream just ... exist in the real world; the idea of taking the aesthetic of flora or melting ice cream and putting it on cartoon animals probably was invented independently by several people over the years.
Similar with bioluminescence - I haven't read Wings of Fire, but I know for sure they are
far from the first story to make dragons bioluminescent and they will be far from the last, but they (probably) haven't copied anyone nor would anyone else making glowy dragons will inherently be copying them. Nobody has "taken" the concept of bioluminescence because real animals just are bioluminescent sometimes; even if you took inspiration from WoF for why you wanted to make a glowy dragon in the first place, the concept is so vague that so long as you don't just rip off their design completely, literally no reasonable person would accuse you of "taking" the idea.
For a specific example, the Deep Sea dragon from Dragon Cave predates WoF by about a decade, and they look completely different despite both being "bioluminescent dragons".
So long as you don't just take a design I (or anyone else) made 1:1 and call it yours, using general, extremely vague theme ideas like "ice cream" or "flowers" or "bioluminescent" is, like, 100% ok. Like, maybe don't just make a black bird with a white underbelly topped with pastel pink ice cream drips and rainbow sprinkles
exactly like
Buttercream, but you could make something like, a white dog with blue polka dots and orange sherbert drips and I wouldn't even begin to think "omg they copied me" because of the ice cream drips. ^^;
